Are these two dresses dated for workwear?

I know “if you like it, wear it “ but also I was loved the era of a power Galaxy dress, and would live in them for the rest of my working life, so need some perspective.

Depends where you work it think. They're creeping back in in my workplace as hybrid working is getting curtailed and it is hard to find things that compete with a man's tailored suit when you need to be smart.

MikeRafone · 22/02/2026 07:26

If you like the dresses, then wear them. The first dress looks lovely & the second fine, but that my opinion

MayaPinion · 22/02/2026 07:27

No, I think they’re perfect, though probably worn with a cardi and a loafer or trainer rather than heels and a jacket these days. I think the body con/shift dresses look very dated.

Ophir · 22/02/2026 07:32

They are quite bright for work, in my view, but I guess it depends where you work.

I would not wear with trainers, that would look dated now.

I think it’s the colours rather than the dresses

SoScarletItWas · 22/02/2026 07:35

Agree with @Ophir re the colours. Especially the pink one; I would give you a double take and think it was quite wedding-guest.

Both colours are difficult for shoes. Maybe a light tan sandal with the blue one.

IDontHateRainbows · 22/02/2026 07:49

I like a smart look in the office after years of 'pandemic era casual'. So I'd say yes if you can cope with maybe dressing a little differently to the herd.

AcrobaticCardigan · 22/02/2026 08:08

I love them & think they’re perfect. ESP love the pink one!

donttellthem · 22/02/2026 08:10

The shapes are good. Depending on the time of year I would struggle with what to wear on my legs, and footwear that would stop them looking like wedding guest attire. I just think it's the colours.

EscapadeVelocity · 22/02/2026 08:14

The pink is particularly dated. I see similar blue tones as shirts, generally.

If I saw a stranger in either frock, I wouldn’t automatically think they were badly dressed - just that they’re not interested in fashion, and that we probably wouldn’t have anything in common. (Which might matter if I were looking to work with them on a creative project.) But I have plenty of friends whose style preferences are very different to mine - doesn’t stop me liking them as people.

Harrietsaunt · 22/02/2026 08:17

They are more wedding guest than corporate management to my eye.

However, if you like them, wear them.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 22/02/2026 08:32

What industry do you work in? Some require more classic dressing than others. I like both dresses, agree that shoe choice is potentially tricky.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 22/02/2026 08:37

Very dressed up for everyday work and the colours make them look a bit "wedding guest". I might wear something like that for my board meetings in the summer occasionally but for everyday wear it's more smart casual. When I worked for a law firm ten years ago dressing like than was more normal, but my workplace now is much more relaxed, thank goodness.

luckylavender · 22/02/2026 08:44

They’re both lovely

PrimaniTu · 22/02/2026 08:44

They can’t be dated if they’re currently being sold in shops. FWIW I like both of those dresses and perhaps you can set a trend for your colleagues to dress more smartly at work.

A lot of people dress really scruffy these days both at work and out and about.

Oh yes. Lots of things sold are dated, and it’s also about where you wear them

squashyhat · 22/02/2026 08:46

probably worn with a cardi and a loafer or trainer

Just the one?

BitOutOfPractice · 22/02/2026 08:49

I think the dresses are fine. But I agree that the colours are hard to manage for work.

What sort of workplace is it op, style wise. What are others wearing?

Savoury · 22/02/2026 08:51

Dressing up is coming back as the WFH era ends. It also depends where you work I guess and your level of seniority but I tend to dress smart at work and the men are wearing suits (without ties) again.
I think these dresses are nice - esp the pink - but probably wouldn’t wear the matching jacket preferring to look less matchy. I would wear with flat ballet or a stiletto heel.

Lostsadandconfused · 22/02/2026 08:53

They’re fine, although quite dressy for the modern office. The pink colour is very eye catching though.

i wouldn’t personally wear either as i don’t like exposed arms in the office.

whatsit84 · 22/02/2026 08:55

I like the shapes and the general smartness vibe but maybe the colours would be a bit tricky for the general British weather and shoes as well as what to wear on legs

HArderthan1thought · 22/02/2026 08:56

I like the style, and would wear them. I think whether the colours are appropriate for your work place, depends on where you work.
(Separately, I think it's a shame that for that money, it only extends to polyester - that's what would personally put me off)

DancingNotDrowning · 22/02/2026 08:58

I loved a RM dress back in the day, but these are the antithesis of that look.

RM was sexy, confident, ball breaker power dressing. The dresses you have posted are summer wedding meets PTA style wasteland.

if you want to invoke a more modern power dressing look then it’s more wide leg trousers fitted tops in interesting fabrics (leather skirts and dresses seem to be big in our boardroom) and loafers (although heels still alive and kicking in many industries).
