I’ve been using Nars radiant longwear for 6 years now & although I like it I’m fancying a change but don’t really know what other good foundations are out there.

Does anyone recommend any particular ones that is similar to Nars? (I’ve used EL double wear before so not that one)

Thanks

This is my current favourite. Nearly finished the bottle and will re-buy it. Light to medium coverage but never sits in fine lines and I’m always so happy with my skin when I wear it.

Hourglass as my out out foundation.

Jones Road WTF foundation as my day to day.

Georgio Armani Luminious Silk. It is the best foundation I have ever used, and I have tried most. Went on a huge search when Estee Lauder kept changing their double wear and I will never use anything else now.

I used Charlotte Tilbury for a year which I loved as 1 x £35 lasted me 12 months. I got another bottle, it started to melt off my face.
Then I tried some tinted moisturizers, and found Benefit Porefessional samples were amazing.
So I got a bottle of their foundation and their primer - now that melts off my face too and I've only had it 3 months.
Now I'm at a total loss what to get next, I have £70 worth of foundation sat in my make up bag that just looks awful. I like the full coverage matte finish, and I'm 30, no hormonal changes so I can't understand why it keeps happening.

CalicoCaterina · 19/04/2026 06:25

That sounds really frustrating @Dontgoforward . Have you got time to spend on a session at a make up counter to trial something?

When I wanted to change my foundation I booked a session at Bobbi Brown and had an hour with a consultant who was incredibly lovely and patient - really took her time to get something that I liked. I wore it for the whole day and went back the next day to buy it. I'm not sure how soon the 'melting' happens though so this might not be the answer.

It has taken me a while to find something I love and that looks great but I am really happy with what I'm wearing atm.

Those of you who use Erborian, just check in the mirror a couple of hours after you've applied it. It looked great when I first put it on, but turned so orange as the day wore on that I had to stop using it. DH (who isn't remotely observant) asked what the orange line was on my neck!

It's a known to oxidise apparently and it's much worse with the light shade.

Yeah,it's not for me either,it's really drying and the shade is way off. I'm always surprised so many
people like it.

I used Double Wear sheer for years but it's now discontinued, now I'm used Revlon Colourstay and I prefer it.

@CalicoCaterina the first few weeks of a new foundation are great. The CT one I had for a whole year, the Benefit one I had 2 samples of and brought after using the samples.
I've tried different primers or no primer too. I have the Elf Halo one on my list next as I know someone who uses it and it looks great.

What are using to apply it ? Does the brush or sponge need washing?

CalicoCaterina · 19/04/2026 07:37

That's a shame @Dontgoforward . Honestly, since switching to Bobbi Brown I have never looked back. I've got two different foundations and two different primers, I love everything I'm using atm. The intensive serum foundation and intensive serum radiance primer are probably my favourite products but the normal primer and weightless skin foundation also seem to suit my skin really well and are a big improvement on the Clarins stuff I used before.

I'm a bit late to the party though lol, as I didn't really pay that much attention until I hit 50.

trixie1970 · 19/04/2026 08:39

I use Il Makiage and love it. So easy to use and blend. I've used it for many years and the shade matching quiz results were spot on. You can order on a subscription basis, like me, or just a one off. Their concealer is also very good.

Another vote for Bobbi Brown. The colours match my skin well (I am more yellow based than pink). And the formulas are lovely and not cakey. For a cheaper but similar feel, Bourjois serum foundation is fab.

I’ve bought the VB foundation on the back of this thread and it’s truly amazing if you want a natural polished look.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 19/04/2026 20:08

@DivorcedButHappyNowOMG don’t tell us that 😭 - I’m just coming to the end of my Lisa Eldridge Skin Tint…

HotSoupBowl · 19/04/2026 20:27

I’m adding Nars Matte Longwear to my top 3 😂 I’ve spent FAR too much on foundation to figure all this out 😂

ConstantlyFuriosa · 19/04/2026 20:29

Bricks and mortar. Apols if anyone got there before me.

Have you tried a setting spray? The Milk one is good

Yes I agree. I was dubious but the colour match is the best I've ever had. I have fair but slightly olive skin and find other foundations too pink. This was spot on.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 19/04/2026 21:14

In all seriousness. I can’t abide her, but apparently her foundation drops are the business. Has anyone tried Vicky B’s foundation?

Nickelouch · 19/04/2026 21:40

Following with great interest. Have been using Mac Studio Fix for ten years but it’s going cakey on me now. Feel like I need something more buildable and maybe glowy. Tempted by Armani Luminous Silk, NARS Natural Radiant Longwear and Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue based on this thread and previous experience and budget.

If I go Space NK or Sephora will they be non brand loyal and help me find the best for my skin?

Yes, quite a few of us on this thread have discussed it (all positive!)

dogsarebetterthanppl · 19/04/2026 22:56

i'm on my 3rd bottle of kylie cosmetics power plush, and i was famous for buying every foundation under the sun and hating them.

I am so tempted to try it, I just can’t justify the price if I love it so much and want to keep repurchasing!

I’ve heard and seen good things regarding Il Makiage!!!

Thank you. I’ve looked at it several times but the shade I want is always out of stock. It helps to know it’s good as it’s so pricey.

Also, but where would you get colour matched if you're not local to London?? My worry is doing it online and it's not accurate enough with the price of it
