Closed toe summer shoes

So I have summer dresses (mostly midi) that I started wearing last summer but I am struggling with shoes to wear with them. I don’t wear open toed shoes and need a shoe that covers about an inch above the toes (so ballet flats don’t work). I’m happy to wear with a trainer at times but was hoping for a more summery look

last year I had menorcan sandals but they are a bit too flat - my calves are fat so I need a bit more heel or a shoe that makes my leg look longer! espadrilles don’t work because of the straps up the leg

Smart espadrille?

Thanks. Will have a look. Never heard of Linzi shoes.

espadrilles don’t tend to work because I can’t have straps ankle or above - unless there are different styles? I’ve always thought they have ribbons up the leg

Jigsaw do great espadrilles with a bit of a wedge that don’t have those ribbon straps - I’ve had sling back ones before, and I think they do ones with elastic crossovers and Mary Jane style straps too. They are good for work with midi/maxi length skits etc

The puma speedcat ballerinas and similar styles are on trend for SS26, and the sole is supportive like a trainer.

i am going to get a beige pair. They will look nice with neutral trousers and cotton skirts.

Straps can work if they are low enough on the ankle/ foot and also if they are skin colour/ maybe gold and fine / narrow not thick so don’t ’cut off’ the leg. Can be hard to get!

I bought fisherman's sandals (Celtic and co.; from memory Moshulu and Clarks also had versions with good toe coverage), but they might be too flat for your taste.

Take a look at all the variations on Siebel's Rosalie style. Lots are errr... very hippyish... but the slingback variant might be flattering. JL usually stocks at least some Siebel styles in the summer.

JOSEF SEIBEL Rosalie 13

Ladies lightweight closed toe sandal with cross strap design. Crafted from soft leathers with a cushioned leather lining, sitting atop a flexible and durable sole. Round toe sandal with adjustable buckle and handstitched finish.

Thanks I will have a look

the ankle strap on the espadrille isn’t great on me and would prefer a lower heel - they are definitely a shoe I would like to wear but whenever I try them on I’m reminded why not!!!

not a fan of fisherman sandals

will have a look at seibel

thank you!!

I like Converse with a dress, though they’re not great support for walking far and my feet get clammy in them whatever my socks are made of.

TamzinGrey · 28/01/2026 14:20

I bought these to wear with dresses last summer as I wanted a pair of closed toe sandals with a slight wedge. They were so comfy that I then ordered another pair in plain beige.

I like the loafers and the Rosalie 13 (may be better for beach holiday?)

what colour do you think would be best with the dresses I have which are black/blue/green?

the menorcan sandals I have are white and a bit much when wearing the darker colours

They are nice and don’t seem too tall - although I’m wondering if too low at the toe!

I’ve realised I probably need multiple shoes for multiple purposes….

yup, Im team Converse too! Wear them with everything in the summer. Although I walk miles a day and find really flat shoes most comfy, also have cold feet so dont mind socks.
(I find bare feet and sandals 'wrong' though. Probably my crappy neighbourhood but I always think about all the bits of rubbish and dirt that will get on your feet from the pavement).

Bruisername · 28/01/2026 15:54

Yes I’m happy to wear with trainers/converse but it’s more on holiday or trying to look a bit smarter

Hotter usually have a couple of closed toe styles in various colours. There are some on the website currently and worth checking again as the year progresses.

How do you feel about clogs?

This company has some really nice ones, and I find them super comfortable

What about Sézane Paula Babies shoes or their dupes? I bought dupes from New Look last year for a summer wedding-didn’t want to pay Sézane prices as I rarely wear actual shoes, just Birks in the summer. It they looked great.

Cannot beat a pair of flyflots for ultimate comfort..not really smart but epically comfortable

EleanorMc67 · 28/01/2026 17:27

What about something like these? I know you said you're not keen on fisherman sandals but these are more delicate/less utilitarian. Metallic goes with everything. My preference is soft golds but silver would also work with your palette of black/green/blue.
