I sympathise, but it is excess weight. You can lose it. And do some exercises to tighten your abs- lots online.

When I put on a few pounds it goes exactly there.

Maybe if you can shed 4-5 pounds ?

Being kind but frank- you do look a bit overweight as you have back fat too.
Two to three weeks of really cutting back should shift a lot of that.

The only thing that works for me is low carb, upping my walking to 45-60 mins a day and basically eating less.

Edited

Back ‘fat’ is completely normal, unless in massive excess obviously.

Sorry I haven't read the full thread, but I am exactly the same shape as you. I have found that low or mid rise clothing are an absolute no-no as it emphasises the overhang, especially if it sits under your tummy.

I've found mid to high rise / high waisted clothing hides it really well - however it needs to feel quite supportive to smooth the tummy out well rather than it just hanging in the same shape but just underneath your clothes. If it's too loose, it will just encompass your tummy and your bulge will just be contained in the trousers and still visible.

For example, I have some super stretchy high waisted jeans which are great, but my tummy still looks quite big. As opposed to proper thick jeans material ones, which sort of hold it in at the same time.

I also wear high waisted gym leggings which, if high quality and thick material or compression type styles (such as sweaty Betty power leggings) really hide the tummy and smooth it out well. Again, you need the balance right between so compressing that it squished and causes muffin top, but tight enough to smooth the tummy - not so loose that there's no shape!

Anything that is mid rise that is too tight or doesn't have quite enough stretch will give you a "muffin top" or cause tyres which looks awful - it needs to either be high waisted or loose enough to sit on your tummy without squishing the middle of it.

In terms of tops, I used to try find longer, looser tops but actually shorter tops but I found these actually emphasises my tummy as they gather at the tummy then hang down after. or ones that only just sit above my trousers seem better as you don't get that "bump" - you just end your tummy where your trousers start. I do need looser styles and trousers that don't stick to the tops / tops in a slippy material so they fall over the fabric rather than gathering at the tummy.

Hope that helps - the jeans I like are Asda wonderfit. I have now lost a bit of weight and the overhang is much better, and I can wear tighter tops now but my shape is still exactly the same and I still get the overhang with lower rise pants.

You look fine op, sorry I can’t advise on style. there’s no reason for the dieting comments ladies!

Sadly I’m the same, well I’m worse with the same problem. Had my DC fine in my teens didn’t even put on any weight, had major surgery in my 30s that weakened that part of my body and my weight went up and then in my 40s got the overhang. No idea what helps, I lost one and a half stone zero difference. It’s because those muscles have weakened in my body due to my health.

Not style advice but I tend to wear leggings with tunic style tops over, jeans and jeggings with a nice top and in the summer dress or a top and shorts. Some make it look worse some a little better, I’m always worrying about it.

I think OP has left the thread because she was offended by the clothing suggestions as well as the dieting ones. As a medic she probably knows more about diet than the general population.
However in case she’s still reading can I give my perspective from the point of view of having had my second pregnancy, which was twins, go to 40 weeks and my belly was HUGE. And of course had overhang afterwards.
Although OP doesn’t seem to want to hear it, I will repeat what everyone else has been saying about proper big knickers! They really do work and are a hundred times more comfortable than shape underwear, which just pushes the excess flesh further up. Get big knickers that sit on your actual waist.
Also, and I’m saying this in a whisper because no doubt I will be in trouble for saying it, but losing a few pounds did indeed help. It helps by reducing the bust area as well. Everything is more defined if the bust is lifted a bit more. And for me it had to be by dieting, exercise has no effect on my weight.

Medic? @Jacopo

She used the words 'operating' and I took that to mean machinery of some sort. Nothing in her posts suggest she is a medic unless I've missed it.

She said something about having to change a lot, and going in and out of surgery. Who knows. Maybe she will come back and tell us.

Apologies if already recommended, but I really rate Snag pants. Their full brief (I think it's called?) and ultra high rise styles. Brilliant quality thick cotton. They smooth and gently support without feeling like actual control pants. Makes a huge difference under clothes.

They've started a an actual control style too but I've not tried yet.

But @maisiepoppins is right - changing your diet will help. We need to move away from the fallacy that pregnancy causes irreversible or inevitable weight gain and “mum tum”.

I agree. I was actually at my slimmest and looked my best a few months after baby no.4 because I was healthy.

Unfortunately I haven't kept up the same amount of healthy living since those years ago and am now following this for advice. I am also heavier on the top and struggle to find flattering clothes (have joined the gym though!)

RealReginaPhalange · Yesterday 16:57

I have the SAME issue. My belly looks like 5 months pregnant. Its such an issue. i do have a few dresses which makes me look better. I wil lsee if i can find some links

I was healthiest and slimmest after baby number 3 (pregnancy number 4) - still had a mum tum on me.

TBH I don't think the photo is very good.
It's hard to tell from a sideways view if it's loose skin, muscle slackness or being overweight.

I'm concerned it's weight partly as OP says she is diabetic and visceral fat around the belly is a key risk factor ( yes, I know slim people can still develop type 2 diabetes.)

I know OP didn't like me saying it might need a bit of weight loss but I did say I'd looked like that at one point when I needed to lose a few pounds. It was meant to be helpful.

Those knickers look so uncomfortable 😖Get some belly warmers on you, at least they reduce some of the bulge ripples.

GrandmasCat · Today 08:34

Stop wearing bikinis for starters. Even granny pants would be better. You can get tummy control pants with a high % of cotton from M&S. Long loose tops can disguise the tummy well particularly if you have long legs
