Silk dress for daughters wedding

Namechangefor2026 · 02/01/2026 11:41

I am 5ft 4 and 10.5 stone. I am really not very stylish but want something spectacular for my daughter’s wedding in a hot country. I have recently lost weight and will lose more beforehand i will be around 10stone hopefully. I don’t mind what the cost is as I am quite frugal usually. I would love something in bright colours and maybe for example raw silk. But open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Xx

I attended a black tie at the beach wedding this year - which was an usual dress code for the setting, but everyone looked fabulous. I had packed a silk dress but the day before the wedding a fellow traveller/friend told me she thought it was too casual and ended up loaning me a stunning dress from Solace London. The fabric and tailoring of their dresses is superb. If you have an opportunity to try some on, I’d highly recommend

DON`T worry about not bein stylish - hot country calls for beach / lifeguard wear

This? Elegant and simple but a real standout. https://www.harveynichols.com/alice---olivia/juliette-floral-printed-satin-midi-dress-40576-pkot-rose-whisperer-224813/

I would also look at Rixo. I won't link to any particular dress as there are so many, but in general they are extremely light so fantastic to wear in the heat. I wore them all the time in a very hot destination and they were great.

I adore this! Colour is amazing.

I wore this to a wedding last year in a different colour. Am exactly the same age, height and weight you are aiming to be. I had it altered mainly at the top to fit perfectly and it was such a great choice. I wore heels to begin with and then changed into flats for dancing and both looked good. Only issue is that it is cut in a racer style so slightly tricky with bra fitting. I wore it with a sheer wrap embroidered with the colour of the dress.

Seems crazy to think alterations at this price, but I love this Pucci and would get it shortened.

Have a look here @Namechangefor2026
They're all silk I think. I personally adore the tortoiseshell Morhav dress.

I have the tortoseshell Mohave - I adore it and it is gorgeous to wear.
I thank the MN'er who aleted me to this dress every time I wear it.

But no way would I wear it in a very hot climate. It might be silk but silk can be warm, and the long sleeves would be tricky. I'd be avoiding sleeves, or at least below elbow sleeves.

I'd wear it in Italy/Spain in spring or autumn but I think its too warm for summer.

have a look at LK Bennett. They don’t have their Summer 26 range out yet. But this will give you an idea. I wore LKB for both my son’s weddings (one in a heatwave) and they were perfect. https://www.lkbennett.com/search/?text=silk+dress&_q=silk+dress&_gl=1bii3ih_upMQ.._gs*MQ..

I’d be too afraid of being in the same outfit as someone else if opting for the high street Hobbs, L K Bennett etc. Personally I’d opt for the less mainstream brands mentioned on here or go abroad as I said!

EvelynBeatrice · 05/01/2026 17:24

Not that the LK Bennett etc options shown here aren’t lovely - it’s just a risk.

Ahwig · 05/01/2026 17:38

I’m not a glam person at all but for my son’s abroad wedding I wanted something smart, classic but definitely comfortable to wear.. I was happy to spend a £100-£150 or even more if it felt right for the right dress. I found it in Roman and it cost me £65. It washes in the machine and fits me like a glove. Also I wanted to be able to wear it again. I didn’t want to look like the mother if the groom at every other function. I have worn it to another wedding but also out to dinner at nice restaurants and have received compliments about how it ( and me 😀) look good.

Victoria Beckham has lots of lovely dresses:

My only concern would be sweat patches from the heat though.

This is what I would go for, it’s a statement but not a ball gown which some of the other suggestions are

Oooof, I love this dress! I wish I had this budget.

I’m currently trying to find something for a black tie do so this has been a very enjoyable thread, op. I hope you find something that makes you feel a million dollars.

I wore a silk dress from Rixo to a Greek island wedding last August, and it wasn’t sweaty at all. I’m surprised by all the comments saying it won’t work for a hot climate.

Thank you to the pp who suggested Lora Gene by the way; I’m very tempted by the Paris dress (although it’s a bit more than I wanted to spend!)

I’m late to the party but check out Jasper Conran’s jewel-coloured silk fifties - shape (full skirt, nipped in waist) dresses. Now significantly reduced
