Currently swooning over most things in ME+EM. Why oh why does it have to be so nice but soooo expensive

ive been to the store in Manchester and do have a couple of items but I could literally buy so much more if only I could afford it

does anyone have any cheaper alternative that are just a gorgeous?

Sessun might be a good/cheaper alternative.

I had never heard of Sessùn, so thanks for the tip. They look quite interesting but (not sure why) don’t immediately have the appeal of Me and Em for me. Always great to discover new brands…..

FlindersKeepers · 05/03/2026 15:58

I am looking forward to nipping in to the Edinburgh store tomorrow as I do like some of their stuff, but am shorter and the mark-up in € is crazy. £100 tops become 150€ instead of the current exchange rate of 115€. I also like Reiss and Tory Burch for work, Toteme has crappy fabrics in my experience.
Oh and I am in tech, over 50, trilingual, in an international NGO, use public transportation, and live online - their colours don't all work for me but do read well on screen.

Klements site doesn't give the dress length. According to Wolf and Badger it is 140cm. That's 55". I'm 63" or 160 cm Even allowing for head from centre of neck a 140cm dress isn't gong to trail. It's long ankle length and even low heels will make it "shorter"

The Casey Casey dress I linked is 126cm or 49.6 inches.

Do you (general you) think brands are producing clothes which only a tiny proportion of women can wear?

It does on most of its dresses and are within a range. Just click on some others, at 140 cm, so two below what I said , hold a tape measure up to you, thay is absolutely goijg to trail on the floor for a 5 foot 3 woman.

I'm not posting photos of myself on here. They do not trail on the pavement but please carry on telling me I'm wrong about dresses I own and that several nurses don't know how use a measuring machine.

watchingthishtread · 05/03/2026 17:55

FlindersKeepers, Selfridges have a selection of Me+Em on their website. They usually offer a much more realistic £ to € conversation. Eg. look at the jumpsuits attached. Same jumpsuit. The lower price is Selfridges.

A lot of UK brands are fleecing EU customers with mind boggling markups. I just won't pay it.

Here's the model
One of these is me the same style of flat boot as she's wearing and the other is me in a pair of kitten heel boots of about 4 cm heel. You can clearly see the top of the boots and a space between the hem and the floor. If anything it's longer on the model. It's ridiculous to keep on insisting you know better than the person wearing the dress.

The dress is not 140cm it's 135 cm

The "only look good on 6'model" stance means you (general you) never take a chance on any thing outside your comfort zone. And why would brands make clothes which had such a limited market?.

PhaedraWas · 05/03/2026 20:21

Pictures. This is why I'm sceptical about the information on websites - take a chance.

Sigh….why are we derailing a fab thread full of Me and Em goodies quibbling over another brand’s dress length? Who cares?

Wore these to work today. Comfy and so nice on. I bought them after trying some from cos that were hideous, poorly cut and didn't fit right. They were less than half the price and quality was poor comparatively.

They’re gorgeous!

sociableintrovert123 · 05/03/2026 21:57

@IreoluI have these in navy and love them. They are so comfy and flattering.

Umbilicat · 05/03/2026 23:02

But do they trail on the ground?

They are really lovely, same tailoring cut as their jeans and other trousers, it’s so flattering on.

I'm sorry for the derail but as LadyLovesShallots and Notsosweetcaroline are determined to confidently post that they know better than the owner of the dress they're you go.

The "oh it'll only suit the 6' model' nonsense which gets posted on here puts people off trying anything new. Take a chance.

Me + Em dresses are not too long on me. I haven't tried trousers. The 2 blouses I bought are sized ridiculously large. Had I bought them online I'd have ordered a 14. In the shop I sized down to a 1O, might even have gone to an 8.

