Does foundation or base layer of tinted cream that you can't see exist for older skin?

I'm 48. I look older. I am fair and freckly with wrinkles and visible pores.

I wear either no makeup or just a bit of mascara.

I would quite like a layer on my face that sort of evens up the colour and helps me look less haggard. I won't be doing layers of product, or buffing with a pointy egg shaped sponge.

Does such a thing exist? I tried something but I could see it on my face like a paste. I know it's normal to be able to see foundation, especially on older skin, but I don't want that on my face.

Placemarking for the same thing… @maftaz im not going to laugh… my future sister in law wears a Laura Mercier bronzer applied with a brush and looks fab. I can’t get past the idea of something called bronzer working on my multicoloured pale/red face.

bb cream
I like the garnier anti age one

I’m quite a bit older (58) and recently got a Vichy moisturiser for 60+ skin called Rose Platinum. I never wear makeup really, for similar reasons to you, but this makes my skin look incredible. Sort of less lined and rather glowy. You need to add your own SPF as it’s just a moisturiser, but I think it’s incredible.

I bought this before and totally agree. It's such a lovely texture and gives a bit of a rosy glow. I must get it again.

I have a lot of tiny broken capillaries on my cheeks and big pores on my chin and find Rosalique good. It's supposed to blend to any skin tone. On days I'm working I use it all over and then just put a bit of foundation on my cheeks where I need a bit of extra coverage. When I'm off I just use Nivea tinted moisturiser.
I have dry skin and foundation all over just doesn't work any more. It dries and cracks and looks awful after about 2 hours. It was much easier 30 years ago when a cheap bottle of Cover Girl did the job.

We sound similar and I am using and loving Lisa Eldridge skin tint. Very light finish and colour match is great

We all find products that will work for us, and what works for one, is awful on another. A lot has to do with age, skin tone, redness, coverage need and so on. In my case I have broken capillaries just on ONE cheek (I knew I was lopsided!) and am a bit blotchy from age spots here and there.

My powder foundation is..... da da - 18 hour HD Matte powder foundation spf 15 from catrice at Primark. Yep that's right, none of your fancy stuff for me, but I reckon if you find something that works labels don't matter. Anyway I think a lot of the high end stuff is made for the lower end of the market anyway and we are fooled! So, that stuff is great and it really does last all day, well on me it does! Add a touch of bare minerals translucent, and a bit of brushed on lightly Max Factor Facefinity bronzer. Add lippy/gloss or just Nivea soft rose lip balm, and I'm out the door in three minutes flat.

Another vote for Erborian CC - truly invisible

Webbedlife · 29/04/2026 20:44

I use Nivea tinted moisturiser, as it doesn't irritate my skin at all and doesn't go powdery. Downside is that it comes in only one shade which is quite warm toned.

GloomyWednesday · 29/04/2026 21:43

I’m the same age as you and would say that you really need to focus on moisturising your skin before adding makeup.

In the morning I use a vitamin C serum, hyaluronic acid and then a moisturiser plus spf.

It’s like prepping a canvas and helps things look and feel better. I tend to use a serum based foundation and it always goes further when applied like this.

TracyVer · 29/04/2026 23:15

No, I use it like some of the others do. Pretty light at first and then you can add if you think you need more. Give it a try.

nagnagnag · 29/04/2026 23:23

Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint is very subtle and I wear it every day - it gives a light coverage and just evens it all up a bit. I’m pale and I use shade 3. You might want shade 1 or 2 if you’re very pale.

I'm 53 and wear the Chanel watery tint https://www.chanel.com/gb/makeup/p/158830/les-beiges-water-fresh-tint-water-fresh-tint-with-micro-droplet-pigments-bare-skin-effect-natural-and-luminous-healthy-glow/ which you just brush on after your moisturiser. It really gives you a glow without settling into lines or looking like its sitting on your face

This is the best ever for a very very light finish which does not settle into lines and wrinkles. I'm 62 and this is the only foundation product I now use. It's extremely light, much lighter than any tinted moisturizer or BB cream. I'm fair and extremely freckly, never want to cover up freckles or have a noticeable finish, this just makes my skin look better but still exactly like skin. It's an excellent product.

Snugglemonkey · 29/04/2026 23:57

I used perricone tinted moisturiser with spf. It says it matches your skin and I feel it does. I have pale freckly skin and it evens it out a little, but there is no mask look, you still see my freckles. My friend also uses it, she has more olive skin and weirdly it does the same for her.

Laura Mercier Tinted Blur Balm. Wear a primer under it appropriate to your skin type

Pearly5 · Yesterday 00:04

I’m a bit younger than you but I love Mac Face and Body for something I can’t see on my skin. I have dry skin though and I can’t wear any base makeup without good skincare and a primer underneath. I also do like the Lisa Eldridge skin tint but that looks a bit more ‘makeupy’ on me.

dicentra365 · Yesterday 00:11

I find glossier skin tint absolutely brilliant. Im your age with similar skin and it just evens everything out and gives me a bit of a glow. It’s the one product I wouldn’t swap out for another brand.

Perricone MD.

TracyVer · Yesterday 00:16

It is just for touch ups. I wear L'Oréal foundation.

HollaHolla · Yesterday 00:17

I've just started using this from No7 at Boots. It says it's foundation, but it's more like a very thin skin tint.No7 Pro Artist Foundation | 24Hr Longwear, Vitamin C & Hyaluronic Acid | No7 UK
I'm 51, and although I have decent skin, I've a lot of discolouration/melasma (thank you, menopause.)
I find it just evens things out, and you can still see my actual skin. It's so much lighter than most other things I've used. I'd recommend going into Boots to try to get a colour match done.

Edited to include:
I should say, I wash my face in the shower, then put on a good moisturising sunscreen (using Biore watery sun gel right now), and leave it 10/15 mins whilst doing hair/getting dressed, and then put on the No7 stuff, and a bit of bronzer/blusher, and eyeliner/mascara. You would have to pry the eye makeup from my cold dead hands.

I might try that. Thank you.

Another vote for the L’Oréal tinted serum here
Also, you say no egg shaped pointy sponges but it’s an easy way to get it blended and looking invisible. Use it damp.

DollopOfFun · Yesterday 08:37

As I get older I hate the look of foundation on my skin, and nowadays I even find BB or CC creams to look too much. Unfortunately I have broken capillaries on my cheeks that make me look like an old alkie (I'm not, honest) if I don't cover them.
I've found that the Trinny Just a Touch concealer on my cheeks, over the Chantecaille Rose Skin Tint covers the redness but leaves the rest of my face looking fresh, and not covered.
