Too white for a wedding?

KookyOliveSwan · 15/05/2026 15:10

I have 4 weddings to go to this summer, so I’m looking for a dress that I can wear to all of them.
I’ve fallen in love with this one, but is it too white/cream: https://www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/product/zimmermann/dresses/midi-dresses/floral-print-lace-paneled-cotton-voile-midi-dress/46376663162888639

I wouldn’t choose white or cream accessories, and for the church wedding I’d wear a sage coloured jacket with it.

It definitely isn’t bridal, but is it still too white?

@PhaedraTwo People on mn have no taste in many cases and no fashion sense. You have realised Hobbs and Phase 8 are preferred to Zimmerman so you are conversing with people who only look at high street clothes and have very narrow tastes. Of course go for something better. Avoid the bolero and blazer look so often recommended on here.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 18/05/2026 15:28

It’s not cream! It’s floral. I’m not a huge fan of putting a floral cardi with it but a cropped modern jacket is spot on this year. Red Magazine have great suggestions for wedding guest dresses.

I love the cream one with pink flowers (I definitely have a specific style), sadly I think it probably poses the same issue.

I’ve got a couple of months to look though so I’ll keep an eye on vinted to see what comes up.

Erdem was a great suggestion, I love this one https://www.vinted.co.uk/items/8287235365-erdem-floral-silk-dress-vintage?referrer=catalog but I fear it might still be too much white! I really wish I looked good in dark or bright colours.

Funnily enough, I was going to link that one too as the print is beautiful. But I googled the image (as I always do with Vinted photos!). It's an Anneli dress, which is a basic shift dress style - so I thought it wasn't quite contemporary enough? Couldn't find a link to it in that fabric, but this is that particular dress in another print.

As for the first ERDEM dress - it's gorgeous, go for it! You can be "that" woman - the one who shocks brides & wedding guests around Britain through her inappropriate choice of pale floral dresses ...

I rather liked this Ulla Johnson one ... though I shouldn't suggest anything pale in case there's another flurry of fainting fits!!!

For me it's more sunshine holiday than wedding.

caringcarer · 18/05/2026 15:57

It's not a white dress but cream/floral and if you wear a sage green jacket it should be fine. It's expensive but as you've lost weight and graduated you deserve to treat yourself. Well done on your graduation.

I'd be really shocked to see a guest in that at a wedding and I think this thread shows that a lot of people would be the same. If I was the bride, it's not that I'd feel upstaged but I'd be disappointed that my guest had so little insight that she'd wear something that drew attention to herself and that would make most of my guests think she was disrespecting me/the day. Literally just wear any other colour - it isn't hard at all.

Is this a serious post? 😂

I definitely don't think that is too much white Op because the green is really deep and strong. Its also more the pattern that is white, rather than looking like a "white dress with colours on it."

But I still think the other is probably ok colour-wise, on balance. ETA especially if you do have a sage jacket.

JellyBeanz77 · 18/05/2026 16:16

Awful. Sorry OP, but I wouldn’t spend £6.05 on this never mind £605. Looks like an old ladies nightie.

winnieanddaisy · 18/05/2026 16:17

It’s a gorgeous dress and, yes you should wear it . When my DD got married she had 4 little bridesmaids all aged ten and under all in white dresses as chosen by the bride.
Her only adult bridesmaid was her 24 year old cousin who also had a white fishtail dress on as chosen between them . DD wore a princess style wedding dress and no one mistook her cousin as the bride . If I remember correctly Pippa Middleton wore a white dress to Catherine and Williams wedding and there again nobody mistook her for the bride either .
I really don’t know why people are so uptight by guests dressed in pale colours.

Though not a great example. Although no-one confused her with the bride, if I remember correctly, Pippa's Bottom was the talk of the Royal wedding and definitely stole the show!

The key there is that was agreed by the bride.

And Catherine wore a yellow so pale it looks white to Meghan and Harry's. Again to no apparent consternation at all.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 18/05/2026 16:28

Poppa M was the Maid of honour! She wore what Catherine wanted!

Well actually I think that did get comments - along with the claim that Camilla wore white to Diana's wedding.

But I assume - at least in the Kate/Meghan instance - this would all have been coordinated and approved, especially as Kate played a role in managing the little attendants so was very much on view with the arrival of the bridal party.

Epidote · 18/05/2026 18:06

SingedSoul · 15/05/2026 16:31

It will definitely be too white for at least one of them.

Correct

If it got comments they would have been from the sort of people on here who don’t know the difference between a wedding gown and a summer frock, constantly point people at evening wear and polyester monstrosities for all wedding threads, shiny supermarket black skirts for interview threads and think you can stick a blazer over anything. Oh and if not a blazer a bolero or a pashmina. What the lemon suit example does demonstrate is that there isn’t a rule in polite society about not wearing anything that potentially might look nearly white.

This is the reply I was looking for. Horrible dress and utterly ridiculous price. If you have £600 to spend on a wedding guest dress then pick something else OP

So rude, and just wrong. You obviously don’t know clothes, so 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm genuinely curious though - what kind of dress do you think is utterly gorgeous, & that you would love to wear to a wedding?

I can understand why you & some others might not like the dress, even if I don't agree - we all have different taste. And I can understand why some people think it's far too much money to spend on a dress. But I really don't get how you can think it's ugly? At most I would have thought a bit pale/understated, if you like vibrant patterned things - but horrible & ugly? 🤷‍♀️

I just don’t like the dress. I don’t like the colour, I don’t like that it’s ankle length and I don’t like the style of it. I also don’t think it’s appropriate for a wedding🤷‍♀️

Ok, fine - but you could have just said you don't like the dress & don't think it's appropriate (though I don't get that either, & that's not what she asked). But to say it's horrible & ugly is completely unnecessary?
