What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe that you bought and still wear?

I’ve 50s/60s things from my mum and aunt and a few vintage-y bits but the oldest item I bought myself is a 501 denim jacket from 1995.

Also nice/quirky shoes from the early 2000s that occasionally come out including Jimmy Choos from 2002.

What do you have, that you bought for yourself, that still gets an outing? (I’m 53)

I have a denim jacket that is around 32 years old that I still wear occasionally.
I also have a dressing gown that is around the same age that I wear every day.

A Next tailored black 100% wool shift dress from 1995. Amazing how the quality of clothing has declined. Unfortunately this usually comes out for funerals these days…
A beautiful camel coat from 2005.

Beautiful black and gold velvet monsoon coat. Bought around 1988. Love it still 😀

I gave birth to all 3 of my children wearing the same tshirt it’s black and says this bump rocks I can’t get rid of it but probably won’t wear it again so it’s 20 years old.

University sweatshirt I bought in 1998, and a brushed cotton dressing gown that was probably bought the same year.

They are so soft and warm, although the sweatshirt is now mostly for hiking/ gardening etc.

An Aran style
cardigan from marks ( has the st Michael label) from 1994. I kept it at work
very cold days/ boiler issues. Took joy in telling apprentices that it was older than them! I still have it . Can’t bear to
part with it as it lasted to the beginning and end of my second career.

I have a few things in my wardrobe from the 80s. I'm not wearing any of them at the moment. They are 3 jackets for very formal occasions I'd wear over evening dresses. I anticipate I will wear them again, so I'm keeping them. I have a few scarves/wraps/shawls that are from the 90s, they are worn several times a year. I have 3 1990s blazers (all of them are mid 90s when we called them jackets as blazer was only used to describe a specific style involving gold buttons then). They are a camel wool blazer that I wear every autumn and I bought in December 1995 in Oxford at ProMod, a russet red/orange that I have a photo of me wearing in 1995 and a Monsoon pink linen blazer that was part of a separates (we now call the co ords) outfit I wore to a wedding in 1996, I don't have the crepe scarf and skirt that went with it now. I wear all of these.

The camel blazer is usually worn with a Scottish broach that belonged to my mother that's probably going to look very contemporary this autumn with the tartan kilts making a comeback.

I have costume jewellery that my mother wore in the 70s and leather driving gloves that she wore around the same time.

A Jaeger dress that I'd date to the mid-sixties. I bought it vintage, I'm not still wearing clothes from when I was ten! A pair of Russell & Bromley ankle boots, circa 1999. I faffed about buying them as they were expensive, but they've really proved their worth.

I'm heavy on my clothes and usually wear them until they start falling apart. The expensive clothes I've owned lasted longer than the cheap ones (usually) but I don't think I have any older than about 10 yrs.

Limited edition Eat Static long sleeved top and Ozrics t shirt. Both well over 30 years old and slowly disintegrating, much like me tbh

The oldest item is a Swatch watch, bought for my first summer job money. Spent everything I earned on this watch :-) I still wear it sometimes.

Another item I have bought myself is my embossed DM boots, bought at 18 for pocket money and still going strong. I’m 48.

A bit newer, a Hermès scarf, Cave Felem from 1998.

I have two wool coats from 1980s and 1970s one was given to me by a family member and the other one was a find on Vinted. Both are still as new and I take good care of them, just got them back from dry cleaners ready for the season.

The 1970s coat is made of “Danish tweed” from a company that must have gone bankrupt in the 1990, during the first production exodus to Asia. It was made in Sweden and that company still exists and even has a website although seems to be only B2B and very limited capacity.

Tan clutch of my mum’s from the late 60s/early 70s.
My Bayswater is 16 years old, used regularly and still looks amazing.
I kept a load of band t-shirts/Emily the Strange shirts and a pair of very wide jeans from 2002 that DD now wears as ‘vintage’

A brown leather trench coat from Stanley market in HK around 21years ago. And a grey silk Laura Ashley midi shirt with a matching velvet frill around the bottom. Maybe 30 years old.

I have an item of clothing that my mother gave me. She was given it new by her mother when she went away to college and she gave to me to wear to for late Queen's silver jubilee in 1977. I am mid-sixties so the item is probably around 70 years old. I don't really wear it any more but did when I was younger and it is still in my wardrobe. I also still have a Burberry skirt that she bought for me when I first started work in 1979.
