Ive been cooing over these cardigans for years, and I just saw it on Traitors and as Ive done quite well with work recently Im seriously considering buying one as a well done to myself. Am I mad? I want the colourful one, but its over £400!!!! Ive never spent that on anything before. I do know I would wear it to death, and it would make me crazy happy. I have a ratty old brown cardigan that I wear constantly. So should I go for it, or is that totally bonkers? Anyone got one? The fact you cant wash them might be an issue cos I know I would wear it constantly and Im a glumsy git.

Thoughts?

Oh and here is the beauty. I mean its a work of art and so cheery. The Colourful Colossal Knit Cardigan | Hope Macaulay

I also love the browner colours which would go with more Bruna Colossal Knit Cardigan | Hope Macaulay

I also wouldn't know what size to get. Im a size 10/12 tall with big boobs. I really want that oversize look so Im guessing M/L. Id want it a bigger fit than on the model. They are made to order so don't want to fuck it up.

I don't know whether this is any help, but you know you could knock that up in an afternoon with some super chunky yarn and big pins, right? I'm not trying to be facetious, you really could Smile

amibeingaknob · 10/01/2026 15:11

Really? I thought it was hours and hours of skilled work - hence the price!

I loved that when I saw Jade wearing it. I especially like the brown one.

You definitely could, and you could make it fit better.

amibeingaknob · 10/01/2026 15:14

Well I have zero skills in that area so thats not going to happen - but its annoying to know it isn't hours and hours of skilled work as they claim on the website.

How would you wash it?

amibeingaknob · 10/01/2026 15:17

You can't. Its dab with a damn cloth or dry clean only. Which is shit. Especially as Ill wear it constantly and Im super clumsy.

Do you know any expert knitters who could knit one for you. £470 is an extortionate price for a cardigan.

TheChosenTwo · 10/01/2026 15:18

Wow. I personally think it’s ghastly 😂 but I’d say it’s not something that could be knocked up in a couple of hours as a pp has suggested, certainly not for someone who hasn’t tried something like this before anyway! If you were skilled at it then maybe?
It says it can be dry cleaned but I imagine a large part of the price would be down to the materials used?

Well three or four hours is still 'hours and hours'! And you're getting a handmade garment which is great, but even given the price of the yarn (and I've priced up some knitting projects I fancied and almost fainted at the eventual cost 😮), it's an awful lot to pay for something fairly simple to make.

I have a lovely wool Genevieve Sweeney jumper that would have taken far more work and cost less, although not much less.

It looks really uncomfortable and heavy, I feel like it would never be the right weather to wear this!!

Im amazed anyone could think its ghastly. They are all so utterly beautiful and joyful (to me). Just goes to show how taste is so unique hey.

If I were rich Id buy 10! and wear a different one every day. As you can see I really do LOVE them. I just don't want to be ripped off, and really they are a mental price, and I am not in any way wealthy enough to justify it.

See Im uber sensory (Im autistic) and because the wool is soft and its so baggy I think i would love it. Although I am likely to pick at it which will likely fuck it up. The heavyness is what I would like. Like a big blanket on me constantly. I also think it would work as a coat when not raining. Thats how Id wear it. It would be hard to get a coat over it wouldn't it?

I was debating the same. My husband would not be impressed with me spending that on a cardigan though. I really want the polka dot one.

You are a grown up - you don't need permission from randoms on the Internet to buy it! Mind, I think the company should get Jade from Traitors to model it for them as it looks a million times better on her than on the photos you've linked.

LighthouseLED · 10/01/2026 15:28

I think it’s hideous, sorry!

Thewonderfuleveryday · 10/01/2026 15:32

They're fab cardigans. There is no way I could knit one. I reckon it could be washed gently in a duvet cover then dried flat in the garden so it gets nice and fresh. It wouldn't need washing very often though.

I was looking at the HM insta this week and it seems like they use their hands to knit them? I couldn't even figure out crocheting with someone teaching me face toface let alone knit something.

upstairsdownstairscardboardbox · 10/01/2026 15:36

I am a sheep farmer OP and I use a hand knitter to knit up items for me, she charges £5ph and I provide all the yarn. I think that would be a great way to get one of these for a fraction of the price.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 10/01/2026 15:37

There are cheaper versions on Etsy, this one in merino wool:

upstairsdownstairscardboardbox · 10/01/2026 15:37

There are also a few on Vinted!

ChanceOfALifeLine · 10/01/2026 15:38

Have a look on Etsy - or on Facebook groups for knitters - and you could get something similar, fabulous, unique, supporting an individual for half that price.

CharlotteRumpling · 10/01/2026 15:40

I do not understand the love for this cardie..Seen at least 3 articles raving about it!
