Abel laundry day. Confusingly, not a laundry scent. Its like someone sprayed a can of fanta in my face. But in a nice way.

Fugazzi angel dust for me today. I loved this when I first tried it, so I bought 5 more samples of it on cult beauty but now I'm not too bothered about it 🤣 it's nice but it doesn't feel like it's long lasting or has much projection.

TragicMuse · 14/05/2026 08:40

It’s Matiere Vanilla Powder today! I do like this!

oh @Beachtastic I loved Rive Gauche! I have a new can and couldn’t think why it wasn’t the same as my 40+ years ago memory but of course it’s the missing oakmoss. I should have known, it’s the common thread in all my old favourites.

IDontHateRainbows · 14/05/2026 09:02

After putting on Abel Laundry day I realised I needed a shower and it's washed off so I've replaced it with Vyrao Sun Rae - another uplifting citrussy one but not to sharp and with some herbs and spices (ginger, tumeric) to keep it interesting.
I haven't liked many Vyraos, they are a strange house, but I do like this one. This and I am verdant the best of the bunch but none I have really ever fallen in love with.

Yes, oakmoss seems to be the common thread in my favourites too. Estee Lauder's Knowing was a happy discovery (airport duty free), but I keep it stashed at the back of the cupboard as a guilty pleasure - DH isn't keen, and a few tiny molecules of spray seem to project for hours! I wish all perfumes had that richness, they all seem to be weak EDTs now... I'm kicking myself for having given away a large bottle of 1980s Chanel 19 perfume because I suddenly decided I no longer wore it (it used to be my signature scent).

Did anyone else go mad for perfumes around the COVID era? I feel as though I never took such an interest in them until lockdown, and now I'm a complete maniac. Maybe it was a bit of escapism - scent transporting you to an imaginary place. Or maybe to do with the way COVID affects the sense of smell? I've read that you can coax it back with "smell training" - the NHS Scotland site advises this for smell loss post COVID. Not that I knew anything about that when browsing Fragrantica like a loon, but perhaps I can justify the blind buys (~10% success rate) as a form of self-medication!!!!!!

SOTD Zara Livre Blanc, lovely clean cotton and musk. This is the one that reminds me of the dry cleaners, super cosy and comforting.

OMG!!!!! I just ordered some Givenchy III and it's all your fault 😜
I always used to spray the testers in department stores 😍

Mum wore Fidji too, sadly I have no idea what happened to her old bottles of it.

IDontHateRainbows · 15/05/2026 07:43

Boadicea Lannosea, I really like this on a morning, it's bright and sparkly, a bit like the weather at the moment 🌞

Lurkingshark · 15/05/2026 09:38

@IDontHateRainbows what was in the last parfum muse samples? I’m tempted!

On boy smells, I enjoyed woodphoria and it’s on a long list of sandalwoods. I enjoyed many of their old ones but not tested much of new ones.

Happy to take that blame! I adore Givenchy III!

Me too! I hope the new formulation is at least slightly like the old one 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻but apparently it streamlines the complex 1970 pyramid into three core elments (hyacinth, orris and patchouli), so god knows, really. I'll soon find out... prices vary wildly online: £116 direct from Givenchy, or at Harrods (surprise!), but £71.78 here 🤩

So the parfum muse samples deal is definitely worth it given there's no min spend.

Inside is a billy eilish 2 dabber (7.5ml) 3 x BDK 2ml ( impadia, gris charnel, 312 st honore) about 3 les eaux primordiales, and a selection of 1.5ml elie saab/banana republic/ orabella and some random ones. About 16 in total.

Given that the cheapest thing you can buy to get the deal is around £10, plus postage of £5 it's not bad.

I may or may not have gone mad and bought a few separate cheap things in different transactions!

Also bought the les eaux primordiales discovery set to get the deal, this was a bit more expensive at £25 but has 6 x 2ml in the kit. Tried Vanilla Supermassive - very nice reminds me of gentle fluidity gold.

I have bought woodphoria, violet ends, hinoki fantome and then got coco creme as a freebie. With £10 ndugle points it came to £68 for 4 so what, £17 each?

Talking of oakmoss fragrances sent me off on another hunt for an old favourite that was discontinued: IsaBella (by Isabella Rossellini). Hooray, I managed to get a 30 mL unused bottle on eBay! 🥳💃🏻🎈 🎉🎊
...but it comes with a 200 mL body lotion, which I'm never going to use. Does anyone else want the lotion? PM me if you'd like it - I could post it to your local collection point or something 🌞

Here's the Fragrantica profile:
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Isabella-Rossellini/IsaBella-1490.html

At the time (around 2004, so before Fragrantica etc), I thought of it vaguely as a sort of sexy "chocolatey" smell - I suppose that's the tonka bean and tobacco (?).

Be warned that one of the Fragrantica reviews says "the lotion smelled sharper, spicier and fruitier, irritating to some extent" 🤣 but who knows?!

V excited to be getting my hot little hands on this one again! I've moved house too often in the past couple of decades, and many treasures have been lost in all the upheaval.

Scent of the day part 8 - the friendly perfumistas will make you smell GREAT!
Beachtastic · 15/05/2026 16:52

Oh!! the penny has finally dropped that this thread is about what you're wearing today - sorry!

So mine today is Miller Harris's Wander Through the Parks. It sort of smells like a dusty pile of nettles next to a compost heap on a hot day. I love it, but I guess not many people do as it was discounted in TK Maxx!

My taste in perfumes seems fairly one-track, I might as well just go and roll in a haystack and save myself the £££

Lurkingshark · 15/05/2026 17:07

😂 @Beachtastic musings on perfume are welcome! I don’t think I could identify oak moss but I see it as a note everywhere

I have had a few miller Harris bargains in tkmaxx - rose en noir and a travel
size fruity one that I forget.

..and one parfum muse gift bag on the way. I’m tempted by another but I keep have to remind myself how long it takes to use up 30ml..

@JoRaRaRa me too! I find lannosea quite mellow for a lemony fragrance. It's also rather subtle for my tastes. My guilty pleasure is being "gaudily" fragranced. I have to dial it right back at work (not an environment for vivid scents), so enjoy my bold fragrances in the privacy of my own home 😂

MotherWol · 15/05/2026 18:19

@IDontHateRainbows is the Billie Eilish mini the same headless boob-lady as the full size? I don’t know how I’d feel about having that out on the shelf!

I got the billie eilish body spray thought it woukd have resale value. I got the less eaux discovery kit the first time.

There are some massive awful cheap bottles in outlet which I could donate to the tombola at work if it doesn't sell.

Thanks @IDontHateRainbows for highlighting the Parfum muse offer, I placed an order yesterday for a perfume that will be donated and they sent me a £5 gift card so may have placed another order today.
