The perfect travel jumpsuit?

ChaoticNeutralMum · 08/03/2026 07:46

Morning! Just booked our summer holiday and with the miserable weather I’m already daydreaming about the airport.

Tenerife in August with DP, 18m old and 6yr old, so comfort is key as the toddler will almost certainly spend half the time climbing on me.

I love jumpsuits as they’re so easy and can feel put together with little effort, but Ive never travelled in one.

I’m thinking something lightweight, elasticated waist maybe with loose legs. I’m 5’1 so ideally cuffed ankles as otherwise things trail unless specifically petite/short or I snip fabric off the end 😅

I’m currently around a UK 12/14 with a big bust, so ideally something forgiving at the top. I’m also hoping to lose a bit of weight by August 🤞so something with a bit of flexibility in sizing would be a massive bonus. One of our flights is an ungodly hr too so im thinking about how to go from cool to hot in the same outfit.

What do we think?

Any recommendations very welcome.

Thank you

I find that unlike trousers when you go to the loo that you can keep off the floor, the extra weight in a jumpsuit ie the top weighs it down and more hits the floor. I also find sitting there in my bra so without a top on a bit odd.

@Satsuma55 what is the sizing like on that Cider jumpsuit? Thanks!

I would say they are true to size....I'm a 12, I get a 12.
Honestly, I've had many jumpsuits in my time, and this is the best.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/03/2026 13:53

I’ve got that cider jumpsuit. I literally could not find a way on earth to get in or out of the damn thing do I had to get my clever dressmaker to put an invisible zip in the side seam. Other than that it’s great!

There's already a zip in it.

You need to think about the toilet situation on a plane/public loo

This.

I LOVE a jumpsuit but have had many occasions to regret wearing one when faced with public transport and/or loos. How about nice leggings/joggers with a t shirt or sweatshirt? If you think you’ll be too hot you could always go for a pair of thin cotton trousers and a cotton top?

Satsuma55 · 09/03/2026 15:03

The Cider jumpsuit....the perfect jumpsuit.

Classic Mumsnet, OP asks for recommendations for a jumpsuit and instead she gets a pile on of people saying 'Why on earth would you wear a jumpsuit, wear this instead!' OP for what it's worth I've worn a jumpsuit on a plane with absolutely no issues. Sweaty Betty have some lovely ones
https://www.sweatybetty.com/archive-sale/explorer-jumpsuit-SB6824_Black.html

I always travel in sweaty Betty Explorer. I have 4 that I bought just for travel.

Easy to take on and off
cooling fabric
do not need ironing
dry quickly
comfortable

I buy them on ebay or vinted

OhDear111 · 09/03/2026 15:46

I guess those of us who fly know what a hassle the loos can be. The op is wrapped up in her issues so isn’t open to other ideas. So why bother asking really. Somewhat pointless when she’s stuck in her opinion and everyone else is wrong.

franklymydearscarlett · 09/03/2026 16:13

Jumpsuits are fine for travel. they are fine for me as I don’t need to pee all the time. Many many women do, or are anxious that they will need to, so you always get these reactions about jumpsuit. For some people they are fine.

OP I’ve had good ones from Phase eight and weirdly, Very. They do some good casual jersey ones in their own brand.

OhDear111 · 09/03/2026 12:47

@ChaoticNeutralMum What’s wrong with cotton trousers with an elastic waist and layers on top? Who is looking at whether you are dumpy or not? It’s a flight. I’ve virtually never seen anyone on a flight in a jump suit. Just too awkward and when dc spill something down you - what then? There’s a reason why most wear separates!

You’ve clocked what every single person on a flight is wearing, on every flight you’ve taken? Don’t be ridiculous. Plenty of people wear jumpsuits to travel, including many on this thread.

But the OP literally asked for jumpsuit recommendations. She didn't say 'what should I wear to fly in', did she?

ElizaCBennett · 09/03/2026 16:45

My dungarees and from Apache, nice and loose 😊

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 09/03/2026 17:32

I travel in jumpsuits all the time. I have no problem in plane loos. They don't trail on the floor at all.

These were all the rage on MN a few years ago. I had them in several colours.

