Name me a good foundation

I’ve been using Nars radiant longwear for 6 years now & although I like it I’m fancying a change but don’t really know what other good foundations are out there.

Does anyone recommend any particular ones that is similar to Nars? (I’ve used EL double wear before so not that one)

Thanks

The closest match to Victoria Beckham I’ve found is Sweed (£35 rather than £100+) - buildable coverage, lasts all day, gives that slightly dewy soft focus look.

CalicoCaterina · 17/04/2026 05:01

I like Bobbi Brown weightless skin foundation for light coverage and their intensive serum foundation when I want a bot more coverage. Their primer is also very good and spf50.

StormInaDcup99 · 17/04/2026 06:32

@NorthFacingGardener re the eeborian cc cream being too orange....i mix clarite with dore to get desired colour

LlamaBasket · 17/04/2026 06:50

I used to wear EL Doublewear, but as I got into my 40s, I found it was becoming aging.
I switched to NARS tinted moisturiser which I actually really like. It does mean I need to add a bit of powder halfway through the day, but it’s no big deal.

Girlintheframe · 17/04/2026 06:55

There are a few I like, Nars, Bobbi Brown, glossier. Mostly now I use the supergoop tinted su screen or Nars tinted moisturiser.

Have to agree with this, it’s amazing and worth the price. Plus for day time you need very little so hopefully it will last ages. My skin also feels great when I wear it for a few days in a row.

Totally worth the hype (I also hoped it would not be)

I've not tried the VB one, but it sounds very similar to this Typology one:

This also sinks in and blurs, it's the best I've ever used.

Sérum teinté - teint — Typology

Many many recommendations here - how did you end up with these? Do you buy bottle after bottle and just try them out? VB is £104 which I really baulk at as an experiment.

i went through years of trial and error. I would find something I liked and then it would get discontinued. I got invited to a Tropic party, tried their products and they just worked perfectly for me. The good thing about their parties is you get to try stuff on and see if you like it first, my local sales person will also lend you stuff to try.

It is a bit.

I don't use the more expensive products now, but when I did I would always ask for a sample first. This would usually in be in store though and then they give you around a weeks worth.

I have a tub in my bottom drawer which is quite embarrassing full of half used foundations. My intention was to mix them up, add in to moisturizer, use on a bruise etc etc but this has not happened. I have found that my shade has changed as I have got older, so many of them are too dark/wrong tone for me now.

I just heard the one I use (Revlon Illuminating Serum tint) has only gone and bloody been discontinued now. So I am going to stock up and hope my shade doesn't change again. Sigh.

I always get a sample to try first to take away and try at home. I just wouldn’t shell out ££ as the colour may be wrong or the coverage not what I’m after or it may not suit my skin type.

Yeah I finally at 52 actually engaged with a person in a makeup shop and tried it on. It did help. I have always been the type of person who felt like I didn't belong in makeup shops (and didn't want a movie makeover scene) but that was just poorly thinking. Much better than the billions of nearly full cheap foundation bottles in the bin.

Elf Halo Glow is affordable and brilliant.

Gianna9461 · 17/04/2026 15:03

I know it’s not a luxury brand, like most suggestions on here, but I really like Maybelline 30h lumimatte. It’s a light, thin liquid (not thick or chalky like some full coverage foundations), but it dries down matte and covers redness/blemishes etc well. However I am 30; if you have more mature skin, you might need to prep your skin a bit more beforehand, to smooth out any lines.

I've never heard of this eroubian (sp).brand do they sell it at male up counters how do you get your shade ?

MJOverInvestor · 17/04/2026 16:27

Space NK stocks it and maybe John Lewis now… if you live near either…

ThatGladTiger · 17/04/2026 16:52

I‘m doing the opposite of you. After using my
one for a while I’m jumping over to Nars once this bottle runs out just to try something different.

I currently use easy blur from Huda and love it. Great to layer up if you want a different level of cover at different times.

IwanttoWFH · 17/04/2026 16:54

I love the Christian Dior foundation stick. You can get colour matched at Boots. It goes on like a dream, great coverage and you don’t need much.

Ive seen it in sephora and selfridges. There's only a couple of shades of CC cream. Its a white/grey cream that releases colour as you rub it in.

I use the dore CC cream but only need to use a small amount or it looks too much. I also like their dull correct for low makeup days. It provides a bit of colour and evens out my skin tone in a natural subtle way.

Ineedanewsofa · 17/04/2026 20:15

Switched from Nars to CT Flawless Filter foundation about 2 years ago. Also regularly wear Eborian CC, it’s magic!
CT recently ran out so decided to try the new EL Double Wear - it is awful! So drying, I looked like a shrivelled prune after a couple of hours! It does stay put well however, even being doused with face spritz…
Planning on mixing it with the Eborian CC when I want more coverage to see if that stops it sucking the moisture from my soul

I hadn’t heard of it either until very recently. I think it was a previous thread on here where it was recommended, so I gave it a go and ordered online. There’s a limited range, and I have the BB cream which was better for me than the CC. They are very good at taking back unopened tubes and offer free samples with a purchase so you can get a full size plus a sample of a particular colour and use the sample and keep the full size or send back if the sample of it was no good.

ForCosyLion · 17/04/2026 23:04

For sheer convenience, I LOVE powder foundations. Been wearing them for years. My favourite is Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. They have an enormous range of shades - 78! It's definitely best to get matched in-store. Clinique did a great one too, but it's been discontinued.

ForCosyLion · 17/04/2026 23:06

Oh - and if anyone doesn't want to spend the earth but wants a good foundation, I've found The Body Shop's Fresh Nude liquid foundation to be excellent.

locket2009 · 17/04/2026 23:09

estee Lauder Hydra luminous lasts like double wear but not matte

You can get pale-shaded drops to mix into your foundation and lighten the shade.

Use those babies up! There are sub-reddits for using up makeup, if you need encouragement.

ForeverTheOptomist · 18/04/2026 00:41

i use Dior Forever Hydra Nude. It’s wonderful and gives your skin a lovely glow. I’ve tried many over the years and this is the best. It was £50 last time I bought it. Try and pick up a sample. Good luck!

Riverpaddling · 18/04/2026 16:32

Those of you who use Erborian, just check in the mirror a couple of hours after you've applied it. It looked great when I first put it on, but turned so orange as the day wore on that I had to stop using it. DH (who isn't remotely observant) asked what the orange line was on my neck!

It's a known to oxidise apparently and it's much worse with the light shade.
