The perfect travel jumpsuit?

ChaoticNeutralMum · 08/03/2026 07:46

Morning! Just booked our summer holiday and with the miserable weather I’m already daydreaming about the airport.

Tenerife in August with DP, 18m old and 6yr old, so comfort is key as the toddler will almost certainly spend half the time climbing on me.

I love jumpsuits as they’re so easy and can feel put together with little effort, but Ive never travelled in one.

I’m thinking something lightweight, elasticated waist maybe with loose legs. I’m 5’1 so ideally cuffed ankles as otherwise things trail unless specifically petite/short or I snip fabric off the end 😅

I’m currently around a UK 12/14 with a big bust, so ideally something forgiving at the top. I’m also hoping to lose a bit of weight by August 🤞so something with a bit of flexibility in sizing would be a massive bonus. One of our flights is an ungodly hr too so im thinking about how to go from cool to hot in the same outfit.

What do we think?

Any recommendations very welcome.

Thank you

I had to ask someone in the ladies’ in the Ritz to help me do up a very nice jumpsuit. I wouldn’t be wearing one in a plane.

If it’s a jersey, strappy or stretchy one not sure it would be that hard to use the toilet? DP will be there (actually my mum and brother too) so plenty of adults to hold little one so can go on my own and if easy to slip down it wouldn’t be much different to having to hold lose trousers up.

Am I missing something? (Genuinely asking as only issue I've had with using the toilet and jumpsuits have been with structured ones or ones with lots of buttons)

But your trousers don't have a top part/sleeves that may dangle down , so unless you want to spend more time faffing about in the plane loo ensuring that you have picked up every dangling bit (comapred to trousers), they are more of a faff.

This looks great, thank you

“travel jumpsuit” is an oxymoron.

Quite. My first thought was, "one with poppers at the crotch" 😆Just wear pull on trousers and a top - a co ord, for example.

ChaoticNeutralMum · 08/03/2026 11:39

I think I’m just going to have to ignore the toilet posts from now on because people are either being deliberately obtuse or missing the bit where of course I’m not going to choose a button up, zip up, belted, long sleeved or scraping along the floor jumpsuit and am specifically looking for one that would be more practical in this instance, which clearly exists as a number of good options have been presented.

Like I said, I’ve navigated them before without too much trouble. Some are indeed impractical for going to the loo, not all are created equal…hence the point of the post.

I’m fairly agile and don’t currently have issues with excessive urination. If I end up with the shits in a 4.5h window then I’ll probably have bigger issues to worry about.

Anything else on going to the bloody toilet is just a derail at this point.

Often travelled in a jumpsuit - no problems experienced with it falling on the floor in the toilet. Always surprised how some people never actually go to the toilet on a plane journey, notice this as I prefer an aisle seat. Will be looking at the suggestions as I love a jumpsuit they are so comfortable like a baby gro.

BeWildPearlFish · 08/03/2026 12:11

I'm off on holiday soon and i think my travelling outfit is sorted now too!

Digbyscolleague · 08/03/2026 12:12

I wear jumpsuits to travel all the time. I’m 5ft 3 so tend to wear cropped ones. Fatface do good wrap jumpsuits. You can pop a vest underneath and just take off from the shoulders. It’s not sitting on the floor any more than your trousers do on a plane.

UninitendedShark · 08/03/2026 12:14

Hush do a few different jersey jumpsuits. Look on John Lewis.

mismomary · 08/03/2026 12:18

I love a travel jumpsuit!! I go for short sleeves or strappy with t shirt underneath. I go for anthropology usually but wait for a sale. All this fuss about the loo is nonsense. SO comfortable and look great with jewellery, sliders etc.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/03/2026 12:18

I absolutely do not understand why mn is so convinced that jumpsuit wearers just let them slosh about in piss when having a wee. Why are they any different from trousers on that respect?

@ChaoticNeutralMum i travel in jumpsuits on planes a lot. I LOVE a jumpsuit.

