How much effort do you make for the school run?

WhatsYourFlex · 15/05/2026 23:21

How ready do you get to do the school run? Assuming you are going back home afterwards (I WFH).

As in which of the following do you do?

Shower
Dress in something better than leggings
Hair
Make up
etc

I tend to be quite minimal - I’m always dressed in proper clean clothes (not PJs!) but beyond that I don't make much effort.

As long as everything’s covered, I’m good 😁

Abatyterntin · 15/05/2026 23:27

I don't shower in the morning as it takes too long and if I'm working from home or not at work, I live in leggings!

I do brush and straighten my hair - usually tie half of it up as its quite long. I also wear basic make up as due to my age, I look half dead without it these days. (Sometimes I dont bother though!)

Our school is a rural village primary and most people are very casual. On work days I'm smartly dressed for the office and its unusual tbh.

FTMaz · 15/05/2026 23:28

Absolutely 0 effort. The only thing I always do is put spf on my face. The rest depends on how the morning has gone.

KeeleyJ · 15/05/2026 23:30

Past that stage now but on work days, I was showered, dressed in office suitable clothes and smelling pretty good! On non work days, it was all I could do to brush my hair and throw on some jeans, there was a few times when we slept in I had nothing but jeans, trainers and a big coat on 😳.

Itsahardknocklifeforus · 15/05/2026 23:30

None!

I drive to the school drop off area. DC exits the car. I drive off.

I sometimes stop at a local coffee shop on my way home and the people going out to work look very very different to the rest of us!

JW13 · 15/05/2026 23:33

I work in the office 3/4 days a week and do make up every day I’m in and wash my hair at least 3 days I’m in the office. On my WFH day(s) I do very little and try to give my hair/face a rest other than moisturiser and maybe a tinted moisturiser if I look tired/have a lot of calls. I live in leggings and a plain jumper for calls so that’s what I’m wearing for the school run. I’ve stopped caring about people seeing me bare faced now and I need the time to maximise work in the day!

NerrSnerr · 15/05/2026 23:38

I wear exactly what I would wear for the day anyway for the school run. Some days gym clothes, some days nurses uniform, some days jeans and a top, some days smart casual workwear,

Why would you make more of an effort for the school run, who are you making the effort for?

ChaosIsMyNorm · 15/05/2026 23:39

Zero. No make up, good chance no bra, leggings and wont have brushed my hair either(its wavy so would look awful if I did). Same goes for work too, although more likely to have a tshirt with a slogan or tv character on if im WFH.

DoYouLikeYourNaneFred · 15/05/2026 23:46

Shower
Clean clothes (leggings, shorts, jeans) depending on the weather/my mood. & t shirt. Jumper Coat depending on weather.

Clean teeth
Hair brushed (thankfully long & straight, no fuss)
Spray of my favourite light perfume

sketchers.

Clean & presentable, but in no way 'made up'

but I don't wear makeup at all.

Earwigoagain · 15/05/2026 23:48

Shower, brush teeth, put on moisturiser, get dressed, brush hair, that's it. Very low maintenance!

aWeeCornishPastie · 15/05/2026 23:50

Jacket over my jammy bottoms or joggys and any comfy footwear to hand . Hair in a bun sunglasses on, jobs a good un! Am literally driving not getting out of the car as my kids are older. Back home park car in car park and into house

Hessu · 16/05/2026 00:15

I wfh pt, don't go to an office so I never dress smartly. I shower the night before, brush and tie up hair, cleanse and moisturise, apply sunscreen and do a 5 min makeup routine. That's my general 'getting ready for the day' effort for every day and I don't make less or more effort for the school run. I wear jeans and a top almost every day, and only wear leggings for exercise (if I am going to the gym I'd wear leggings under jeans to go to the gym then take my jeans off at the gym).

I think the point of the thread is that people make less of an effort, not more.

me, the sane effort as I made for any day. Make up, hair done,,proper clothes on. But that’s not a moral usher? It’s just how I start every day.

mumbleleaf · 16/05/2026 07:11

I try and put my clothes on and wash my face/skin (just serum and moisturizer) the moment I wake up, helps the morning go smoothly. So then by the time we're leaving I just need to brush my hair and put a little blush on my cheeks.

I wear gym clothes everyday because it takes very little thought, I do go straight to the gym 3 out of the 5 week days so I don't feel like too much of a fraud! And always, always earrings.

OutandAboutMum1821 · 16/05/2026 07:15

I always wear my usual make up, hair done, jewellery, perfume and either a dress and tights, leggings & a nice top/jumper or occasionally jeans. If staying for governor duties I wear a dress or smarter trousers & top.

Yesyouneedtogotohospital · 16/05/2026 07:17

If I’m working then full hair/clothes/moderate makeup. If not working, brush hair, wash face, clean teeth, leggings, wellies and two dogs. I love winter because I can throw a big coat on and cover everything up.

Always earrings! I have gold huggies that I sleep in so I don’t have to faff with them in the mornings if I don’t have time to change them. I’d feel naked without earrings.

Chocolattcoffeecup · 16/05/2026 07:22

I always shower at night and but wash my face and armpits in the morning. Brush teeth. Brush hair. I get dressed in proper clothes such as jeans even if I plan to change into jogging bottoms or leggings when I get back home to work from home. I wear some concealer and mascara and sometimes cream blusher. Perfume.

dairydebris · 16/05/2026 07:24

I put on a bra and change out of lounge wear but that's it.

Heraldry · 16/05/2026 07:28

Depending on if I’ve had hot flushes or not in the night I’ll have a shower (I have a bath every night before bed), I get dressed for the day (jeans, a skirt, or yoga teaching clothes), brush my hair, deodorant and perfume. I don’t wear make up.

TheGirlWhoLived · 16/05/2026 07:30

3 of the days I wear normal jeans and t shirt, hair tidily tied up or down if washed and looks nice, I wouldn’t go out of it was really scraggy or greasy- bit of concealer if skin looks ropey!

2 of the days I go straight to work so smart casual workwear, full face of make up and hair shiny and glossy

holjam · 16/05/2026 07:46

Depends. On the mornings I’m heading to the office after dropping I’m properly done - hair, make up, trousers/shirt/cardigan/blazer etc.
On my 2 wfh mornings I’mostly in leggings and a sweater, no make up and hair tied up. I will always wear earrings and jewellery though as it makes me feel more put together.

sanityisamyth · 16/05/2026 07:59

None. Why would I need to? I brush my teeth and get dressed, checking it hasn’t got food spilled down the front. I don’t even bother brushing my hair.

MyDuvetDay · 16/05/2026 08:03

I am a complete slob on the school run - but I drive and don’t even leave the car so no one sees me.

PRPrincess · 16/05/2026 08:06

Same as any other day. Showered, hair blow dried, makeup, jeans/blouse or whatever I feel like. I’d never turn up anywhere any other way.
