Removing pubic hair

bluedabadeedabadoo · 05/01/2026 11:52

Good morning all. How is everyone removing pubic hair nowadays (all of it).
I usually use removal cream but I’m overly sensitive and have come out in lots of red spots.
Shaving brings me out in red spots.
I don’t fancy waxing. Are there any other options out there?
Perhaps the electric shavers? What are they like, do they offer a close shave?
Home laser treatment- how does this work with public hair?

I trim it short with an electric bikini trimmer.

HipHopDontYouStop · 05/01/2026 14:28

Laser?

Why don’t we think it’s just your personal choice?

Because it’s a strange choice to make ? It’s unhealthy and painful and yet you still want to persist ?

if you were self harming it would be seen as a bad thing. Why is this not self harming? What makes this ok?

Wtf. People are entitled to remove their own hair if they want to.

TootSweetie · 05/01/2026 14:29

Bush balm!!!

If you remove the hair correctly why would it be sensitive and covered in red spots!? It’s perfectly smooth like a dolphin and doesn’t have annoying hairs snugging, pulling, getting trapped in teeth.

Do all of you against removing this hair also let your leg hair grow to full bloom? Or do you just trim the edges of it? Surely you don’t want the smooth hairless legs of a child.

Edit to add: I love a seasonal full bush but relish the choice to whip it all off as and when I desire. (Or can be bothered)

Edited

The OP said her pubic region is sensitive and covered in red spots from her hair removal technique. But it’s common for many people for most/all hair removal techniques.

I don’t want to be “perfectly smooth like a dolphin”. Is that aspirational? Also unless you have laser removal, it just regrows. Isn’t that worse than just having the hair? I don’t find the hair annoying.

My legs, I don’t shave. Sometimes epilate. I don’t find it painful, there is no ongoing expense, there is no damage to my skin. But I’m not that bothered about hair removal tbh. Children don’t have hairless legs anyway!

"paedo" - check
Just need "internalised misogyny" and "The Patriarchy" for a full house :)

I get this argument, and OP has a choice and a right to advice.

However...lets not pretend that it is a healthy or natural way to be. Porn has driven this and im so glad i was a young woman in the 80's when men were just glad to get some action?
Mind you have been single a long while, so if this is the expectation now I think i may be too much for a man now..in many ways!!😆

I trim it short with an electric bikini trimmer.

Same, I prefer a little length as it’s just easier to maintain. Occasionally epilate the bikini line.

HisNotHes · 05/01/2026 14:32

bluedabadeedabadoo · 05/01/2026 12:13

Thanks. Yes I could leave it alone but I feel more comfortable during sex to not have any.

Why? Because that’s society’s expectation now?

sweetpickle2 · 05/01/2026 14:33

"self harm", give over.

It's not my personal tastes but if the OP wants to take it all off, who cares?

OP I second Bush Balm for the spots. I shave or use hair removal cream to keep tidy downstairs and swear by it for getting rid of them.

SpaceRaccoon · 05/01/2026 14:33

Ewww at comparing a bald fanny to a dolphin.

MorningActivity · 05/01/2026 14:33

wishingonastar101 · 05/01/2026 13:45

Please don't IPL your fanny... your going to get older and as a woman nearing my 50's I would feel weird with a totally bald, baby bits.

Just wax up the sides, trim the front... lovely.

OMG to the person who can epilate... woah foof of steal.

As someone in their 50s, I think it would only be weird to me because I’ve never done it iyswim.
if you’re used to have hair somewhere (let’s say arm pit), still removing that hair when you’re 50 is just normal.

@bluedabadeedabadoo I have and still am using an epilator for the sides. Done so for about 20+ years. I’d say a proper waxing (with hot wax, not strips) is much less painful.
i can’t imagine doing a full epilation with it.

I only recently discovered it and it really helps with the bikini line. No irritation whatsoever and judging my reviews it’s the same when used all over.

I don’t think I’m brave enough to whip it all off but enjoy a little topiary 😂

MorningActivity · 05/01/2026 14:36

HisNotHes · 05/01/2026 14:32

More likely because thats what the OP is used to. Just like many women find it nicer to have their underarm waxed (or shaved etc…) too.
Sometimes, it’s not that deep.

The conversation as to why would women wax there is 20 years too late. Just like it would be weird nowadays to ask why a woman wax their legs or under arms.

Ok so why is she used to it?

blooooooor · 05/01/2026 14:38

Invest in laser treatment in the profesional salon, did wonders for me :)

I used to always hot wax, but I’ve switched to IPL and been really happy with it.

TMess · 05/01/2026 14:43

Also good luck to you, this topic always brings out the people who apparently misread it as “please vote on what I should do with my own body.”

Lemonyyy · 05/01/2026 14:44

I use a bikini genie as I’ve never found a way of going full bald that doesn’t make me go red and spotty either. Following with interest! Ignore the people telling you to leave it alone, your pubes your choice.

bluedabadeedabadoo · 05/01/2026 14:44

WongKarWaiMe · 05/01/2026 14:20

Which tremoval cream do you use? Most of them were no good for me, causing similar issues that you've had, but I tried WooWoo, and that was fine on my very sensitive skin.

Just make but I may try woo woo. I don’t always get red spots unless I don’t leave enough time between uses or shave on top (If it hasn’t quite removed it all or want to shave it after a few days of re-growth).

OP posts:
DiscoDown18 · 05/01/2026 14:45

I invested in a Philips Lumea because so many people raved about it on MN and I have to say I'm not that impressed. I'm persevering with my legs but it's still hot wax at a salon for the pubes!

MeganM3 · 05/01/2026 14:46

Hot wax every 4 (or maximum 5) weeks. The key is to not let the hair get too long as that’s when it’s painful.
Waxing isn’t exactly relaxing but after a few times it doesn’t hurt particularly, it’s just annoying that it’s quite expensive at a salon and not really a DIY project.

Illegally18 · 05/01/2026 14:46

GallonHat · 05/01/2026 12:00

Why not just leave it alone? Save time, money, angst and risk of infection.

indeed. It gives me the willies just to think about it!

I'm like this, I've really tried with all different kinds of razors but as soon as it starts growing back the itching and soreness is unbearable. I epilate my legs when I can be bothered but that's it these days
