Help me dress for posh Denmark summer wedding

I’m lucky to have been invited to the summer wedding of an old friend. Without giving too many outing details, she’s Danish, a top professional in her field, no kids, and is marrying into aristocracy (the wedding is at their family house in the Danish countryside, which resembles a stately home). She’s always been incredibly elegant, wafer thin with a capsule of beautifully chosen clothes in quality fabrics. Amazing hair, teeth, skin, very very little makeup.

Im usually found in jeans and boots but like to think I scrub up well. Stumped as to what to wear though. Don’t want to feel like a dumpy English broad among tall willowy athletic Danes. I definitely don’t want to look like I’ve tried too hard - ideally want to look like I dress up and go to insanely posh weddings all the time!

I also have no idea about what’s customary to wear for a wedding there, does anyone know?

Can anyone recommend where to start with an appropriate outfit for the event?

Classic Falconetti (with shoes that will cope with any muddy grass!).

This is adorable. Maybe one of the shorter TVW dresses would be good, rather than longer?

One of her best looks ... if it's good enough for KM - though a bit much for a daytime wedding? You could add a cardie & welly boots ..!!

This one would be ravishing. Rose print & Vivienne Westwood would be very British ... A bit too big, but worth altering?

And another rose patterned Westwood. https://ebay.us/m/NffRb2
(Isn't it weird that people don't even iron something they want £600 for?!!)

Well, the OP hasn't given her height - or budget! Though her desire not to look dumpy among lots of willowy Danes would imply that she's not 5' 8" or more.

That's what I would consider the threshold for being thought "tall" in the UK - but I think, from my one visit to Denmark, that it's probably quite average there ... & I'm speaking as someone who's 5' 10"!!!

But the more I think about the wedding - & the implication that it's going to full of willowy 6 ft blondes wearing long simple elegant dresses in muted shades - the more I think that the OP shouldn't try to wear something similar?

As she will then inadvertently stand out for wearing the same type of dress as the willowy Danes - but not looking the same (or possibly as good?) in it?

I was going to say similar in terms of not trying to ape Danish style.

Yes, to being aware of levels of formality etc, but stick to something that works for you and represents your style, and don't start flirting with new designers and go in "costume." My parents once asked a German client to a picnic, and he arrived in a stripey blazer like Ratty in the Wind in the Willows. Everyone else was in shorts and t-shirts and he was quite put out as he'd bought the blazer especially!

Countries tend to develop styles because it suits the lifestyle, culture and national body type (to the extent that still exists, but I think it does a bit). Just be Op at a Danish wedding, Op! Not "Danish Op"...

ETA to say equally, I personally wouldn't go wearing a British flag or full-on British eccentric. I'd go for international chic that isn't too "look at me."

Disclaimer: I hate Danish weddings, my own included. They make me want to scratch out my eyes with boredom.

Wear similar to what you would for a British wedding minus the hat or fascinator.

The meal will go on for fucking hours so get something that doesn't press on your stomach. There will be a fuck ton of boring unfunny speeches, there might be a few songs instead of speeches and the waiting staff will bring paper round while every body claps with endless verses on them to incredibly dreary songs which no one ever bothers to sing with any kind of gusto, instead choosing to sing like reluctant teenagers. These boring speeches/songs will end with 3 cheers, sometimes ending in a short or a long one. Hoowah hoowah hoowaaaah. If you're really unlucky there will be unfunny "sketches" too. Eventually the couple will dance the wedding waltz and everyone will circle them and move in closer and closer. Then someone will try and steal the grooms socks.

this is such a good round up

I had blanked out of my memory the comedy songs, full of in jokes that have been personalised for the couple! Even when they can sing, it’s terrible

sweden are also incapable of producing a television program without
someone bursting into some sort of novelty song either.

Scandinavian culture is kitsch and naff. cool Scandinavia is just branding

Are you seriously suggesting no woman under 50 should wear floral? Or that Stine Goya floral is only aimed at women over 50?

No, I am not suggesting it. I love florals. It is just that in Denmark, it appears that a floral pattern is seen as either for children or for women above the age of fifty.

Meanwhile, I just recently looked with envy at some rainproof jackets for small girls. They were pink and had ladybugs on them!

It can be difficult to find colourful clothes in Denmark. The shops are very fond of beige, brown, grey, and black. It is better now than it used to be, but still very annoying. I will often shop for clothes when I am on vacation, as I like red and blue.
