I have used Alien by Thierry Mugler and get a lot of compliments when I use that perfume. I am currently wearing Kenzo and just received one compliment.

I went to a perfume exhibition a few years ago at Somerset House, Molecule 01 was a featured perfume for being so different, it was very interesting.

springvegetables · 12/04/2026 21:19

Baccarat Rouge I get loads of compliments. DH doesn’t like it though because it’s a unisex scent and his best friend wears the same 😂

also love la vie est belle, black opium and cashmere from next!

I used to love Rive Gauche back in the 1990s. Bought a bottle 2 or 3 years ago and OMFG it stank. WTF did they do to it? Why are perfume makers hell bent on reformulating beautiful fragrances and completely ruining them?

Funny enough, Rive Gauche was my Mother’s signature scent for decades, but she found the same. She visited a fragrance shop in France last summer & was delighted they have returned to the original formula, it’s so much less overpowering than the one they tried to replace it with. Great they also listened to feedback & reverted apparently as a result.

Armani Sì
Marc Jocobs Daisy
Any of the Clinique ones
My Estee Lauder got passed around the office one day 🤣
La Vie Est Belle has to be my absolute favourite though....so anybody that doesn't like theirs...send it my way 🌸

Catpuss66 · 12/04/2026 21:30

Layer molecule 01 with Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche.
le labo santal wouldn’t but again not long lasting too expensive

Back in the day I'd get compliments on YSL Rive Gauche and Estee Lauder Pleasures - but I don't like them anymore. I think they've changed the formula.

I do get compliments on jo malone English pear and freesia which is what I wear everyday.

I think our bodies change too because I find some scents that suited me previous no longer do. I think medications can have an effect on how things smell on you too as they can change your own scent. There was a huge study done once that was really interesting, just a little frustrating when you've found a scent you've always loved.

I also had a friend who smelt beautiful so I thought I'd try the same perfume. She's oriental and I'm not and sadly on me it smelt like cats toilet. We both agreed I shouldn't do that again 😆

I have so many, day time, work, special occasion, it’s the one thing I always wear even when wfh, I just feel better smelling nice! Ones I have gone back to again and again though are Eternity by CK, Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom (I had the candles too but now discontinued, gutted) but my absolute fave that everyone knows me for is Samsara, doesn’t smell as strong as it did years ago but still ‘my scent’ despite wearing it since my first bottle in 1993 😆 and possibly old fashioned, but it’s my no1 and I still love it!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/04/2026 21:36

My fave is the old Rochas Femme. Only on eBay now. Compliments have included Michael Kors Sexy Amber and Sky Blossom and YSL addict intense and also an old Yohi Yamamoto one which of course is discontinued. And a YSL one forget name but had pastel letters on it, and a hint of pepper.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/04/2026 21:36

Oh I used to love Byzance by Rochas too.

SkinnyLatteExtraHotPlease · 12/04/2026 21:38

Issey Miyake's L'Eau D'Issey Pour Femme Eau De Toilette worn it for years, always trying different ones but keep going back to it! Tons of compliments ☺️

Crwysmam · 12/04/2026 21:39

Coco Chanel. Whenever I wear it any man stood next to me will compliment me. I’ve been stood on a rugby touchline and been complimented. Men seem to love the scent.
I’ve been wearing it for over 40yrs and although the newer formulations are slightly different it still turns heads.

My other favourite is O de Lancôme, not the modern version but the vintage one before it was reformulated. It has a certain note that you just caught occasionally that was addictive. My DM wore it for a few years and I loved sitting behind her in the car just to enjoy the scent. I wore it all through uni and when my DSis visited the first thing she would do is stick her head in my wardrobe and inhale deeply. I occasionally come across a vintage bottle on Vinted or eBay so have a collection I use occasionally. I’ve also picked up a few old bottles of Coco.

Loved PRADA Amber. So sad it’s no longer available without sourcing online.

Another vote for Saltworks but for me it’s Ko Mene. I also loved Brown Sugar and Surfari enough from the samples that I got those for Christmas last year. Tabac Soleil was definitely in my top 5.

I so wanted to love saltworks but found all the scents so sickly - even the heavy leather ones have too much rose in.

My current favourite perfume brand is Discotesque. All Night Til First Light is stunning, but the whole range is great

2026IsMyYear · 12/04/2026 21:46

O De Lancome was the very first perfume i bought myself. On my first trip to London! I wore it for years!

Later in my late 20s i fell in love with Eau D'Orly which was super cheap but really beautiful. I was gutted when it was discontinued. I still have a tiny but left in a bottle which is hidden in a dark cupboard & every once in a while i have a little sniff & it instantly transports me back to that time which was a very happy exciting time in my life

That’s funny as I hate rose scents but don’t get hints of it at all in these 😆 noses are strange!

Forgot to add this works do a nighttime perfume it’s lovely like a warm fluffy towel. Really helps to have restful sleep

Does anyone use any of those dupe brands? My algorithm has been shouting them all at me since I’ve been posting on here about perfume.

My partner does for aftershave, says it's great and I once had a dupe for Jean Paul, was pretty decent but only lasted about 12 months before went off. They're really cheap so worth a punt imo, both times the scent was very good.

TheGreenBow · 11/04/2026 23:58

@DoNotSitDownNextToMe are you spraying it enough? Apparently 15 sprays is recommended so I guess any less and your perfume might not be noticeable to others, so no compliments. Although 15 sprays of some perfumes would knock people out so it does depend on the perfume 🤣 I’d do lots of La vie and have been complimented.

15 sprays of some perfumes would knock people out

I'd say 15 sprays of any perfume would knock people out

Omg, samsara was one of my favourites. I didn’t even know they still made it.

SadCelticBunny · 12/04/2026 22:10

I'm going to run in and then leave as the scent I get regularly asked about is Organic Patchouli oil from Starchild in Glastonbury. ☺️
I love Oud too.
I also wear some of the perfumes from Replica by Maison Margelia too, opposite end of the scent scale indeed!
I always wore Poison in my heyday, these strong scents really suit my skin.

KC0408 · 12/04/2026 22:15

I wear Ghost, the original one in the tall bottle and get loads of compliments.
i can’t smell it on myself at all though

ImogenBrocklehurst · 12/04/2026 22:24

My all time favourite was Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood. It was discontinued about ten years ago, but it’s recently been reintroduced, after I spent all that time searching for a new “signature” scent and finding La Bella Cibeles by Loewe. When I wear it I compliment myself because it’s so divine 😊

Omg, samsara was one of my favourites. I didn’t even know they still made it.

It’s so expensive to buy now, I remember every time my student loan id get a bottle for about £30, now it’s £130 and as sandalwood isn’t as easy to get it’s not quite as strong. Not many shops sell it, I think John Lewis is one of the only ones now.
