Is this dress too white for a wedding guest?

Macadamia20 · 23/04/2026 18:34

Normally I'm in the camp of if you need to ask then it's a no but keen to hear what other's thoughts are. Is there too much white?
Thanks!

Colour is fine- perfect for a beach wedding.

I have to say, I think a lot of people on Mumsnet have absolutely no idea of fashion and style. And just because they see something that they wouldn’t like or wear, they automatically think there is something wrong with it! This dress would not be for me, but I can completely see it suiting someone else. It is clearly not a dressing gown.

Wow thats a bit catty. People are going to have a wide range of tastes . You alone cannot decree what is stylish or fashionable.

Early morning wedding breakfast?

If that comment is catty then imo its on a level with the comments saying it looks like a dressing gown. Imo they read a bit catty too and like a need to find something to put op off the dress, cos, well its a mumsnet wedding outfit thread 🤣 Just how I read them though, to me it looking not even remotely close to being dressing gown like, and my mum/gran genuinely did wear floaty satiny type dressing gowns back in the day.

Thing is would you want to wear something where every second person you see think uour dress looks like a dressing gown?

and that’s why this forum works. People are honest. And you don’t look at invidudal responses but the general trend, getting all upset on behalf of the op, trying to shut down the conversation does her no help.

sure you’ve a different opinion, so do I, I don’t think it particularly looks like a dressing gown, I think ot looks cheap and poor quality and surprised it costs that much. But I can see half the people think it does look like a dressing gown and if I was the op I’d take that into account. Not be looking for randoms to take offense on her behalf.

its a dress. Not the op herself.

By catty I meant the poster had said a lot of people on Mumsnet have no sense of style and fashion. That’s a pretty damning statement on a Style thread!

Edited

Yea I know what you meant 😃

(Tbf though ive seen some of the Toast threads and question the style aspect there myself on a Style board 🤣 but im very much wear what you want if you like it!)

Catlover77 · Yesterday 16:39

No, it’s not too white, it’s fine

It looks like a dressing gown to me too, sorry.

I wasn't going to post in case I was the only one. It was the first thing that entered my head when I saw it :-(

Exactly this!

The whole point of asking S&B is to get a range of honest opinions from uninvolved people.

If you want that coerced flattery thing where people lie that your awful dress is lovely to spare your feelings, then buy it, wear it, and ask your non-autistic friends what they think.

Don't ask your autistic friends though, they'll probably be honest anyway.

It really isn’t

I dunno about that, my mate who has autism is one of the biggest lying cows I know 😂 also work with a guy whos always saying that hes finished stuff when im blatently sat in the same Sharepoint file looking at his little initial icons dancing around blank cells

Colour fine but style/fabric looks like a dressing gown - sorry

DefiantRabbit9 · Yesterday 19:26

That is so frickin' cute!! and definitely not too white

Theunamedcat · Yesterday 20:08

If you love it I would dye it it looks interesting

The dressing gown comments are silly.

how rude are you?

Many of us think it looks like a dressing gown. That's not 'silly'

embolass · Yesterday 20:40

Absolutely fine, I like it !

LBFseBrom · Yesterday 20:57

No it's fine. A patterrn on a white background is OK, plain white is not appropriate.

That is a very pretty dress. You can pick out the colours in it for hat, shoes, bag and even jewellery.

StartingFreshFor2026 · Yesterday 21:03

I just wouldn't pick anything with more than a hint of white. There is no universally decided "too white" line and some random drunk aunty might be making pointed comments because of their understanding of "too white". If you pick any of the colours which aren't white, cream or light beige, you won't even have to worry about it

Haha, very true! Think you are maybe right about that. I just would want to attend a wedding without worrying.

SpringLambton · Yesterday 21:49

Yes, I see why you like it but, I think you'll have some muttering from a few guests. I'd avoid and find something else.

Actually all of you who are banging on about it looking like a dressing gown are the ones being rude.

The OP asked if the dress is too white. She didn't ask, "should I keep /do you like it?" She had already made her mind up that she liked the dress. Your "ooh it looks like a dressing gown" posts are unsolicited.

And goodness only knows how so many of you can mistake a dress which obviously isn't a wrapover dress and isn't a front opening dress for a dressing gown is kind of silly.

If you want that coerced flattery thing where people lie that your awful dress is lovely

That happens all the time on here.

HonoraCausa · Yesterday 23:57

Lovely dress. I think it’s fine due to the colours and the pattern.
