The perfect travel jumpsuit?

ChaoticNeutralMum · 08/03/2026 07:46

Morning! Just booked our summer holiday and with the miserable weather I’m already daydreaming about the airport.

Tenerife in August with DP, 18m old and 6yr old, so comfort is key as the toddler will almost certainly spend half the time climbing on me.

I love jumpsuits as they’re so easy and can feel put together with little effort, but Ive never travelled in one.

I’m thinking something lightweight, elasticated waist maybe with loose legs. I’m 5’1 so ideally cuffed ankles as otherwise things trail unless specifically petite/short or I snip fabric off the end 😅

I’m currently around a UK 12/14 with a big bust, so ideally something forgiving at the top. I’m also hoping to lose a bit of weight by August 🤞so something with a bit of flexibility in sizing would be a massive bonus. One of our flights is an ungodly hr too so im thinking about how to go from cool to hot in the same outfit.

What do we think?

Any recommendations very welcome.

Thank you

Sorry to put a spanner in the works, but have you considered wrestling with a jumpsuit in an aircraft loo?

Why are people so obsessed with plane toilets? It’s a short flight, just go before you board. Hope you find a nice jumpsuit, have a lovely holiday.

Because they've had the experience of needing to use it unexpectedly? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also it's not just your behavior on the plane that can cause wardrobe issues. I've had ice cream dropped on me from the kid in seat next to me (not my kid). And I've seen others get drinks spilled on them. None of these are fun to deal with and will be harder to deal with if your wearing an all in one.

Satsuma55 · 09/03/2026 08:45

they are called jumpsuits because you can wear them whilst jumping out of a plane.

Only problem is that helmet needs to go in the hold. 😀

No, not one person has considered this in the 24 hours this thread has been running (apart from 90% of PPs).

I think everyone has a different tolerance to germs. I'm a germaphobe and the thought of my jumpsuit brushing against any surface in a toilet while travelling gives me the ick. I do get that other people might have a higher threshold for that.

I still maintain that separates would almost certainly look better and be more comfortable than all these suggestions.

I wasn’t only thinking of the germ aspect alone (although that does come into it), also getting half naked in a confined space to have a wee.

@ChaoticNeutralMum What’s wrong with cotton trousers with an elastic waist and layers on top? Who is looking at whether you are dumpy or not? It’s a flight. I’ve virtually never seen anyone on a flight in a jump suit. Just too awkward and when dc spill something down you - what then? There’s a reason why most wear separates!

AlbieJiggered · 09/03/2026 13:08

I wouldn't wear a jumpsuit but I might take dungarees, because I'd wear a t-shirt underneath it.
A jumpsuit is effectively a top and a bottom, and I wouldn't want to wear it of it was dirty.

Who’s looking? ME!! I’m looking and I don’t like what I see!! I also don’t like trousers digging into my waist. Ive been through a lot physically in the last 2 years where I almost died in childbirth, was in a bloody coma, had to have therapy, my weight has fluctuated from overweight to underweight and back to overweight again. I want to enjoy myself and feel good in my skin for a change and I love jumpsuits.

I get it, a lot of people dont, a lot of people find them hard to navigate. Clearly there’s plenty who don’t. I want nothing touching my belly or digging into me, it gives me my skin crawl right now, it makes me think of the unbearable pain I spent my entire pregnancy in.

I didn’t think all of that was relevant because I just wanted some suggestions from people who have (and clearly there are some) come across some they’ve enjoyed wearing to travel.

And before I get the ‘well I was just saying’, I have been saying repeatedly fine you guys don’t like them I am looking for options from those who do and still people just go on and on and on and tell me it doesn’t matter do for something else, it’ll be pissy etc etc etc and on and on.

It matters to me!! Can’t people just drop it already?!

If you don't want something tight touching your waist why not just wear a dress? I often wear a casual dress on the plane with leggings. Then take the leggings off before landing in hot country! Works well.

ChaoticNeutralMum · 09/03/2026 13:28

I’m going to unwatch this thread now as it’s now just making feel upset and must be hitting a nerve.

I didn’t event post in AIBU, I posted in style hoping I would get suggestions rather than constant derails but people seem to have real trouble considering their experience isn’t the only experience available.

Thank you to those who have given me some great suggestions, I’ll be going through them all and I’ve genuinely appreciated your input.

