Style goals 2026!

Anybody care to share their style goals for the new year? 😁

As for me, I’m planning to stop the habit of saving things for best, and just dress up whenever I feel like it - life’s too short to store things for rainy days that may never come…

That’s a really good one. I’m a nightmare for saving things for a nice occasion and then they never get worn.
Mine is going to spend money on better quality items. My latest lot of lounge wear has gone bobbly within a couple of wears and already needs to be replaced. Would have been better spending more money on better quality in the first place

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/01/2026 21:27

I think that’s mine too op, I have a lot of clothes and seem to wear very few of them! Going to make a real effort not to save things, but to wear them and enjoy them.

mdinbc · 01/01/2026 21:27

I'm determined to stay stylish even while being retired and wearing very casual clothing. Keeping up with trends while staying within my comfort zone.

BangingOn · 01/01/2026 21:27

I’ve just been reading a really interesting Patreon post from Wardrobe Strategy that has made me think about New Year’s resolutions around clothes. I’m not going to set myself any unachievable goals or beat myself up over buying things, but I am going to focus on what I really need. She suggests making a note every time you wish you had something to complete an outfit and then looking for good versions of the pieces you need to join everything together.

I am also a big advocate of not saving things for best. I work from home most of the time but still dress nicely as well as comfortably as I feel better for it.

lilybloomtoo · 01/01/2026 21:28

me too!

I always think its too good for work but not casual enough for the pub. This year I am wearing it all!

lbnblbnb · 01/01/2026 21:31

To wear more colour. I have had a colour analysis done (Winter) and have swatches, but default to black too easily.

Blankscreen · 01/01/2026 21:35

I am terrible for saving things to best. It's a trait I've inherited from my mum and I fear I have passed it on to my children (growing out of their trainers and they've barely been worn).

I keep things nice and by the time I allow myself to wear them it's not as on trend.

I bought a mulberry Alexa bag when they were the bag to have and barely used it, it sat in it's dust bag. I use it now but doesn't feel the same as it would have when I bought it.

I wear horrible clothes when WFH so I really need to sort that out too.

myladyjane · 01/01/2026 22:27

Finding a sense of personal style I am happy with would be amazing. Comfortable and ā€˜put together’ (I hate that phrase but it’s what I mean). I am 51 ffs and I waste too much time and effort on things which are only good enough.

not sure how I’m going to achieve it - have had colour analysis, style consultations, Pinterest boards etc. I think I have to find some new brands and spend a bit of cash tbh. Try some different places.

linked is no spend until March unless I find a specific jumper for wfh (it’s to replace a cheap scrappy one). Considered purchases only.

Yes ā€˜wear more colour’ is also on my radar!

I want to go through my wardrobe properly as I feel like I have the classic - wardrobe full but nothing to wear issue.

In particular, I have totally lost track of what to wear to an evening out - I went to a Christmas drinks party recently and couldn't figure out what to wear at all.

More specifically - I want to figure out how to style an oversized shirt. They really appeal to me, I bought a couple and they feel lovely on but I look like a total mess with them on šŸ˜‚

I also want to wear my nice jewellery more often

shuffleofftobuffalo · 02/01/2026 08:12

Mine is also to wear my nice clothes! I’ve been in a new job with an extremely casual dress code and mostly wfh, I’ve found myself in a rut of comfy clothing at home which looks perfectly fine but makes me feel quite blah. I’ve dressed up in my nicer clothes over Xmas hols and felt much more stylish and like myself.

Sadteacher · 02/01/2026 08:18

Mine is to stop buying clothes from vinted/ charity shops just because they are a decent brand. I started doing this a couple of years ago. Now everything is lovely quality and barely any Tu clothes left, but nothing really matches. Some things don’t feel very modern. I need to have a plan!

RobinTheCavewoman · 02/01/2026 08:21

Stop wearing skanky clothes for wfh. I prioritise being warm and comfy but don't feel like myself. I need to find a solution as I wfh most days.

I've ordered a wardrobe declutter service from styled by susie as a reset. It's £75 but I feel I could easily waste that on more wrong clothes!

Have outfits that I know go together and suit me for various events (all low key - the odd office day, meeting friends for coffee etc).

