Are we now into summer clothes season? Have you done your wardrobe swap?

It’s gorgeous and sunnny here. I just did my wardrobe swap. A pretty unexciting affair which involves moving tweed, velvet and roll necks out and short sleeve blouses, shorts and sundresses in. Apologies if this brings on a spell of unexpected dreadful weather.

Are people out and about in summer clothes where you are? Cambridge yesterday was a weird mix of barn jackets, beanies, shorts and sandals.

I’m meeting a friend for lunch in Central London today and really want to dig out the off white silk/linen trousers I’ve been yearning to wear (with a light navy knit) but am still a bit traumatised by going to Westfield last early summer in a pastel shirt dress and truly not understanding how every other man, woman and child knew still to wear jeans.

What are we thinking?

It’s very breezy here so not quite yet. SE England.

Next week it’s down to 10-14C for much of the country.

Waaahhh!

gingercat02 · Yesterday 09:25

Still cool up north, but DH got my spring/summer clothes out of the loft last weekend. They aren't unpacked yet.

OP my young adult son has just headed off to work in central London. In a shirt and no coat or jumper 😱 He told me in a withering manner that it’s 20° C today and he is not carrying a coat around all day. I still think he’s a fool.

The 'feels like' temperature is less than 20°C, more like 15-16°C. There's a biting north easterly. I definitely need a jacket! But he's young, he'll cope 🤣

Everything just stays in my wardrobe all year round. If you have to do a wardrobe swap, you probably have too many clothes.

Or you have fantastic storage!
i don’t do a swap, I don’t think of clothes as strictly seasonal, a thin jumper might be worn as a layer in winter but then on a chillier summer day so I wouldn’t want to restrict my options

3ps · Yesterday 10:41

I don’t ‘swap’ wardrobes a such, however if I did then the jumpers would be away and summer tops out! Thick cardigans and jeans stay for those chilli days

Same here, we’re probably classed as underprivileged by the rest of MN

I just don't have much wardrobe space.

I'm always staggered by the number of pairs of trainers so many mumsnetters have. I just have some in a colour that goes with everything I wear.

I don't have a lot of clothes storage - half a wardrobe and three drawers - so out of season clothes get packed away so I can only see what's seasonally appropriate. I swapped out my winter clothes for spring/summer last weekend, and the out of season stuff fits in one carry-on sized suitcase!

OP: In London, currently wearing jeans, t-shirts, light sweaters. Maybe a trench or a blazer but not the Big Coat.

Springersrock · Yesterday 11:10

I’m wearing my thermals today, my office is bloody freezing.

It’s sunny, but windy and the feels like temperature is 11 degrees so I think it will be a little while before summer clothes see the light of day.

Newgolddream70 · Yesterday 11:13

Not fully! I’m in rolling sleeves up territory and saying ‘gosh it’s hot out there’ 😂 I might progress to a T-shirt later. It is very warm here today - South Coast.

BippidyBoppety · Yesterday 11:21

I refer to it as the wardrobe rotate - usually after Easter (did the winter to summer swap last week) and rotate back in mid-October.

I have too many clothes, absolutely. I retired 18 months ago so no longer need work wear; my social circle now is casual day wear. I have joined the Gym so there is a small selection of that stuff, my day-to-day dog walking jeans and tops. I'm gazing at my beautiful summer dresses, half of which didn't make it out of the wardrobe at all last year. A full three double wardrobes of Spring/Summer/Autumn stuff, and (gulp) two huge and three small suitcases of Winter stuff. I have one big bag to go to Charity already. Promised myself last Summer I'd have a proper sort through but it didn't happen ....

Belladog1 · Yesterday 11:27

I did my wardrobe swap at the weekend. All my jumpers are now in the drawers under the bed, and my summery clothes are hung up. I did keep my long sleeved tops and blouses hung up as I know the days can still be a little chilly, and I have a couple of handy fleeces for around the house.

I do it every Spring / Autumn and I take the opportunity to bag up items that are still good for the charity bin.

I don't have anything that's particularly seasonal apart from a couple of pairs of shorts. I wear the same dresses and skirts year round just either over tights/leggings or barelegged. Jumpers go over the top of the same tshirts so there will be a few weeks of no jumpers but not enough it's worth packing them away.

It annoys me to have too much of the same thing. Or sometimes any duplication at all. So I only have one bag, one pair of trainers, one pair of work boots etc.

HellenicOfTroy · Yesterday 11:34

My beloved linen tapered trousers have had a couple of outings, as has a nice new midi skirt (although I did take leggings in my bag 😁). It's DEFINITELY Impractically-Light Jacket Season, one of my very favourite seasons of all.

We're off camping this weekend though some of my big jumpers will be coming with us.

Day-to-day, though, I've put away thick polo necks, all my big coats, and some cords, as well as most scarves and gloves. Exciting times.

AccordingToWhom · Yesterday 11:44

The weather is so variable at the moment I'm not ruling any clothing out! For example, it's going to 22 degrees tomorrow and 12 degrees on Sunday

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 11:53

I don’t have season specific clothes - just a lighter or heavier top layer over basic black jersey trousers and black tank. But I was away for a couple days and you had that hot in the sun, chilly in the shade weather. Then if you go for a walk you’re too cool to begin with then heat up too much by the end! And it’s been very windy since. So no - I’ve pulled out a couple lighter tops but I’m sitting here in a cardi.

PluckedFromThinAir · Yesterday 11:58

I’m wearing jeans in a light colour and some sturdy sandals. Linen shirt in navy, long sleeved. Have a cotton jumper with me. Sunglasses are on!

Im in the garden and cannot see a cloud… going to be 22 degrees here later!

tweed would be boiling

Or too small a wardrobe

GentleSheep · Yesterday 12:00

Not yet. I did have a look in my summer box today but only fished out a couple of things. Just not warm enough here yet (Midlands).

Aluna · Yesterday 12:01

It’s April so the English are out in summer dresses.

I’m still wearing jeans and leather jacket.

Don’t cast your clout until May is out.

ElizaMulvil · Yesterday 12:05

It was 3 degrees in south Sheffield, Tuesday morning so not putting my winter clothes away!

Benio · Yesterday 12:20

I love my boots, I wear them with everything - gutted to be packing them away until Sept. Will also pack my cords away, dark winter dresses and jumpers. I find summer ‘style’ really hard - I don’t had a great body and the arms and legs don’t come out. I have lots of white linen that really only gets worn on hotter holidays. Need to find a summer uniform for the UK. I love my autumnal colours, cords, knits, boots, scarves etc - have to wait until September

North of Sheffield here.

henlake7 · Yesterday 17:09

Im working on it! I dont really do a huge swap out, its bit by bit as it warms up.
So far its just been the proper winter stuff, like Oodies and puffer coats that have been put away.
Then I just swap out some of my shorter dresses (I dont do bare legs!) with some maxi ones and heavier trousers for floaty summer ones.
