How much effort do you make for the school run?

WhatsYourFlex · 15/05/2026 23:21

How ready do you get to do the school run? Assuming you are going back home afterwards (I WFH).

As in which of the following do you do?

Shower
Dress in something better than leggings
Hair
Make up
etc

I tend to be quite minimal - I’m always dressed in proper clean clothes (not PJs!) but beyond that I don't make much effort.

None. It's a school run not a fashion show.

Kitchenbattle · 16/05/2026 16:20

Well if I’m doing the school run and then going home, sometimes I’m still in my jammies…but I don’t get out the car on the school run

Noodles1234 · 16/05/2026 16:45

If wfh or off work I resemble stig of the dump.
if off to work smart.

so no the yummy mummy’s are not interested in me, but the nice Mums are so win win !

Greenwriter76 · 16/05/2026 16:48

Minimal effort - skin care (inc spf) and clean teeth (I shower later in day), curly hair so sometimes up, sometimes down which takes a bit more effort to look presentable (water spritz and serum / mousse) and whatever I’m wearing that day, be it work (never super formal anyway) or something comfy. Rarely make up.
I walk almost 2 miles there and back, which is a good start to the day, and then I just want to get on with the rest of the day.

But surely there is a happy medium. Going out in leggings or pyjamas, without a bra, hair not brushed - that’s all pretty grim.

I look as I do every day: shower, hair washed and and styled, makeup and clean stylish clothes. With a bra. It doesn’t take long and I feel and look good. Why wouldn’t you?

CellophaneFlower · 16/05/2026 17:36

If I walk to school I wear what I'd wear to go anywhere, which is generally nice jeans and tshirt, sometimes a blouse, nice jacket. Hair is always washed, foundation and blush. If it's sunny, sunglasses, but if not, a little eyeliner and mascara, otherwise I look 10 years older. Not trying to impress anybody at all, I like nice clothes and feel good when I wear them.

However, we mostly cycle now, so I'm having to wear leggings as all my jeans are wide legged so get caught in my wheel or bottle holder 🫣 I hate it as not my style at all but preferable to jamming my wheel and flying over the handlebar I guess!

I don't understand putting leggings and pyjamas together?

Pyjamas, you're not dressed.

Leggings are my go-to summer work uniform; I'm not sure why I wouldn't wear those to school pick-up?

BeaRightThere · 16/05/2026 17:57

Leggings, oversized top and coat. I am a SAHM so after I drop the kids off I usually do some exercise. When picking up the kids I'm dressed in whatever I felt like wearing that day.

Abouteffingtime · 16/05/2026 18:00

None at all. Some mornings Im headibg to the office so will be wearing a dress, make up, hair done. Others Im wfh and will be in running gear.

Didimum · 16/05/2026 18:01

Throw my clothes on. That’s it.

What’s the issue with leggings or bra-less?

AquaShark · 16/05/2026 19:30

I would be dressed for work (fitness instructor so leggings, sweater or tshirt). Normally shower at night rather than morning. No make up.

I walk DD to school, if I’m going to the office then I’ll be showered and properly dressed. If I’m not going to the office I may or may not shower and usually in a sweatshirt and leggings, or jeans and a t shirt. Some mums always seem so glamorous and styled, I’m a bit jealous!

RollOnSunshine · 16/05/2026 19:33

I brush me teeth and put at least half presentable clothing on.
No time for a shower in the morning with the demands that I get left right and centre.

I don't wear make up on days that I am at home. I don't need to. I have dark eyelashes, dark eyebrows and decent skin.

Mclaren10 · 16/05/2026 19:38

I brush my hair.
That's it.

PRPrincess · 16/05/2026 08:06

Same as any other day. Showered, hair blow dried, makeup, jeans/blouse or whatever I feel like. I’d never turn up anywhere any other way.

Exact same! It’s basically my routine. I just do that everyday regardless of plans.

Wildrose83 · 16/05/2026 20:13

I moved to a really nice area a few years ago. Most of the women are slim and fit and take care of their appearance. It encouraged me to up my game and to be honest I feel better for it! Hair washed every other day, natural make up, earrings and normally casual outfit (either activewear or jeans and a nice jumper). I would have to be ill to not make an effort. I look back at my thirties and I lost myself a bit to motherhood a bit, well and truly got my mojo back in my 40’s :)

TommorrowsToday · 16/05/2026 20:23

I have the same routine irrespective of where I'm going... school run, office, wherever.

Shower and wash hair.
Mostly dry hair.
SPF, tinted moisturiser, cream blush, under eye concealer, mascara, lip balm.
Smart/casual outfit.
Trainers.

I rarely deviate.

WarrenHouse · 16/05/2026 21:15

As close to zero as poss!

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 16/05/2026 21:19

Fully ready

Shower, hair, make up, proper clothes, perfume

maybethisway · 16/05/2026 21:41

I don’t wear my pyjamas. I’ve sometimes had a shower.

Didimum · 16/05/2026 18:02

Or not brushing your hair? My hair is a disaster if I brush it. The only in time I do is when I’m about to step into the shower.

changedglasscat · 16/05/2026 21:46

I do all of the things you list, nothing special but if I’m leaving the house then I do want to look like I have it together!

landlordhell · 16/05/2026 21:49

Not necessarily shower in morning as sometimes do at night. ALWAYS hair brushed, skincare done and minimal makeup . I find a good coat/ jacket over what I’m wearing is a lifesaver as are a nice pair of shades. Been told I look glam but really it’s a mac and shades over a jumper and jeans.
