Ive been cooing over these cardigans for years, and I just saw it on Traitors and as Ive done quite well with work recently Im seriously considering buying one as a well done to myself. Am I mad? I want the colourful one, but its over £400!!!! Ive never spent that on anything before. I do know I would wear it to death, and it would make me crazy happy. I have a ratty old brown cardigan that I wear constantly. So should I go for it, or is that totally bonkers? Anyone got one? The fact you cant wash them might be an issue cos I know I would wear it constantly and Im a glumsy git.

Thoughts?

Oh and here is the beauty. I mean its a work of art and so cheery. The Colourful Colossal Knit Cardigan | Hope Macaulay

I also love the browner colours which would go with more Bruna Colossal Knit Cardigan | Hope Macaulay

I also wouldn't know what size to get. Im a size 10/12 tall with big boobs. I really want that oversize look so Im guessing M/L. Id want it a bigger fit than on the model. They are made to order so don't want to fuck it up.

But its negative? Reaaallly negative.

They haven't come back to me and chargeback is still in progress. How long do those usually take? Its been a while now.

I've only done charge backs through Paypal and they had to contact the seller, give them time for a response, I think it was 10 days or so. But mine was the seller never shipped and counterfeit item, not goods not as advertised or too shoddy to wear.

Any publicity is good publicity??

I remember having a bitch about these fugly cardigans on the MN Traitors thread a few weeks ago! I said then - as so many posters have said on this thread - that garments knitted with unspun roving are doomed. Yarn is almost always twisted at least, and usually plied (twisted with other twists, basically) to give it more durability. This makes the wool less floofy but also less liable to literally pull apart with even gentle wear. The pilling you're getting is the result of the 'bloom' or halo you've noted - that's the loose fibres on the outside of the roving coming loose and then rubbing up with other loose fibres. Lots of luxe yarns like cashmere have a 'bloom' and that's thought to be a positive thing as it can look quite lovely. But blooms do pill!

Why not teach yourself to knit? Honestly it's something you can do via online tutorials and there are loads of knitting groups to help you get started. When you've learned a few basics, you could seek out the chunkiest (but spun and plied!) yarn you can find and knit something super-chunky on 15mm needles.

Yeh i guess even a big moan can create publicity hey.

I keep reading this about them being terribly made by knitters. But Im still utterly baffled why trustpilot reviews are so good!

Im never going to do knitting. Im dyspraxic so my fine motor skills are completely shite - and I have zero interest. My chill thing to do is drink wine and watch MAFS. not a crafty bone in my body. I have other talents though. :)

I will never understand this attitude. Do you advise people to take up dressmaking if their trousers go bobbly or their hem unravels? Yeah, just start making your own clothes and then they will always be perfect. Maybe after a couple of years of learning and trial and error. Even then, the OP loved a cardigan created by a knitwear designer. It was very expensive. It should last longer than a couple of wears. If you’re going to give any advice for the future, surely it would be to avoid garments knitted with roving? Not, hey, knit yer own, nobody will ever know the difference.

Any updates OP? Did you leave a review? On her Facebook or Google reviews?

amibeingaknob · 01/04/2026 12:56

UPDATE:

Sooooo, the bank agreed with me but gave them a chance to respond. They responded and bank still agreed with me and I just got it all back! Im absolutely stoked.

As an aside, I just told my boyfriend about it (I hadn't said anything cos I felt a bit embarrassed by it all) and he said that he had had to hoover his car out cos I was moulting everywhere.

I put a review up on trust pilot (you can probably see it) and they just responded with the 'its natural for wool to do this, you need the comb etc' bullshit. So annoying. My boyfriend just said when I put it on for him that if he just met me wearing it he would think I was homeless or poor as it looks so bad!

Its fraud basically. I can't believe the company are surviving. I cant be the only one getting a chargeback.
bonkers.

So glad you got your money back!
As an aside they are not "terribly made by knitters" they are made from completely unsuitable materials to the designer's instructions - emperor's new clothes to the max! Interesting how few of the trust pilot reviews mention how they get wrecked so quickly

amibeingaknob · 01/04/2026 13:46

Yeh good point. Its not the knitters its the material for sure.

I dont get why the reviews don't mention it. Baffling.

Glad you got your money back. I can’t understand the great reviews either!!

Whowhatwerewolf · 01/04/2026 15:30

That's the update I was hoping to read! Congratulations and I'm so glad you didn't give up. Plus with this thread and your review others will hopefully be forewarned.

outerspacepotato · 01/04/2026 15:41

I'm so glad you got refunded.

I really hope so. Kind of wish it was in AIBU for more traffic. The cheeky cheeky bastards.

Whilst Im thrilled with result, Im weirdly outraged that clearly I was right - the bank agreed to - and they are just getting away with it. I mean how many people bother with chargebacks? I wouldn't have - it was only because somebody on here encouraged me.

yorkshiretoffee · 01/04/2026 15:56

Great news, although a shame it was not a great cardigan!

What are you going to do with it now? Is there anything you could do to make it wearable?

ilovepixie · 01/04/2026 16:18

Put something on her social media pages along with pictures. That would get more views than trust pilot.

amibeingaknob · 01/04/2026 17:35

I dont have social media. However, if people want to go nuts on it with my pics feel free. I feel its a public service.
