Closed toe summer shoes

So I have summer dresses (mostly midi) that I started wearing last summer but I am struggling with shoes to wear with them. I don’t wear open toed shoes and need a shoe that covers about an inch above the toes (so ballet flats don’t work). I’m happy to wear with a trainer at times but was hoping for a more summery look

last year I had menorcan sandals but they are a bit too flat - my calves are fat so I need a bit more heel or a shoe that makes my leg look longer! espadrilles don’t work because of the straps up the leg

Also tan espadrilles - I can never seem to keep shoes/sandals with just a strap around the back of my heel on properly though! Unless they're elasticated.

These are lovely although I’m more tempted by the dark pair (I struggle with light colours!)

You need toms

cuberoot · 28/01/2026 20:32

I love that style (I also hate open toes) but couldn't afford them last summer so I ended up getting the temu version

and they are amazingly comfy, wore them all summer!

EDIT: post above initially hidden, so had posted the longer link in this post

I bought fisherman's sandals (Celtic and co.; from memory Moshulu and Clarks also had versions with good toe coverage), but they might be too flat for your taste.

Take a look at all the variations on Siebel's Rosalie style. Lots are errr... very hippyish... but the slingback variant might be flattering. JL usually stocks at least some Siebel styles in the summer.

Came on to recommend Rosalie 13 and you’ve beaten me to it. Love these shoes!

Also, quite like these (come in diff colours).

I think you've answered your own question ...?

A high pair of black espadrilles for going out, a low pair of espadrilles (metallic?) for everyday. And a pair of loafers, maybe in tan, (and)/or pumps - also for everyday as you don't want to wear the same pair all the time ...

Oh, & the gorgeous green pair - just because?!!!

So at least four new pairs of footwear is the correct answer ...

I like the loafers and the Rosalie 13 (may be better for beach holiday?)

what colour do you think would be best with the dresses I have which are black/blue/green?

the menorcan sandals I have are white and a bit much when wearing the darker colours

I wear Rosalie 13s with dresses, jeans, shorts - they’re very versatile, and I find them very comfortable and can wear all day. They’re my go-to summer sandal (hate open-toed shoes)

Bruisername · 28/01/2026 21:18

I’m glad I’m not the only open toe shoe hater!

I have a lot on my list now so need to do some whittling

OP - I just had a search on eBay & Vinted for those gorgeous green Brora ones. Sadly fruitless, but these Brora ones came up in a few colours, which might be a good addition to your everyday shoe collection ...?!!

Oh, is it just that you hate open-toed sandals? I'd just assumed it was because you had damaged toenails or something that meant you preferred to keep your toenails covered!

is a dislike/hatred/phobia of open toes a thing?!

Bruisername · 28/01/2026 21:50

I have some scarring but I’ve always disliked toes! Even as a kid I didn’t like open toed shoes

I have a hatred of thong sandals - toe posts make me feel queasy! But I love my Chanel red nail polish on my toenails in summer ...

Allbirds may work.. they're very comfy and can go in the washing machine which is good for summer wear. Lots of styles e.g.

I think DH is propping that company up 🤣

I'm too stubborn to buy a pair as he’s so evangelical…

Deck shoes go with most things - I got great ones at Moshulo.
