Are we now into summer clothes season? Have you done your wardrobe swap?

It’s gorgeous and sunnny here. I just did my wardrobe swap. A pretty unexciting affair which involves moving tweed, velvet and roll necks out and short sleeve blouses, shorts and sundresses in. Apologies if this brings on a spell of unexpected dreadful weather.

Are people out and about in summer clothes where you are? Cambridge yesterday was a weird mix of barn jackets, beanies, shorts and sandals.

I’m meeting a friend for lunch in Central London today and really want to dig out the off white silk/linen trousers I’ve been yearning to wear (with a light navy knit) but am still a bit traumatised by going to Westfield last early summer in a pastel shirt dress and truly not understanding how every other man, woman and child knew still to wear jeans.

What are we thinking?

I have quite a few summer clothes. I love wearing summer dresses and sandals. At home I wear shorts and sleeveless tops. I also have a couple of summer skirts.

I find jeans far too hot in hot weather.

For in between weather I have linen mix trousers, and cargo pants. I also have some cropped chinos.

EllaPaella · 30/04/2026 22:32

Sunny but still a very chilly wind up here in the NE so I haven’t worn anything particularly sunny yet. My summer clothes will come ban out once it’s warm enough to wear sandals so probably the end of May to early June (I hope!). I much prefer summer dressing so can’t wait for it to warm up a bit.

EllaPaella · 30/04/2026 22:34

Although I did buy some nice summery bits last weekend. Two lovely staple short sleeve tops from Levi’s, some off white cropped wide leg jeans, a lovely pink toned check shirt and a deep pink quilted jacket from FreePeople. So bring on the warm weather so I can wear my new gear!

TheChosenTwo · 30/04/2026 22:40

I don’t do a wardrobe switch out, it all lives in my wardrobe and drawers. I do have a small case that holds my ‘only sunny hot holiday clothes’, mostly dresses and beachy stuff I’d never wear here no matter the weather.
But my dresses get worn year round, either layered up with thermals underneath and cardi/jumper etc over the top or without layers. Jeans and other trousers are fine all year round too. I don’t consider the weather nice enough to go bare legs or short sleeves until it’s about 30 degrees anyway so it’s rarely what I would consider ‘warm’ - I wear thermals or at least a vest most of the year round 😂

RampantIvy · 30/04/2026 23:09

My summer dresses are very definitely for summer weather and even with layers are not suitable for Pennine winters. Besides, none of them go with any of my winter jumpers

LoveBeingAMum555 · 01/05/2026 06:00

I am so envious of people who are in lighter layers already, I feel the cold terribly so I choose clothes on the basis that I have to be able to get thermals underneath and a layer on top too. I live up North too.

So summer clothes are unlikely to make an appearance for me until about June!

willowstar · 01/05/2026 06:13

Partially swapped. I have a small wardrobe and use boxes under the bed as well. It will be 26 degrees here in Norfolk today so really looking forward to later when I can get outside after work. But cold again at the weekend.

HoldMyWine · 01/05/2026 07:04

It’s still a bit too cold yet. I’ve put the heavy winter jumpers in the spare room and am wearing a new tshirt, albeit with a cardigan over the top. Spring is cooler this year than last as my photo memories show me wearing shorts on the beach this time last year.

Robocopper · 17/05/2026 15:43

Am reading this in mid May and wonder how many of us got caught out changing wardrobes so early? 🤣 I’m still having days when I wear all of big coat, sunglasses, umbrella and sp50 on the same day! Roll on consistent weather days!

HoldMyWine · 17/05/2026 15:54

Yes I went too soon and am bloody freezing every day. I don’t think I’ll bother buying any new summer clothes not worth it for 12 weeks of wear.

henlake7 · 17/05/2026 16:07

Ive just finished my swap over today. Mainly skirts, coats and dresses though, I like to have jumpers, cardies and thermals available most of the year!

I was thinking this too…..which means there will probably be good sales at the end of the season to shift all the unbought spring/summer stuff! 🤞😁

I switched over my summer/winter stuff a couple of weeks ago. Still yet to wear any form of sandal…..

muddyford · 17/05/2026 16:35

I usually swap the first week of May. But we've had frosts this last week so glad I didn't.

RampantIvy · 17/05/2026 16:38

I only put my thickest jumpers and winter boots away, so I still have plenty of warm clothes for now. I can't wait to get into summer dresses and sandals.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 20/05/2026 06:29

I’m still waiting to do a big swap.
So far I’ve only managed to put 2 bug jumpers away and several winter coats.
I need to put some winter dresses away but I was in one yesterday.
It’s not warm enough to be wearing my full on summer clothes such as linen skirts and short sleeved/sleeveless dresses yet. Neither is it bare legs weather.
Come on sunshine!

Tuhafeni · 20/05/2026 10:06

Well, I’m off to the Chelsea Flower Show and going full-on summer.
Linen dress, raffia bag, woven flats.
Luckily the raffia bag is large and I’ll pack trainers, a waterproof and tights just in case 😉

It’s freezing take a cardigan or a coat.

In London for a few days. Last night it was wet and chilly. Today it's not warmed up much yet. Tomorrow the heat kicks in. I've opted for 2 pairs comfy shoes, 1 pair trs, 1 pair culottes, a skirt, some short sleeved tops, a cardy, a blazer, floaty scarf and a brolly. I'd describe all as Spring weight rather than summer stuff.

HellenicOfTroy · 21/05/2026 08:31

I'm going to Dorset for half-term and it looks like it's going to be bloody boiling 😳 but after this week's hailstorms, it's hard to trust the forecasts and leave all my jeans at home!

Supersimkin7 · 21/05/2026 08:58

Living in that Hush wool double face coat in baby blue, wins because it’s a summery colour but vair toasty.

London chill - under 5 degrees at night & daytime slicing icy wind - due to end today. Sure we’ve heard that before.

Cantonet · 21/05/2026 15:15

I've done a spring swap. This mainly means lighter knitwear & thinner cashmere with boho blouses & jeans. Plus more short sleeve t's/ tanks. My summer dresses are lined up in another wardrobe as its been too cold.

This week I've worn thick winter jackets in the morning & the evening as it's been freezing & wet & lightweight summery jackets in the warmer afternoons . Essentially all the seasons in one day.

canuckup · 21/05/2026 16:33

I've done the switch

Washed all the summer stuff and dried it outside too (boasts)

canuckup · 21/05/2026 16:33

Disclaimer that I do live abroad and weather is reliably hot for three months

Tuhafeni · 21/05/2026 18:39

The Chelsea Flower Show was a day of super warm sunshine- absolutely glorious! Lovely to see summer frocks, floral shorts and sun hats back out for the year.

Everything just stays in my wardrobe all year round. If you have to do a wardrobe swap, you probably have too many clothes.

Or too small a wardrobe 😁
