Ive been cooing over these cardigans for years, and I just saw it on Traitors and as Ive done quite well with work recently Im seriously considering buying one as a well done to myself. Am I mad? I want the colourful one, but its over £400!!!! Ive never spent that on anything before. I do know I would wear it to death, and it would make me crazy happy. I have a ratty old brown cardigan that I wear constantly. So should I go for it, or is that totally bonkers? Anyone got one? The fact you cant wash them might be an issue cos I know I would wear it constantly and Im a glumsy git.

Thoughts?

Oh and here is the beauty. I mean its a work of art and so cheery. The Colourful Colossal Knit Cardigan | Hope Macaulay

I also love the browner colours which would go with more Bruna Colossal Knit Cardigan | Hope Macaulay

I also wouldn't know what size to get. Im a size 10/12 tall with big boobs. I really want that oversize look so Im guessing M/L. Id want it a bigger fit than on the model. They are made to order so don't want to fuck it up.

Sooo its arrived!!!!

So firstly it is an absolute work of art. Its utterly beautiful, and v.v. unusual. Like no other knitwear I have ever seen or worn. I absolutely love love love it. I feel like it gives me that mad art teacher vibe which is exactly what I was after. Im really glad I didnt go for the madder colours - in the subtle colours it really looks mad enough tbh. I defo chose the right colour and style.

The downsides are this. Im a 10-12 and tall. I went for the M/L and I wish I had sized up. The sleeves are really long which is great, but the cardy finishes at my waist. Being super fussy, I would have sized up if I had my time again.

Other downside it is INCREDIBLY heavy. Im neurodiverse so maybe Im just being a bit sensitive but its like putting a weighted blanket on (which i loathe). I couldn't wear it with a coat as well, it would be too heavy and bulky.

Im about to go to lunch with boyfriend and flounce about in it, so will report back. But overall its an absolute stunner. But it is definately gonna be like marmite. People are either going to coo over it and love it - or they are going to be like 'what the fuck are you wearing?' There is no way someone could not comment because it really is out there.

As you can probably tell im buzzing right now. Im supposed to be WFH and Im gonna drive to my mums to show it off. It certainly has made me very happy so definately worth it.

you are not alone in your Hope Macauley love, @amibeingaknob . She is currently advertising for more knitters as she has seen such a surge in demand. Glad you are pleased with your "mad art teacher" cardi.

yorkshiretoffee · 11/02/2026 11:57

Could you put up a photo? Just of the cardy.

pixiegirlishere · 11/02/2026 12:01

Ooh, show which one you bought!

amibeingaknob · 11/02/2026 13:22

Well mum and dad loved it. I think ive uploaded pics correctly. They agreed its mad heavy and also v.v.v warm. We nickname their house 'the igloo' or 'elsas palace' and for the first time this winter i was actually a bit toasty so thats a bonus lol.

Just about to go for a walk and for a pub lunch with my fella so Im buzzing. I feel awesome in it. I also feel like the flares really go well with it. Although me and mum discussed I simply must purchase a chocolate brown dress to go with it. 😊

Love it - very jealous! Enjoy your fabulous purchase.

allmycats · 11/02/2026 17:19

Stunning

Nara2k · 11/02/2026 19:47

It's lovely - well to wear. Your colourway is much nicer than the mad colours and you need a brown dress for sure :D

LighthouseLED · 11/02/2026 20:57

That looks so much better on you than the website photos.

I see what you mean about the length, but I think over a dress it will be the right length.

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 11/02/2026 21:02

I really like the length. It stops at exactly your narrowest point. Any longer would be really unflattering IMHO.

EasternStandard · 11/02/2026 21:06

It looks great op plus the flares

amibeingaknob · 10/01/2026 15:11

Really? I thought it was hours and hours of skilled work - hence the price!

No. I have very, very limited creative skills and even I managed something similar wheb I first tried knitting.

Whowhatwerewolf · 11/02/2026 21:43

I'm so glad to hear it arrived and you're happy.

It's lovely. I think waist length looks great.

Thewonderfuleveryday · 12/02/2026 07:33

It looks great, a HM cardigan on a civilian!
The length is perfect, any longer than your waist would swamp you.

amibeingaknob · 12/02/2026 07:50

Oooh you think? Yeh maybe you are right then about the right size. And also there is no guarantee that bigger would be longer anyway.

When I went to the pub I had several people stop me and compliment it. Including a young waitress who was like, 'omg that is the most gorgeous cardigan I have ever seen'. boyfriend laughed and said I was like a kid with new trainers going 'look how fast i can run'. hehe.

I have three more in my basket now. Obviously that will never happen. Im not Rothschild - but a girl can dream.

How brilliant! Keep updating us on how it all goes.
You are a great advert for it and how nice it is to see someone enjoy something for once!

underthehawthorntree · 16/02/2026 21:59

Just coming to say that cardigan is absolutely fabulous and you look amazing in it. I don't think it's bonkers at all I think it's beautiful and unusual. Good on you for treating yourself and having the confidence to choose something you love.

Hattieandcake · 16/02/2026 23:08

I like it and don’t think it’s that mad of a price at all for something well loved. I think the shorter length is fine.

amibeingaknob · 05/03/2026 17:21

UPDATE!

Im so so disappointed. Ive had so many compliments when I wear it which is lovely. Like literally stopped in the street or restaurant and people coo and ask me loads of questions so Im basking in the glow of that attention. HOWEVER, ive worn it several times in past few weeks and it looks ratty as hell now. The piling (is that the word) is shocking. Its like im moulting over everything and everyone and its like ive got a cat when I dont. I did complain about it actually and they just said i have to buy some fancy comb from them.

So yeh, I can't believe this is quite how its supposed to look after just a couple of weeks, so the knitters up thread who warned me of this weren't wrong.

OP posts:
yorkshiretoffee · 05/03/2026 18:24

Oh what a shame!
I am just reading reviews on Trustpilot and reviews are so positive - but most seem to have reviewed it quickly, rather than looking at longer term.

Are you going to get the comb? Do you feel you need it? (Someone else may be able to recommend something for you)

roving is never going to hold up. I presume they’re meant to be worn once or twice for insta/photos
