Are these two dresses dated for workwear?

I know “if you like it, wear it “ but also I was loved the era of a power Galaxy dress, and would live in them for the rest of my working life, so need some perspective.

I love them both. I think it’s great to see some colour and not dated at all. I think the whole look like Ive just rolled out of bed is very dated…..in my book it’s always nice to look slightly smarter.

Cardis are good. I would wear nude heels or espadrilles. They are more smart casual for me, but the shape is lovely. I’d wear navy with the blue or white. With the pink I’d probably wear black or white.

To smarten them if this is your office then a blazer can work too.

queenofarles · 22/02/2026 10:24

Sorry but these are quite dated.

BelleEpoque27 · 22/02/2026 10:33

Different industries and offices have vastly different styles. You'd look very out of place where I work, but it's a fairly casual office where most women wear something like wide leg trousers and a jumper, or an unstructured blouse. Dresses are more like something from Cos or Uniqlo - quite plain, loose fitting, neutral colours.

I have noticed the younger ones are wearing kitten heels, but again with trousers.

A cardigan is not a good look for work

Nonsense.

DancingNotDrowning · 22/02/2026 10:35

I’ll be shot for saying this but in my corporate office a cardigan is a very clear signifier of lower status.

They’re worn by admins and women who are generally not taken seriously.

Blossoms17 · 22/02/2026 10:36

EscapadeVelocity · 22/02/2026 08:14

The pink is particularly dated. I see similar blue tones as shirts, generally.

If I saw a stranger in either frock, I wouldn’t automatically think they were badly dressed - just that they’re not interested in fashion, and that we probably wouldn’t have anything in common. (Which might matter if I were looking to work with them on a creative project.) But I have plenty of friends whose style preferences are very different to mine - doesn’t stop me liking them as people.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 what a pretentious reply. Funny.

She’s absolutely right though 🤷‍♀️

snowgirl1 · 22/02/2026 10:37

I don't think they're hip cutting edge fashion (as someone else posted, wide-leg trousers, fitted tops and loafers are more 'on trend') but I'd say they're work appropriate. Personally, what I think looks more dated is something along the lines of a black suit with straight skirt which looks like a retail bank uniform from the 80s. Wear the dresses!

I'm in the private sector. Smarter dressing is making a return, especially with the younger employees. But that isn't the traditional tailored corporate look.

I can easily imagine the newly qualified solicitor in my team wearing either of these dresses but she'd wear them with flat shoes or a low kitten heel, possibly opaque tights, and a cardigan. Definitely not nude heels and a blazer.

EscapadeVelocity · 22/02/2026 10:38

Well, as I wrote exactly as myself I guess we wouldn’t get on, @Blossoms17. 😂

No, I think they’re perfect, though probably worn with a cardi and a loafer or trainer rather than heels and a jacket these days. I think the body con/shift dresses look very dated.

They’re beautiful dresses but trainers and a cardi would not work with them at all

It’s the opposite where I work. Cardigans tend to be worn by the more senior women and the fashion-forward clothes by the less senior grades.

The dresses that OP has linked to wouldn’t stand out in my office whatever the grade. And it’s nice to see colour rather than boring neutrals.

Don’t be daft. A little black cardigan may not ever be fashion cutting edge, but it would be entirely appropriate in many work places. I don’t think it would help these dresses though.

agree - it does depend on the cardi. Nothing wrong with a smart twin set!

DancingNotDrowning · 22/02/2026 10:47

The style might be a somewhat boring corporate look but the colour is not - so the look is just weirdly jarring.

I can’t imagine this look fitting in anywhere in my organisation, or any place ive ever worked

PhaedraWas · 22/02/2026 10:41

Well I assume you don’t work in my team so your office “rules” might be different.

Where I work no junior lawyers are turning up in pink or pastel blue dresses. Nor are they wearing cardigans.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 22/02/2026 10:50

They are very Kate Middleton, very elegant, but I wouldn't class them as typical workwear. I think you would need to be quite willowy to carry off those dresses.

Cardigans aside, you do realise that not everyone has an issue with being an administrator or 'not being taken seriously'? Not everyone lives for their job or career

This post wins the internet for me today 😂

OP, I don’t love those dresses but I think they are fine for work. I’m a lecturer in a creative subject and my students must think I am very low status. My “work uniform” at this time of year tends to be wide black jeans or printed trousers, t-shirt, cardigan, and trainers or DM boots, mainly from Cos/Arket/&OS etc. In summer I wear a lot more skirts and dresses but I hate tights.

OriginalSkang · 22/02/2026 11:01

Admins - get out of the style and beauty section and take your cardigans with you, you absolute losers

(I'm an administrator, in case its not obvious 😅)

Melarus · 22/02/2026 11:04

Yesterday I put on a cardigan and my cat refused to take me seriously

Paraguay · 22/02/2026 11:05

I hate cardigans, they look Mumsy and awful, especially with big busts
