Anyone seen any lovely wedding guest appropriate dresses in the shops?

Anyone seen any simple, pretty, NOT backless or strappy or super tight or frilly or dowdy dresses suitable for a wedding guest? Seems a real dearth at the moment. All I want is to wear a bra without it showing, and a simple, chic dress that isn't burgundy, black, brown khaki or otherwise sludge coloured!

Re Little Madam - seems genuine if you look on Trust Pilot...

@EleanorMc67 Stine Goya is a good shout. As is the Outnet. Liberty do great brands and also MyTheresa or Net-a-Porter.

I was so taken with the Alie Street Maxine dress I have ordered it to try on - it’s a lot more £££ than my Nobody’s Child but it’s so lovely! Here’s hoping I don’t look like a sack of spuds in it 🤣

From down here in the cheap seats I think Joe Brown has some lovely dresses for summer weddings.

elizabethdraper · 02/04/2026 12:34

Most are very boring and dowdy but then again, I am Irish. We go for bright colours and over the top dresses not dress you would wear to the office 😂

No "we" don't!! You might, & your friends might, & the women at the weddings you go to might ... but you're generalising, & making all Irish women sound like gaudy parakeets ...!!

But I* don't wear really bright OTT dresses to weddings, nor do I flash much more flesh than usual - & none of the guests' outfits at weddings I've been to in Ireland have burnt any retinas ...!!!

*Irish, live in Scotland, been to shitloads of weddings in Ireland (north & south), the rest of the UK & elsewhere ...

I agree.Would never wear any of those dresses to wedding. Most are dull and frumpy. A couple might be ok for work.

https://www.phase-eight.com/product/anabella-midi-dress-10015540785.html I adore this one, too floral for you?

I've seen a lot of pleated dresses which look amazing on. This is a fairly standard one but they come in a sales and sizes

Don't think so, looks well dodge

I've just looked at Little Madam's Trustpilot page - I thought it seemed dodgy from the name and their photos - but have been really impressed by their replies to the few complainants!

Why not use established stores? &OtherStories has loads of suitable dresses for example. Mango too. Zara has plenty I would wear to a wedding. They are in summer colours and nothing like the winter colours the op describes. It makes me wonder where people actually look for clothes?!!

I happened to see this one in store the other day. It's floral, so I realise it's not OP's cup of tea, but might be of interest to other posters who are looking for a dress for summertime weddings/Christenings & garden parties.

Really good quality so I was very surprised by the price tag.

Why are a few people saying little madam looks dodgy? Has anyone ordered anything from them before? I like some things in there but worried now! Trust pilot gives them a 4.8 score - what do we think?

GenieGenealogy · 09/04/2026 09:07

It was me who said it looked dodgy - mainly because the models have been clearly photoshopped into weird locations.

Look at me in my lovely dress standing in front of the oven! https://little-madam.co.uk/collections/dresses-maxi-dresses/products/katrin-blue-floral-chiffon-short-sleeve-belted-maxi-dress

or here's me in the kitchen! https://little-madam.co.uk/collections/dresses-mini-dress/products/dream-girl-black-floral-waterfall-hem-chiffon-midi-dress

It just looks like that they have shot all the photos on a plain background in a studio, and then inserted various random backgrounds of interiors, you see the same background repeated again and again with different models/dresses. All a bit weird.

Katrin Blue Floral Chiffon Short Sleeve Belted Maxi Dress

This pale sky blue floral pleated chiffon maxi dress is stunning with elasticated waist and tie belt. Short flutter angel sleeves. Wedding guest dress, dinner date, graduation dress, occasion dress, party dress, petite dress

Watching with interest as I have a fancy wedding at the end of June to go to a not finding anything for it

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 09/04/2026 09:34

Little Madam looks like a start up with no budget and no idea how to style a photo shoot! Looks amateur.

I’ve seen that blue Whistles leopard print dress worn at a wedding - she looked very elegant. Some great suggestions already including Rixo, and Seamstress of Bloomsbury. I’ve seen some good dresses by Mint Velvet, Hobbs, Brora, Wyse and Aspiga this season.