It sounds like you have had a really awful time and it is totally understandable that you don't want things digging in or reminding you of pregnancy. I guess the issue will be finding a jumpsuit that doesnt do that as a lot come in at the waist (mine do anyway) but I am sure there will be something for you.

AlbieJiggered · 09/03/2026 13:34

This is the sort I wear. Original - Cotton Dungarees in Dark Olive – Lucy & Yak

You slide the straps over your shoulders to take them off/on.

Thank you, I see what you’re saying and I think for me there’s a difference between a bit of elasticated waist that’s esstially just touching me and pulling fabric in to an actual waist band that can dig in when siting down or stretch tighter if I’ve eaten etc. Appreciate it’s a bit of a strange quirk at the moment and I am still working through things with CBT, maybe this won’t be so much of an issue in future. It’s not like I avoid trousers, I wear jeans. I just can’t relax. I actually don’t mind wearing tracksuits etc as they do tend to be relaxed around the waist, but I don’t feel comfortable travelling in them and never have, I’m pretty sure I’m not about to start now. Thanks for your point of view though.

Thank you, I like dresses but find them impractical with a toddler (yep, even more than a jumpsuit it seems). Whilst travelling maxi dresses have too much material to manipulate and I’m short so they can crowd me a bit anyway and midi or shorter dresses inevitably end up with me accidentally flashing someone.
I found when my eldest was about 3 dresses became much more do-able when travelling, I look forward to getting there again.

Don’t do it. I wore on on a flight and the toilet situation was a nightmare

@Satsuma55 what is the sizing like on that Cider jumpsuit? Thanks!

I’ve got that cider jumpsuit. I literally could not find a way on earth to get in or out of the damn thing do I had to get my clever dressmaker to put an invisible zip in the side seam. Other than that it’s great!

RunLyraRun · 09/03/2026 13:55

This is getting a bit "cancel the cheque". Clearly most people are not RTBT.

Sending solidarity, @ChaoticNeutralMum. I hate a waistband, I love a jumpsuit, they really suit me and make me feel effortlessly put together in a way that separates do not, and I find them comfy and practical for travelling - yes, including on planes. I don't have any current suggestions but I'm gleaning ideas from the ones posted here. Try to ignore the endless toilet posts! 🙄

BitOutOfPractice · 09/03/2026 14:00

Oh @ChaoticNeutralMum I’m sorry to hear what a tough time you’ve had. It sounds horrendous and I hope you can come to some sort of terms with it all at some point.

I also feel your utter frustration with the scores of people talking about the fecking toilets. Either rtft or even just the OP’s people! S&B can be just as brutal as AIBU sometimes!

I hope you find something tremendous and have a lovely stylish holiday!

Ifyounevergiveup · 09/03/2026 14:01

With apologies if this has already been mentioned but I’m the same frame as you and travelling in a jumpsuit (elasticised neck, no buttons or faff) was a revelation. Try Kim &Co on qvc.co.uk. She does loads of styles and colours and also does petite lengths. Best thing about QVC is you can wear it, wash it, trial it properly so you know it’s what you want, and you still have sixty (yes, sixty!) days to return it if it’s not right.

good luck with joining the jumpsuit converts!

mcmuffin22 · 09/03/2026 14:04

BigBurrata · 08/03/2026 12:11

Not exactly a jumpsuit, but these White Stuff cotton jersey dungarees look quite comfortable:

Dungarees

I think dungarees are easier too. Especially quite loose ones where you can just slip the straps off each arm and pull them down as you would normal trousers. Otherwise I'm afraid I agree re jumpsuits in tiny loos on planes. Same applies for portaloos at festivals.

CopeNorth · 09/03/2026 14:09

Dopkin · 08/03/2026 07:50

You need to think about the toilet situation on a plane/public loo

Exactly this. I love a jumpsuit but if you mean for the airport/flight/travel then not for me. Means you have to take off any jacket etc to go to the toilet and it’s potentially touching the public toilet floors. Maybe save it for holiday evenings

BitOutOfPractice · 09/03/2026 14:16

Christonabike @CopeNorth and @mcmuffin22 you only have to read maybe 3 posts back to see that this constant toilet talk is a. Boring and repetitive and b. Has driven the op away. You don’t even have to rtft to see that!

But thanks for the benefit of your totally irrelevant and unoriginal wisdom.