I have one from sweaty better that ticks all your boxes. Have you had a look on there. Wait for the sale then pounce!

ChaoticNeutralMum · 08/03/2026 09:06

They look great, thanks!

Came here to recommend you look at them. Easy Pee-sy or a name like that. I don’t have one personally as they weren’t long enough (unless they’ve started doing their Extra Tall in them).

The issue with getting out of a jumpsuit in a plane loo is the lack of space for wiggling elbows out, rather than fabric trailing on the floor.

BubbleFree · 08/03/2026 12:26

What a palaver over someone asking about a jumpsuit 🤣. I’m trying to work out how some people manage to get their clothes sloshing about in pee in aircraft toilets.

nottodayfgs · 08/03/2026 12:37

I have the hotshot jumpsuit - available at M&S and it’s the world’s most comfortable item of clothing. Wear it with a long- or short-sleeved t-shirt underneath, and a slouchy cardi over. I have never dipped it in pee 🙄

Classic Mumsnet, OP asks for recommendations for a jumpsuit and instead she gets a pile on of people saying 'Why on earth would you wear a jumpsuit, wear this instead!' OP for what it's worth I've worn a jumpsuit on a plane with absolutely no issues. Sweaty Betty have some lovely ones
https://www.sweatybetty.com/archive-sale/explorer-jumpsuit-SB6824_Black.html

I have this and took it round Central America and washed it out in sinks where it dried quickly and didn't crease. It's great and it can be dressed up if necessary.

This is me, I have never used the toilet on a plane😂

Advocodo · 08/03/2026 13:21

I wear a jumpsuit from Cotton Traders of all places when I go on a plane. As you say it just feels an easy thing to wear. The toilet situation is @ pit of a pain though but I will continue to wear mine!

BigGra · 08/03/2026 13:25

imadeitnice · 08/03/2026 08:44

I have two “Gary” sweaty Betty jumpsuits that I always wear to travel in. Really comfortable and look nice. I don’t think they still sell that style but maybe worth looking at their site.

Yep was going to suggest same.
I always travel in Sweaty Betty Gary jumpsuit.

Stretchy waist and the upper body piece just rolls down to your thigh and cuffed ankles so nothing drags on the ground.
Really comfortable for travelling.

UglyJumper · 08/03/2026 13:33

Not practical but so pretty 😊

DanaScullysLegoHair · 08/03/2026 14:03

Don't know if anyone has said Fat Face. They do some lyocell ones that fit well and have short sleeves and a cropped leg.

Usually a fair few on Vinted. I find the sizing quite generous.

Sidebeforeself · 08/03/2026 14:07

ChaoticNeutralMum · 08/03/2026 10:20

Ok thank you for the input on toilets, ladies. Your points have been taken on board.

I, and clearly a number of other posters, seem to manage to navigate them just fine without getting them covered in piss though, it must be a skill. I think picking the right style is key, hence the actual point of the post.

I’ve appreciated some of the helpful posts on actual designs. The easy peezy ones are interesting. Will look further into that. Thank you

There’s no need to be snarky. People were just pointing out that in their experience a jump suit would be impractical.

MrsClattenburg · 08/03/2026 15:15

@ChaoticNeutralMum wasn't being snarky, just annoyed that 50+ of the posts ars banging on about toilets when she has said it will be fine and won't be an issue (FWIW, I'm also a non-toilet-user when on a plane!)

Thanks for the thread, I've now put the Shein on in my basket for my holiday in May 😍

You need to think about the toilet situation on a plane/public loo

This.

A definite no, together with wide leg trousers.

nothingeverhappensinstmarymead · 08/03/2026 15:25

I have an amazingly comfortable jumpsuit from Boody that is surprisingly flattering (I’m probably a size 14 and feel ok in it even without a shirt). I was just debating whether I could get away with it on a long haul flight this week, though on balance agree with others that there’s a high risk of trailing fabric. It’s worth looking at though as a super useful travel jumpsuit. Also packs up very small and doesn’t crease!
