Silk dress for daughters wedding

Namechangefor2026 · 02/01/2026 11:41

I am 5ft 4 and 10.5 stone. I am really not very stylish but want something spectacular for my daughter’s wedding in a hot country. I have recently lost weight and will lose more beforehand i will be around 10stone hopefully. I don’t mind what the cost is as I am quite frugal usually. I would love something in bright colours and maybe for example raw silk. But open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Xx

I’d be inclined to get on a cheap flight to Malaga or Rome or the like in the spring and look there. Far better quality and style usually and you’d be more likely to find something weather appropriate.

That’s actually really good idea!!

Gorgeous. But slightly to baggy. Might work though?

I know it’s not silk, but satin. I wore this Ghost dress in forest green to a (hot country) wedding in May. It was gorgeous and I got so many compliments.

@Namechangefor2026 Jasper Conran had some beautiful silk shirt dresses last summer with lovely wide flared skirts below a sash tie waist. They had a gorgeous sapphire blue among other colours, and also has sleeves. Don’t know how to link sorry!

have a look here-I picked orange to give you a flavour but lots of gorgeous dresses at great prices.

My MOG dress is here-but North of England so not a hot beach wedding.
The quality is great!!

Weirdly I am very drawn to this and think it might be nice on. It’s not the material or colour that I was thinking off but i might order it!! Can’t remember who sent link but thanks.

It seems like something slightly different but I would be comfortable in. Kind of formal but also casual and wouldn’t look odd with nice but flat shoes.

It is a lovely dress @Namechangefor2026 but my hesitation is that is a grey january day in UK and you are wearing for a hot summer wedding.

Think it might hit differently if everyone else is bright? and might be hot?

But having said that if you are happy that's all that matters

I can’t understand why I am so drawn to it. It was not what I was looking for but sometimes things are meant to be. My main issue is it might be too long but could be adjusted maybe.

I have a lot of issues in that I don’t want to stand out too much. I want to look nice but not like I’ve tried too hard. I want to be very comfortable but also stylish. Lots of conflicting needs that are hard to balance.

I am a MOG this year so I am in the thick of all this.

What are the bridesmaids wearing?
For example if they are in butter yellow-apparently all the rage-then your dress might stand out for the wrong reasons.

I am not trying to be negative but honest.

Have a look in John Lewis, they’ve got some lovely silk dresses which have some huge reductions
I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think?

No no, not this one. Too frumpy.

Stunning ❤️

I’d be careful wearing silk in a hot climate. If you’re sweating it will show. I’d go for cotton, you can get some very fancy cotton dresses.

Allthesnowallthetime · 02/01/2026 17:19

Would you go retro?

Isometimeswonder · 02/01/2026 18:02

Also @Namechangefor2026 you can get beautiful flat sandals, metallic or bright colours etc. Rather than ballet flats which don't work with all dresses.

fruitfly3 · 02/01/2026 18:09

Just a thought on the sweat issue - I bought this recently (for an interview). I had chosen the dress I wanted to wear, felt fab but realised sweat was going to be a risk. It worked a dream. Wouldn’t wear every day but an excellent fail-safe otherwise (be careful to test in advance though). amzn.eu/d/gZHsa9H