There wasn’t in mine. Mine is about 4 years old though. Literally I nearly dislocated my shoulder trying to get into it.

I might wear mine tomorrow now I’ve thought about it. It’s such a lovely colour.

Oh, yes that would be a problem. They defo have zips now, I have one from last year and one from the year before.

She didn’t ask your opinion on whether or not to wear a jumpsuit. She already knows she wants to. She even said a couple of times that she’s heard the toilet comments but she still wants to wear a jump suit.

She asked for suggestions on what jumpsuit to get.

And as for “wrapped up in her issues” have you read the OP’s reasons why she might find a jumpsuit more comfortable and suitable for her? I suggest you do before you make any more snitty comments like that.

As for the “those of us who fly” comment. Ffs get over yourself. I flew in a jumpsuit last Thursday if that helps you at all 🙄

HappyFace2025 · 08/03/2026 07:51

First post nails it.

Yup. I immediately thought "what about the loo on the plane?"

Calliopespa · 09/03/2026 22:13

Do you sit on the loo seat?

I can't bring myself to sit on a plane loo seat so my hands are occupied making sure I don't get "turbulenced" off target.

Last time I was in there, I actually found myself thinking there must be quite a number of people who don't actually fit in a short haul flight cubicle.

Pipsquiggle · 09/03/2026 22:16

ChaoticNeutralMum · 08/03/2026 10:20

Ok thank you for the input on toilets, ladies. Your points have been taken on board.

I, and clearly a number of other posters, seem to manage to navigate them just fine without getting them covered in piss though, it must be a skill. I think picking the right style is key, hence the actual point of the post.

I’ve appreciated some of the helpful posts on actual designs. The easy peezy ones are interesting. Will look further into that. Thank you

I always have a bloody nightmare with jumpsuits in loos

I always have a bloody nightmare in the loo full-stop.

ETA I mean, only on planes and trains!

It's the not wanting to sit combined with the unexpected bumps and the floor already covered in misfires, that I am trying not to add to in case the next poor person has to juggle a jumpsuit.

And then people always push at the door and the concertina bit in the middle gives the impression it might give way and I shall be revealed grasping the walls and hovering above the loo seat. At least my top half is covered because I am not in a jumpsuit.

trainedopossum · 09/03/2026 23:16

I fly in jumpsuits. In the loo you take your arms out of the sleeves and as you pull it down you tuck the sleeves and collar into the legs. If it’s chilly I layer something (vest, thermals) underneath rather than a cardigan or whatever on top. If the underneath layer has sleeves it should be silky so the jumpsuit sleeves don’t catch on it. Works for me.

Some jumpsuits are hard to get in and out of and I wouldn’t buy one of those. Front fastenings only.

My absolute favourite for travel (and Pilates) is the Nooworks Magic Suit but I don’t think they make the solid colours anymore and the prints are too mad for me.

BigGra · 08/03/2026 13:25

Yep was going to suggest same.
I always travel in Sweaty Betty Gary jumpsuit.

Stretchy waist and the upper body piece just rolls down to your thigh and cuffed ankles so nothing drags on the ground.
Really comfortable for travelling.

Yep, Gary jumpsuits from Sweaty Betty here too, so comfy and easy to wear. They've stopped doing that particular style but worth keeping an eye out on website for updated version

auserna · 10/03/2026 03:57

pokemoan · 08/03/2026 08:48

Jersey jumpsuits are quite hard to pull off.

Personally I prefer separates and layers as I get cold on planes and I’m tall so find the toilets pretty cramped.

Literally or figuratively?

Disgusting comment. After what the OP shared with us.

OP, I am a regular flyer and have worn all sorts. For me the most comfortable outfit I’ve ever worn was a jumpsuit. I had no problem using the toilet whatsoever. I felt as good leaving the plane after 12 hours as I did boarding it. Another vote for Sweaty Betty jumpsuits!

From now on, whenever I see another jumpsuit traveller, I shall give them a solemn nod to acknowledge we have overcome cold top halfs, floors awash with piss and the snarky judgment of the separate top and bottoms brigade to emerge in triumphant comfortable splendour.
