What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe that you bought and still wear?

I’ve 50s/60s things from my mum and aunt and a few vintage-y bits but the oldest item I bought myself is a 501 denim jacket from 1995.

Also nice/quirky shoes from the early 2000s that occasionally come out including Jimmy Choos from 2002.

What do you have, that you bought for yourself, that still gets an outing? (I’m 53)

T shirt from around 1993

BreakfastOfWaffles · 09/05/2026 05:48

I am early fifties and still wear the leather jacket my dad bought me for my 21st birthday.

YoullWishYourLifeAway · 09/05/2026 07:14

Early 50’s and I have a smart winter coat that I wear to winter nights out/funerals that is 25+ years old

mamaduckbone · 09/05/2026 07:35

I also have a denim jacket (Wrangler!!) that I must have bought in 1997 at the latest which I still wear. I have a camel coat of my mum’s from the 70s.

A black cardigan from Debenhams and a Sorbonne hoodie from Paris, both 1996-1997

Sgtmajormummy · 09/05/2026 08:10

Married 30 years and I still regularly wear clothes I bought when I was single.
2 wool coats
several jumpers
winter pjs
white shirts
Breton striped T-shirt
LBD.
I also have a funeral outfit (smart charcoal skirt and jacket, just update the top) that’s 26 yo and getting more use nowadays, unfortunately.

I have a dress I bought in 1994 which I still wear quite a bit.

Flomingho · 09/05/2026 08:25

Levi denim jacket which I bought at 17, it's now 30 years old and my daughter wears it.

MorphingintoMargo · 09/05/2026 08:27

A leather jacket I bought on honeymoon. It’s nearly 40 years old and still looks good. Its was altered (sleeves shortened) in the shop to fit me perfectly. A bit tight now 😬, but I can just about do it up. I think it was about £80, which was a lot of money in those days, but it does look expensive.

A St. Michael summer cotton dressing gown .
Most M & S clothing was branded as St.Michael in the 80s , and I'm sure this one was around mid to late , so 40 years old .

dudsville · 09/05/2026 08:52

I love this, but I'm the opposite. I changed styles a lot until recently and I don't keep things not in use. Reading your posts reminded me of things I treasured in the past!

muddyford · 09/05/2026 08:53

Grey cashmere trousers bought in 2003. Good for winter funerals and weddings.

StormGazing · 09/05/2026 09:39

My husband has loads of tee shirts / hoodies etc from his sport he’s been doing since the late 1980’s … he wore a sweatshirt this week with the 1992 competition on it … he never throws anything away lol! My oldest is probably my wedding dress, not that I wear it lol but it’s 21 years old this year

EllaPaella · 09/05/2026 12:01

My skiing gear. Same ski pants and thermal layers since 2006!
Aside from that it’s my Allsaints Cargo leather jacket which is 10 years old. I haven’t kept anything older than that.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/05/2026 12:42

Until 5 years ago I had things from the late 90s/early 2000s that I loved and still wore, my weight has ballooned since then and I do feel sad thinking about the things I eventually passed on :( Even my leather biker ugg boots from 2009 finally fell apart this year.

Redkatagain · 09/05/2026 12:54

A woolly item from my days in the brownies.

I’m 49

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 09/05/2026 12:57

A beautiful black Bardot neckline prom style dress from Pronuptia bought in 1990. I still wear it for posh dos with a big net petticoat underneath and it gets lots of compliments.

Gettingbysomehow · 09/05/2026 13:01

Nothing. Ive been fat all my life and now thanks to weight loss injections Im a size 10. Even my old shoes dont fit.

maftan · 09/05/2026 13:06

I've culled a lot of stuff over the years, but one thing I still have from nearly 20 years ago is a little faux fur bolero jacket. I keep it for Winter weddings, which is why I got it in the first place. Still waiting for an invite to another Winter wedding 😊

TT4eva82 · 09/05/2026 13:06

I’ve got a Denim jacket from Topshop that I got for my 18th birthday, I’m 44.
Also a Deisel cotton vest top and a Levi’s halter neck that I wear every summer, both 20+ years old.

SixSevenShutUp · 09/05/2026 13:07

A black net skirt that I wore clubbing in the early 2000s. I could just about squeeze into it for an 80s revival look recently.

whatisforteamum · 09/05/2026 13:10

Dressing gown I bought in house of Fraser.
Must be 15 yrs old looks brand new and so cosy.

Paetina · 09/05/2026 14:47

My size and taste has changed a lot so not much is older than 10 years. I have 3 knitted hats from c1997 (so about 30 years old) bought off a Japanese market stall holder in East London - never seen similar style for sale and still my go to for winter headgear.

merryhouse · 09/05/2026 16:04

a denim jacket I bought in 1986, from a rummage sale so could be late 70s

Seniie · 09/05/2026 16:06

Currently wearing a black halter neck top which I bought before going to uni in 1991.
