How much effort do you make for the school run?

WhatsYourFlex · 15/05/2026 23:21

How ready do you get to do the school run? Assuming you are going back home afterwards (I WFH).

As in which of the following do you do?

Shower
Dress in something better than leggings
Hair
Make up
etc

I tend to be quite minimal - I’m always dressed in proper clean clothes (not PJs!) but beyond that I don't make much effort.

As a dad who does all the nursery runs and wfhs full time my go to is jeans, plaid shirt and my natural slightly scruffy look!

I generally don’t think there needs to be much effort made by either sex for it… and if there is, who are you trying to impress? There’s no need to be an Amanda about it and project a ‘Soha’ lifestyle.

I just always dress for the day. It’s part of getting ready for me. Not trying to impress anyone but myself. I’m casual but done. Pjs outside is not my thing

TheKittenswithMittens · 16/05/2026 21:57

So long as you don't block my drive, I don't mind what you are wearing.

Pyjamatimenow · 16/05/2026 22:05

Shower, wash hair crown, blow dry/ smooth/ straighten hair, and put clothes on ( work clothes most days but sometimes leggings and sweatshirt if some type). I try and get makeup on but often don’t get that far so will put sunglasses on if I can find some. I hate mornings

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 16/05/2026 22:12

I head straight to the gym three mornings so leggings, gym top and sweatshirt or fleece with optional rain coat and trainers. Always showered with hair tied up and skincare/lip balm.

Other days whatever I’m wearing for the day so dress / jeans and a blouse or T-shirt / jumpsuit / skirt and T-shirt etc. Showered, hair blow dried and simple make up on.

Typtoe · 16/05/2026 22:16

Same as any other day. Shower, makeup, hair. Only difference will be what I wear on days I work vs days I don't. I like my morning routine. But I don't tend to pay any attention to what the other parents look like aside from the very rare occasion somebody turns up in their pyjamas.

AppleTheStoolasMom · 16/05/2026 23:28

Shower, hair wash (it’s long) and dyson dry, make up - I make the effort daily, whether in or out and I make the effort for me, I like being well turned out.
Sometimes twice if it’s a gym day.

Appleandcidergravy · 17/05/2026 07:07

Mostly in workout gear- having showered, teeth done etc. On the day that I do school run I go to the gym straight after walking to drop her off!!! It also means when my 5 year old legs it I can catch her up easier

I go straight to work from the drop off so I do make an effort but on the days that I’m off I just make sure I’m clean, have clean clothes on maybe a bit of makeup if I feel like it and brush/style my hair. Doesn’t take me long

MouseCheese87 · 17/05/2026 10:32

I do all those things but dress casual. It's not about the school run, just getting ready for the day. I'm a sahm but I still go out and do things and I'm busy during the day.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 17/05/2026 10:50

I’d stamp the crap off my wellies and pick the worst bits of straw out of my hair. Need to look presentable at all times ready for the school gate judging 🤣 No fucks to give on this one. “Light spray of perfume” 🤣🤣🤣

Face wash hair brushed, teeth brushed, presentable clothing,, make up just so I dont look like im dying from the plague

Unicornsandprincesses · 17/05/2026 12:04

Quick shower or flannel wash if I had a shower night before. I def can’t leave the house without having a wash.

I throw on jeans, tshirt, jumper, trainers + coat if needed. But nothing fanicer.

Hair gets scraped into a bun. I don’t bother with makeup.

Dreamingofdisneypt2 · 17/05/2026 12:05

I work in the school so get showered and dressed for the day I don’t do make up at all even on weekends. I’d say it’s a mixed lot at our school there are some very smartly dressed parents then there are the ones that seem to live in gym clothes but likely don’t go to the gym then there are the ones that are SAHMs in their jeans then there are a minority that look like they’ve rolled out of bed and barely made drop off. Each to their own I say as ling as the kids are at school presentable that’s the main thing!

IWouldBeATerribleMayor · 17/05/2026 12:09

I am one of those people who is naturally quite scruffy, sadly. So I do make an effort only in order to make me fit for public consumption.

Always shower, makeup, clothes that match and are presentable (and clean).

I'd love to be a different sort of person- effortlessly chic. But I'm not, so I have to put in a fair old amount of effort just to look passable IMO.

mondaytosunday · 17/05/2026 12:19

Shower get dressed in whatever I’m wearing that day. I don’t do a school run anymore but twice a week we had each class coffee mornings so I might put a smidge of makeup on for that, otherwise no.

lottlecat · 17/05/2026 12:50

I shower every morning then give my hair a blast with the hairdryer and get dressed. I’m not sure what’s wrong with leggings? My wardrobe is a mix of leggings, jeans and skirts. I wear whatever i fancy on the day. I don’t differentiate between school run and non school run though. I just get ready for each day the same regardless of what I’m doing.

I get showered and dressed for work not the school run, regardless of whether I'm in the office or WFH I would do my hair, put a little bit of make up on and put proper clothes on not just leggings or PJs. I have teams meetings for work and need to be properly dressed

TheCurious0range · 17/05/2026 13:35

Mclaren10 · 16/05/2026 19:38

I brush my hair.
That's it.

You don't wash or brush your teeth?

alizee21g · 17/05/2026 20:57

I rarely do morning school run (I don't drive so my partner does drop off on his way to work) but when I do I usually walk the dog on the way home or run back so it's either running gear or leggings, hoodie and trainers. I shower and wash my hair on the evening so in the morning I wash my face, teeth, spf min make up (a bit of concealer, touch of mascara and eyebrows - I plucked most of them in the 90s so I rarely leave the house without getting them done😅). I work from home most days x

TotalBaloney · 17/05/2026 21:02

I go straight to work from the school run so shower, hair and make up done and smart casual clothes.

Imalittleelf · 18/05/2026 07:56

Shower, wash and dry hair, put on makeup and put on clothes suitable for school and working from home (comfy trousers and a tshirt or dress and leggings)

I dont feel ready if I havent fully got myself together in the morning.

I am up by 6.30 though

Phoenixfire1988 · 18/05/2026 08:04
