Warm coat that’s also waterproof

BeenChangedForGood · 04/01/2026 16:51

I’m in desperate need of a coat that’s actually warm! And waterproof. Needs to survive a 40 minute walk from home to nursery to work, on the west coast of Scotland 😅

I have a puffer style from Monsoon which is not particularly warm or waterproof 😅 and I usually live in my dark green Seasalt Plant Hunter which does the job in the rain but is freezing!

To add to the difficulty - I’m a size 22 so needs to be available in larger sizes. I also have a health condition which makes me feel the cold more 😬 so need it to be properly toasty lol

Any suggestions would be welcome ☺️

What sort of budget are we talking?

MrsLizzieDarcy · 04/01/2026 17:04

I've got a Seasalt Janelle that I wear for dog walking, it's a really good length (meets the top of my wellies) and completely covers the back of my legs as a result. If you look on the Seasalt Ebay site you can often get old colours at really good prices - I paid about £70 for mine and it's more than paid for itself on cold wet days.

Would highly recommend Mountain Warehouse - they go up to a 24 in almost all coats.

This one is 2 layers so you can take the internal bit out as it warms up, is waterproof and covers your butt:

And you get 15% off sale prices if your have a Blue Light card - I think their membership includes nursery staff now.

Seasalt Janelle the long version is excellent but look at their size measurements.

Landsend stadium squall great plus size options. I live on the west coast to of Scotland and live in this coat October to march.

A jumper under the waterproof coat would suffice

Not in the west of Scotland. I wear the above coat with a vest, long sleeve t shirt, jumper, warm socks, trousers and warm boots, scarf and hat. And am cosy and dry.
A jumper under my summer waterproof coat would not cut it during winter.

A two layer Berghaus. Only drawback is they aren't long but in your situation I'd wear waterproof trousers.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 04/01/2026 17:50

Ive got a Fatface long waterproof coat with a removable padded inner, it's so warm and great in Spring without the inner

RandomMess · 04/01/2026 17:55

I have the Landsend Squall and it’s too hot so hopefully perfect for you.

Lemondrizzle4A · 04/01/2026 18:55

I’ve got a Regatta three in one waterproof coat. In fact two as my first is a size 20 too big and having lost weight bought a size 12. Highly recommend. It is currently in their sale.

Really doesn’t
I’m wearing a seasalt plant hunter with a long sleeve thermal top, a vest, a jumper and a cardigan underneath! I take the coat off but keep everything else on for work at the minute as no heating

RandomMess · 04/01/2026 19:40

I have a thin duck and down jacket I wear under my raincoat but it is not as warm as my landsend squall coat.

Purplemoonboots · 04/01/2026 19:51

Another vote for the landsend stadium squall. Decent length and properly warm without being frumpy.

SkyWalrus · 04/01/2026 20:08

Very pleased with my Lighthouse coat. Warm and waterproof. Really keeps the wind out too.

Landsend Expedition Parka. I have a longline one that I wore in Norway in -15° in blizzard conditions and it kept me toasty. I've since lost weight (size 22/24 down to a 12) and it no longer fits me. I've had to buy another one, but they don't do the longline one any more unfortunately.

BeenChangedForGood · 05/01/2026 06:07

@umberellaonesie @RandomMess @Purplemoonboots Thank you! Can I ask what the sizing is like on the Landsend coat? I’m a 22 with quite a large chest. Size options are 20-22 or 24-26. Am I better with the bigger one or are they generous?

I'm wearing my Lands End Squall parka. Absolutely waterproof and so warm. There's a sale atm. There are different grades so read before buying.

Mmc123 · 05/01/2026 07:53

100% recommend this ..bought to watch my son play Rugby ..wear it all the time now to walk the dog ..used to do winter mountineering so am used to down jackets/gortex jackets but this is better for warmth/windproofness than them all!! Bit of a Vera vibe with it though lol! There's various colours:
