Is making me look so fat. I wear baggy clothes because my waist is two sizes bigger than my body

Shaping underwear probably is the best thing to hide it, though.

High waisted jeans? That might do the job of holding it in without being as restrictive as shapewear.

Honestly the modern shapewear isn’t too bad though - as PP said, get the style that goes right up to your bra to avoid rolling down.

Or an empire line dress. These have the seam under the boobs so they skim over everything from above the waist.

Great advice.

Shape wear and shape underwear are your best bet.
Which one you use depends on the outfit you’re wearing on the day.

Also high waisted jeans are everyone’s friend.

And you can look at your body shape online and see what it is (yours may be apple) and it will give you ideas like the empire line dress which suit your shape.

I have an hour glass which means wide hips, bigger bum and legs, so wearing slimmer jeans looks good but I can’t wear baggy jeans as they look awful on me.

Posters are saying bigger underwear as when the underwear is too small it can dig in and not look good under clothes. And not everyone wants to wear shaping underwear all of the time.

Shape wear and wearing clothes to suit your body type is the way to go.

It is really hard to dress. I struggle when I swell up like this because some days I’m fine, other days I look pregnant. I want to dress so people don’t ask me if I’m pregnant (because I can’t get pregnant) but also it can vary through the day which doesn’t help at all

Have you figured out why you bloat?

I do bloat too but there are certain things that trigger it (cucumber, milk) and so I save those things for when I know I’m at home in comfy clothes.

You will have better parts of your body than others and the key is to highlight these areas and hide the other areas.

My friend has incredible legs but a big belly.
So she’s always in short dresses. Even in the winter she’ll wear a short dress, tights and boots

Endometriosis and adenomyosis so nothing makes a difference. I can go from nothing to unable to wear a waistband in 5 minutes flat

I had diastasis recti after my third and did eventually resolve it through intense physio and PT, but, before that, I really liked these - they give just a bit of smoothing and hold without the compression feeling of shapewear, which I can't bear. Although they look to be sold out, I would guess there are similar things out there.

And, sorry, OP, but do you have three children or five? You've said both, so I'm curious.
I also walk to work and had three children
I'm also 5 foot and 5 babies

I think accepting these are the wrong underwear for you would be a start op.

Yes agree. You need shapewear pants or least larger ones that go high.

That’s awful! I’m so sorry you have to deal with that.

Bloating for me is bad enough as it’s uncomfortable and painful but at least I’m able to avoid it reduce it by doing things.

You have my sympathy 💐

Don't be bloody daft. It's not going to reduce the belly size is if

Ok, why ask then?

Weeelokthen · 19/04/2026 19:24

Your pic is so like me too. Its good jeans i'm after if anyone can point me in any direction

Spanx, a corset , or lose some weight.

I find it bizarre that women are coming on this thread making all these accusations about my diet, exercise, what I do and don't do etc.

Weird.

It's a fashion sub, get with the programme

It's not an accusation to say you have excess fat. So do I, in fact mine is worse than yours. I don't think anyone here has been intentionally rude or hurtful, but you're obviously very self conscious about it so have jumped onto the defensive. I would have too, probably. Also it's not always easy to see which forum things are on, if you just click through latest threads, or most popular threads, or whatever.

Nobody is "accusing" you of anything, but it is a fact that this overhang can be dealt with.

As I mentioned, I have one too and am also not dealing with it. But I know why I have it - and that's too much food and not enough exercise! It's not (all) pregnancy related, there's definitely fat there.

wardobe123 · 19/04/2026 16:10

You are being VERY rude now. Nothing you WEAR is going to reduce your belly size. But having better fitting EVERYTHING will help.

ChachiChichi · 19/04/2026 20:49

Just get bigger pants (as in full briefs). Way comfier and nothing hangs out cos it's inside the pants.

ChachiChichi · 19/04/2026 20:52

P.S. shapewear is super uncomfy and just not an everyday thing I'd be prepared to endure. Flattering high waist trousers and loose fitting tops. Big pants. Job done.

AccordingToWhom · 19/04/2026 22:05

Newmeagain · 19/04/2026 14:28

But @maisiepoppins is right - changing your diet will help. We need to move away from the fallacy that pregnancy causes irreversible or inevitable weight gain and “mum tum”.

No she wasn't because this is Style & Beauty, not Diet & Exercise.

AccordingToWhom · 19/04/2026 22:07

maisiepoppins · 19/04/2026 14:19

I sympathise, but it is excess weight. You can lose it. And do some exercises to tighten your abs- lots online.

When I put on a few pounds it goes exactly there.

Maybe if you can shed 4-5 pounds ?

Being kind but frank- you do look a bit overweight as you have back fat too.
Two to three weeks of really cutting back should shift a lot of that.

The only thing that works for me is low carb, upping my walking to 45-60 mins a day and basically eating less.

"Being kind " 🙄

Tell you what - why don't you just copy your response, and then every time you see a post on here from anyone who is looking for ideas on what clothes to wear to disguise their large thighs, or saggy boobs, or bingo wings, or large bum, or whatever it is they don't particularly like, you can just paste it into your reply? That way, instead of actually giving a response to the OP or going to the bother of linking to clothes that could work, you could simply boil your answer down to 'you're fat' and save yourself having to type a constructive answer to the actual question asked.

But the. @wardobe123 is in denial and rude to helpful clothing suggestions too

Picalilylou · 20/04/2026 00:12

Levis do a "shaping" jean where pocket fabric joins the fly internally and gives extra support, I get on well with them and not as pricey as NYDJ, which i think are a similar concept.

moderate · 20/04/2026 05:07

wardobe123 · 19/04/2026 14:32

It's awful isn't it.

Sadly my stomach hasn't improved with my pregnancies and I dead lift 120kg weekly and do pull ups, but muscle strength has declined with menopause. I walk to work as well as spend 50% operating, but apparently I'm lazy and don't count calories

Okay but what about crunches and Russian twists?

You can’t really blame people for answering your question truthfully “there is no silver bullet”.

VividDeer · 20/04/2026 07:44

My Facebook feed is now full of adverts for shaping underwear, especially designed for overhanging tum.
Reviews were mixed, but shapermint was one that appeared

Any suggestions for clothing?

Full blouses, shirts, loose dresses, anything other than clingy jumpers and T shirts.