This is my aim too. I'm an autumn but my wardrobe is full of black, navy and grey!

Floisme · 02/01/2026 09:07

Mine is to break more rules.

PerformativeBewilderment · 02/01/2026 09:33

@SwiftyMum21 for your bobbly gear, definitely look at getting some kind of debobbler / comb thingies. They work on all kinds of fabric, not just wool and cashmere, and cost less than a tenner.

For me, it’s to stop buying stuff from eBay. I have a bad habit of buying clothes with the idea that if it doesn’t fit I will just resell it on Vinted, but it’s got totally a bit out of control. I need to remember that just cos it’s second hand doesn’t mean it’s sustainable!

LeftoversAgain · 02/01/2026 09:50

This is so me, I wfh but just dont look my best. I do a long walk back from school but its usually yoga trousers, trainers, duffle coat with any old bobbly top underneath WHICH I THEN KEEP ON ALL DAY! I have so many lovely items which I keep to go out out. I need a happy medium as ive seen lots of freeze frames of myself on calls looking so mumsy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2026 09:51

I don’t want to buy much, but I do want to replace some basics with better quality versions- black scoop necked T-shirts and a v neck grey jumper in particular. I’m also still on the look out for a midi black tube skirt, like Whistles used to do so well.

I want to find one pair of jeans that I love, but that’s proving tricky. I want pale and slouchy, I think.

Other than that, I want to make some more skirts and dresses, now I’ve found patterns that work well for me. I still need to find a pattern for a top that I like.

Wear the good jewellery more often - yes I’m going to steal that goal too!

Progress report!: I’ve made a good start with my ā€˜don’t save the nice things for best’ plan. Today I’m wearing a navy wool Cos skirt I bought in their sale over a year ago and have only worn once previously (to a work thing). I’m at home today, just en famille, but have put on the ā€˜fancy’ skirt anyway. I’ve made it look a bit more casual by pairing it with a denim shirt. Now I’m wearing it I can think of other combinations to put it with, so hopefully I’ll be using it on rotation now as a slightly fancier alternative to jeans.

Mine is to operate a one in one out policy. I am slowly upgrading my wardrobe and trying to get rid of anything frumpy, tatty or that I don't wear. I'd rather have fewer items but like and feel good in all of them.

I'm not and will never be a capsule wardrobe person but I'm focusing on quality over quantity. So if I buy something, an existing item of clothing I own has to be sold or donated.

I've already made a good start with the few items I bought in the sales as they've replaced a skirt and two pairs of trousers that weren't quite right but still sat in my wardrobe. They're now on Vinted.

2026IsMyYear · 02/01/2026 16:54

I love these goals & i'm also aiming to wear all my gorgeous clothes more often & not save them for some unspecified occassion

Like a pp i mind them & keep them in the wardrobe & by the time i do start wearing them i'm a bit sick of them because i've been looking at them for so long

I also need to up my game on every day / weekend wear. I have a work wardrobe & loads of lovely going out stuff but v low in casual stuff to wear at weekends

I wear my good jewellery whenever i leave the house & remove it all once i'm home. I am v lucky to have beautiful rings & i adore wearing them but i won't cook / do housework etc in them

Lobleylimlam · 02/01/2026 23:02

Not so much a style goal but remember to go through clothes at least every 6 months and sell/donate what won't be worn. I have too many things and hold on to things for a 'what if' that never seems to happen.

I suppose I need more of a minamalist approach, especially as when at home I wear pjs, i dont wear 'real' clothes unless I leave the house 🤣

MakemineaGandT · 03/01/2026 20:33

Today’s progress report on the ā€˜don’t save things for best’ resolution! Today I wore a Liberty silk scarf I was given as a gift about ten years ago and have always been a little bit scared of/didn’t know what to do with. I folded it diagonally and then over and over to make a long shape about 10cm wide. Then wrapped it twice around my neck and tied in a little knot with the ends just hanging. Added a nice bit of interest to a grey cardigan/black trousers day.
How’s everyone else doing?

Teaforthetotal · 03/01/2026 21:09

Tidy my wardrobe so I can find things. Would like to look more put together for the day to day too, even if that just means matching jeans, jumpers, boots a bit better for the school run :)