I have been following the argument about dresses trailing on the ground, and I am not joining in, but it did occur to me that most models seem to be fairly flat chested, and for anyone with bigger boobs, this will ‘use up’ some of the material of the dress, effectively shortening it, and possibly that is why the dresses are not as long on some of us as they would be in theory just going on length measurements? Just a friendly thought! 😄

I was thinking that , when I was heavier my clothes were shorter on me, as the material was basically lifted up, and also depending on size worn, so some manufacturers make the smaller sizes shorter, and the bigger sizes longer, and if you wear a smaller size than you are, especially in oversized clothes, but you’re bigger, the material is taken up and it come up shorter.

either way, I also thought a friendly discussion and I was just curious about it as in my experience clothes are normally in line with the measurements on the website, not normally not in line with it, as the poster indicated.

this does seem to be a much shorter dress though than their normal offering.

Sesma · 06/03/2026 08:27

ME+EM is probably for those about 5'6" to 5'8" if those wide leg trousers upthread are their general sizing in 30" and 32" leg.

You weren't just curious and it wasn't friendly. You and Shallot Lady wrote as if I were an idiot who hadn't noticed her dress was trailing on the ground behind her. I have 2 of the Dusk dresses, neither trail and 2 in another style that are longish mid calf.

The discrepancy may well be due to my being bigger than the model. I'm usually a size 14, not particularly busy, a c or d cup but depending on brands and styles within brands, can be a 12 or even a 10 or a 16. This is not unique to Klements - Casey Casey, Sister Jane, Eponine, Batsheva - all brands declared at some stage to be only suitable for 6 ft models are fine.
Oh and I don't wear a "smaller size than I am" - trying to cram into a dress that's too tight looks awful and makes everyone look bigger than they are.

I'm a 10 in Me + Em"s sizing for the 2 blouses I bought. If the measurements on their website are for bust at fullest they're wildly inaccurate and a 10 shouldn't fit, whereas the 10s are a good fit on both, even slightly loose on the white.

Ok wow, I think tone can be misinterpreted, but can I ask you to drop it as you’re really derailing a fun thread with angrier and angrier posts. No offence was intended and none of my posts were angry or aggressive.

Try reading your own posts. You were so dismissive. You don't own any Klements yet confidently posted that I was wrong.

Me + Em's sizing website isn't accurate either. From my one experience of buying from them if I buy again it will have to be in store.

WhiskyandWater · 06/03/2026 09:40

I find Me and Em true to size apart from in the jersey where I size down. Maybe I’m a bit fatter than I think I am 😂
I’m 5’8 and I find it long, I rarely wear heels and find the trousers get caught on the floor at the back - it feels expensive to take up by a cm though.
I do have quite a lot one only one mistake so far, a lovely silk halter top that just feels a bit too try hard when I wear it. I’ve seen the same look fantastic on others though so I just need to play a bit more. Maybe I should have been brave and got the matching trousers and gone all out.

PhaedraWas · 06/03/2026 10:11

Their blouses make me smaller than I think I am. If I'm a 10 in their white cotton blouse goodness knows who the size 18 is for. I tried a dress in store, didn't buy it but had to size down and was still loose over bust.

BIossomtoes · 06/03/2026 10:51

Vanity sizing is rife across a lot of brands. That’s the main reason my wardrobe contains garments that all fit me labelled from 10 to 16.

Tummytroublesagain1 · 06/03/2026 10:53

Nine pages into a thread that I created just to share my love of the clothes (but not always the cost 😂) Posts have made me laugh, others have shared their clothes which they love and have inspired me to buy/try an item that I previously wouldn't have considered (I'm talking to the poster with the fabulous jeans)

But I've been dismayed to hear, I assume, fellow women, pull each other down as they believe that ME+EM is trying to make us all cover up, that wearing their clothes ensures that jobs we have are stifled to to mid level management because it means they won't cause trouble. A picture I shared of a blouse I own was called just horrible. I mean is there any need???

We are sometimes our biggest enemies, clothes are meant to make us feel good, empower us, regardless of the cost. Pulling each other down this way only holds us all back.

I am and will always be a womans champion - we have enough hurdles to jump out there without tripping each other up.

I'm getting off my soap box now, and waiting for my new dress to arrive from ME+EM - i'm only 5ft 1 so will report back on how long it actually is 😂 (I do have mashoosive boobs though so that may notch it up a bit)
