Does foundation or base layer of tinted cream that you can't see exist for older skin?

Oricolt · 29/04/2026 18:49

I'm 48. I look older. I am fair and freckly with wrinkles and visible pores.

I wear either no makeup or just a bit of mascara.

I would quite like a layer on my face that sort of evens up the colour and helps me look less haggard. I won't be doing layers of product, or buffing with a pointy egg shaped sponge.

Does such a thing exist? I tried something but I could see it on my face like a paste. I know it's normal to be able to see foundation, especially on older skin, but I don't want that on my face.

@CMOTDibbler@ExOptimist Does the Chanel watery tint last well, or does it disappear quickly?

I find it lasts well.

I’m older than you, but have good skin. My advice is use sunblock on your face and go round the shops in person, speak to the make up artists / assistants, get colour matched and get some decent sized samples to try. Buy a mascara etc. as a thank you for their time and effort, but don’t buy the tinted moisturiser or foundation until you have tried it out. Some to look at - Chantecaille tinted moisturiser or future skin foundation, Lisa Eldridge skin tint - if you are in London, the assistant in Liberty really takes care to get the right shade, Armani Luminous Silk, but may be too much coverage for you.

I'm 47 and use Erborian CC cream. Very light coverage but just evens out the skin tone

JoanThursday · Yesterday 23:21

Erborian CC cream here too!
So easy to apply, absolutely faff-free and looks great.

Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint is very subtle and I wear it every day - it gives a light coverage and just evens it all up a bit. I’m pale and I use shade 3. You might want shade 1 or 2 if you’re very pale.

I was looking at this online as no where has it locally and couldn't figure out which shade. I'm Irish, never tan, blue eyes and was thinking shade 1 or 2. Any advice?

Huda beauty foundation has been great for me xx

TheAlertFish · Today 00:08

I'm in my forties too and most days I use Erborian skin hero - it isn't tinted but just seems to smooth everything out.

I'm very pale too so use a little blush on top and add a couple of bronzing drops in summer for a bit of colour. They have a Glow version of Skin Hero too which adds a subtle sheen.

When I want an actual foundation, I use Mac Face and Body. Super sheer but can be built up and the only foundation I've found that feels comfortable and invisible.

Okay, so my next question is, how do I get samples? Is that still a thing?

Mammy of these recommendations are quite expensive and I can't afford to buy something and it be wrong.

Do I go into a scary makeup shop and ask for advice? Would I need an appointment? The trouble is they like what's fashionable but I don't really. I want diverging to magically make me look a bit fresher without looking like I'm using a product. I want a unicorn!!

I got my daughter’s advice 🤣

I got myself an Elf foundation last autumn which I think is good (invisible, my skin but better) as long as I don’t wear too much, and I also use a powder over it because it’s a bit glossy for my taste! I do think some people wear too much foundation.

But in summer I wear Nivea 24-hour tinted moisturiser. It’s great, gives my a nice glow and evens out my skin. I’m the same age as you and fair with freckles in summer.

48 ✅ pale ✅ freckly ✅ large pores ✅

I use Glossier perfecting skin tint and I’m certain it is what you need.

Chanel water tint is good but slightly heavier, more of a faff to apply and almost double the price.
Eborian I wanted to love after loads of recommendations but it was a bit too orange and a bit too heavy for me.
Loreal usually has some good options but nothing as lightweight as Glossier in my experience.

I’ve actually hit the holy grail recently with the ultimate light, dewy product but I won’t recommend it here as it’s from a Spanish supermarket and not easily available 😬

Erborian CC cream is very good especially for fair skin.

Meant to put in a link. Some Boots have samples- that’s where I went anyway.

This stuff is amazing.. And I hate wearing makeup. I can't feel this once it's on, it comes in a few colours, I honestly can't believe that a tinted moisturiser can make such a difference. The bonus is it doesn't look like makeup, it just makes me look better!

Recklessismymiddlename · Today 09:52

I agree it’s fabulous. My morning routine is so much quicker as it has SPF, moisturiser and hyaluronic acid all in one! Game changer. I’ve converted a lot of my friends to it. I have it in 3 different shades, for winter, slight suntan and proper tan! Genius.

Secretseverywhere · Today 10:03

Theres a cc cream in Aldi that I really like. It’s only 3/4 quid so I buy a years worth whenever I see them. So forgiving. I also buy Aldi dupe of Touché eclait ( comes in a gold tube) and use it for under eyes abit of cream blush and it’s my invisible makeup look.

Please do, I am currently in Spain and would like to try and find it.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser for me, evens up skin tone, looks natural and lets my freckles show through, so many lighter products (BB/CC creams that I've tried) make them look a bit grey and grubby. I went to Space NK for colour matching.

Trinny London BFF De Stress Tinted Serum is fantastic! Doesn’t settle into lines and gives a lovely glowy light coverage. Also comes in a good range of shades. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

It’s expensive but I bloody love Clinic Care’s tinted SPF. It’s taken years of trying what felt like every BB cream under the sun.

@dfitesh6753 is this good with combination skin please? Thank you

KindnessIsKey123 · Today 11:18

Chanel les beige foundation great stuff not that thick coverage

Dazedandconfus · Today 11:19

I have eborian CC water. It’s like a light gel with little white dots in it that when you apply it just blur and light provide a tiny bit of evening out.

I’m pretty sure when you order on line you can also choose a free sample so if you get the sample of what you are buying you can test it before you open the product and therefore return it if you don’t like it 😊

It lasts ages! Doesn’t have any sunscreen in it though.

DramaAlpaca · Today 11:26

I'm not a huge fan of foundation, but I do need a bit nowadays. I'm in my early 60s but not very lined.

I like the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation as it's very light and gives me a bit of a healthy glow.

I also like Erborian CC cream.

SurleyTurnip · Today 11:29

Origins do a couple of products like that. There is a colour changing one in a tube and a product in a pot that comes in a bronze shade or a fair shade. I doesn’t have any coverage but I find it does even out skin tone and give nice glow.

Sunny54321 · Today 14:02

Seconding, or sixling Erborian CC Cream. I'm 60 and love it in the summer when I mix it with tanning drops as I'm so fair skinned.

BaggyLongLegs · Today 14:06

SisterMaryImmaculate · 29/04/2026 19:07

Erborian CC Cream. Similar skin to yours and it works a treat.

I was about to recommend this too. It has a light hint of a tint to even out skin tone and has a nice natural glow. I apply it with fingers (don't tell the make-up brush police).

PinotPony · Today 15:27

Another vote for Erborian CC cream from Amazon. I’m 52 and fair skinned. It’s very light but good coverage.

Squirrelchops1 · Today 15:32

I found the Erborian too 'claggy'. I wanted to love it due to the plethora of positive reviews.
