Normally I'm in the camp of if you need to ask then it's a no but keen to hear what other's thoughts are. Is there too much white?
Thanks!

Absolutely not too white (weirdly controversial but no idea why anyone would think it was) also satin is very much in for formal wear at the moment so not sure why everyone is jumping on the house coat band waggon - guessing the majority of these comments are from late 40s/50+ if it suits you and you feel comfortable and confident there’s no reason not to wear it

It's fine on colour IMO but agree about dressing gown vibes!

Agreed. @Macadamia20 It's not too bad (as in not too white) but it does look like a dressing gown, or bathrobe IMO..... I would only wear this around the house TBH! 😬

I am quite sensible thank you. It isn't about being mistaken for the bride, that sounds a silly idea. It's just tradition that only the bride wears white.

I have only heard that tradition on here. I've been to plenty of weddings where many guests wear white especially when it's a summer wedding. No one has ever commented or care
It's a made up tradition.

Dutchhouse14 · 23/04/2026 22:53

Its fine, white background but lots of colours on the print so doesnt look too white at all

PyongyangKipperbang · 23/04/2026 22:57

Anyone else think that this whole thing of "if a dress has any white at all then its too white for a wedding" has got out of hand?!

That dress with a wrap matching one of the other colours, plus shoes bag etc that accent the colours would be fine!

Its hardly bridal!

Ophy83 · 23/04/2026 23:08

It's completely fine

DJKATIE · 23/04/2026 23:13

No it's fine but it looks like a dressing gown

pinkpony88 · 23/04/2026 23:20

This is one of the few times I care what others think of me. Because if I go to a wedding and someone is wearing something too white I just think “what a dick”. I would consider this borderline and so wouldn’t risk it in case people looked at me and thought I was a dick🤣

Yes. It's rooted in the idea that you aren't supposed to dress in a way that looks like a bride. Brides don't have big pink flower prints on their dresses.

fruitfly3 · 23/04/2026 23:54

Definitely not too white - tones of colour all over it. Enjoy!

Seacatt · 23/04/2026 23:59

Holiday dressing gown vibes.

Ironically, the whole idea of Bridesmaids came about to fool evil spirits or anyone who might try to steal the bride away, so Bridesmaids were dressed to look as much like the bride as possible!

And the concept of wearing white at your wedding became fashionable after Queen Victoria wore it, its not traditional its a trend that never went away! Before Victoria a woman of low to modest means wore her best dress to get married in, the upper classes would have a gown specifically for their wedding but they were the outliers. Clothes were very very expensive so if you could afford a gown that was only worn once it was more about parading your wealth than anything else.

Its just got bloody daft now.

Nope not too white, doesn't look anything like a wedding dress and I think it's nice. Would wear it with gold chunky jewellery.

bittertwisted · Yesterday 00:16

It’s gorgeous and a flattering shape. Not too white and nothing like a dressing gown

Absolutely fine. Nice dress. Some people on here are batshit re this topic, lol.

Completely agree. Of course it's not too white. It's literally covered in bloody big pink and lilac flowers.

the upper classes would have a gown specifically for their wedding but they were the outliers.

In Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence about upper class New Yorkers, the heroine May Welland has her wedding dress made over by Worth. It was the custom for brides to wear their wedding dresses as evening gowns in the first year or two of marriage.

Other classes might have got a new dress but it became a best dress, or Sunday best. Thomas Hardy mentions this , but I can't remember which novel. The Age of Innocence really stuck in my mind as it seems so unusual now.

Moveoverdarlin · Yesterday 00:19

It’s absolutely fine!! It’s patterned, it’s colourful. It’s genuinely fine for a wedding.

MrsClatterbuck · Yesterday 00:24

It's absolutely fine. Definitely not too much white unless the bride is a bridezilla and is demanding that there is to be no white on anything.
Perfect for a summer wedding. Totally insane for anyone to say a dress worn by a wedding guest shouldn't contain any white.
Where I am I have noticed a lot MOB and MOG have been wearing white which I find a bit weird.

Oh yes, having it made over afterwards, but I mean that it had never been worn before and custom made, expensive etc.

Current thread going about a bride who is insisting on no white all (shoes, t shirts etc) on her HEN! That really is OTT!

ComedyGuns · Yesterday 00:29

The dress I’m linking to is gorgeous and very appropriate!

DeftGoldHedgehog · Yesterday 03:13

It's a lovely dress and ideal to wear as a guest at a summer wedding.

Yes, I’m the same age and that’s what it reminded me of.

My very glam Auntie, in her satin dressing gown and fluffy pink slippers with a little heel.

I'm in my 50s and understand that fashions get repeated every few years.

Overtheatlantic · Yesterday 03:21

I’ve never seen a dressing gown with a twist in the front. Don’t they usually have belts that tie? The sleeves are a great length. The print is lovely.
