Lighthearted! Was chatting to some ladies at a group I attend and they were talking about fashion brands that is seen is tacky and trashy, superdry, Tommy Hilfiger, juicy couture, Adanola etc. do you agree with this? FWIW I do wear hilfiger jeans the odd time but seem to live in adanola as I find it nice fitting for my shape and very comfortable and never thought the brands as tacky per se but now I’m a bit paranoid, not that I care too much but nobody wants to appear tacky let’s be honest

Juicy Couture definitely and now Whitefox even though the matching sets do look really comfy 🙈

I came on to say Juicy Couture x

Charlotte Tilbury. It's make up for people who drink caramel lattes.

Her makeup is SO overrated, especially all the shiny foundations....

ChampagneLassie · 12/02/2026 18:53

Holland Cooper. I admire Jade and what’s she’s built but the overt branding of her clothes is quite tacky.

Agreed. This whole thread is ridiculous and judgemental. My daughter (11) has two white fox hoodies and I think they are quite gorgeous

Gorgeous? How can a hoodie, of any brand, be gorgeous?

I knew this would be the sort of comment someone would make.

”Anybody off the street” as opposed to what, dare I ask?

Maybe dropped off round the side entrance by helicopter ?

Goodness knows what you'd make of the rucksack I carry around now

Or my running backpack. I'm a multitasker 😉

Absolutely. She's a size 6 and tall so she looks fabulous in the clothes. She also lives the life the clothes go with. Doesn't have the same effect on someone who isn't tall and is shuffling about in a pair of fake uggs and a very long coat with HOLLAND COOPER all down the back in huge gold letters

Bikergran · 12/02/2026 19:00

Anything with the designer's logo on it. I just assume it's a cheap market knock-off.

RedRiverShore6 · 12/02/2026 19:04

Isn't Superdry a teen shop, we used to get DS stuff from there when he was at school

People who wear dry robes but don't go open water swimming.

If it's raining so hard that I might as well be swimming then imma wear the dry robe! (Some of us don't drive and have long walks in the rain to get anywhere).
Although I agree it does look abit wonky to be wearing one on sunny, dry day. They really arent a decent style choice, just for function imo.

I'm not a fan of the fastest fashion gear like shein, boohoo, PLT and temu.
Not bothered about the spenny big brands though. I think it's a little bit sad and unimaginative to kit yourself out in brand named viral pieces but its not me that has to wear it! 😁

Jamesblonde2 · 12/02/2026 19:06

Haha this thread is brilliant.

SirQuintus · 12/02/2026 19:07

Whats wrong with Dryrobe? I've never seen one on someone in the flesh - I've only seen them on photos of actors waiting on set when its cold and raining to cover up the costume and keep them warm before filming.

Aren't they otherwise just used as a cover up after swimming? Why are they tacky?

Please could someone explain....

Wintersgirl · 12/02/2026 19:07

QuickPeachPoet · 12/02/2026 12:21

I did too! Doggo looked very proud of himself. Little sausage dog.
I would never get my lab to wear one. He would be very unimpressed. He doesn't want to be a dry robe dog wally😂

I saw a Black lab in a green tweed waistcoat, he looked very much the country gent, very dapper!

I can't help thinking that there is a very large dose of misogyny and ageism involved in the dryrobe hate. A lot of the original dryrobe purchasers were middle aged women who took to cold water swimming to manage menopause symptoms and to boost their mental health/wellbeing at a vulnerable time in their lives. SO they are fair game......

No, you are completely missing the point. Those women are swimmers who are using their Dry Robes for the purpose for which they were designed. The idiots are the ones who never get wet underneath them.

Dunno, but then I've no idea why Waitrose or Chanel are tacky either.

MidnightMeltdown · 12/02/2026 19:09

Ted Baker, Luis Vuitton, Gucci (particularly thinking about the bags here. Especially the with the revolting giant gold Gs)

RedRiverShore6 · 12/02/2026 19:10

I can't understand the fuss about Dryrobes, people wear them to walk the dog, seems quite practical, do they wash well.

TheChosenTwo · 12/02/2026 19:12

I just think anything with the brand plastered on it in anything bigger than about a size 12 font is a bit tacky regardless of the brand itself.

i wear my dryrobe with pride - from my car to the lake and back again after my swim! Very warm and just what I need after a very chilly swim but it’s a bulky coat that I don’t wear anywhere else. It’s a useful functional winter accessory for me, not a style choice - an opinion shared by everyone else I see getting dry and dressed after a swim - onesies, thermal leggings, pyjamas with hot water bottles stuffed down the front, anything goes down there with absolutely no judgement from anyone!

RedRiverShore6 · 12/02/2026 19:14

I see someone had put Waitrose, it's just a supermarket, how is it tacky.

But what about people who wear trainers and never partake in sports?

ScaredOfFlying · 12/02/2026 19:15

But you would not own a Dry Robe if you had not bought it for swimming.

Jokethecoalwoman · 12/02/2026 19:16

SirQuintus · 12/02/2026 19:22

I still don't understand how a Dryrobe can be tacky at all as a brand.

To me tacky means tasteless showiness - so people who can't afford it trying to project wealth. That's why things like Burberry check or Tommy Hilfiger might be considered tacky - they are showy, noticeable, and worn on mass by people with no taste. I wouldn't say all of Louis Vuitton is tacky but same with Burberry and the check print, the monogram brown canvas bags (LV print) are tacky for the same reasons.

A Dryrobe from what I know is a boring black fleece or towel lined waterproof robe specifically to keep you warm after swimming or like I said situations where actors are hanging around on the edge of a set in the cold or rain.

How is that tacky? It makes no statement about anything other than wanting to be not rained on or soggy.

Are there gangs of marauding chavs who have taken up wearing dryrobes or something?

MusicWasMyFirstLove · 12/02/2026 19:23

Any brand where you're a walking billboard for them
