Welcome to the Toast thread where we talk about what we love, (and what drives us mad 😹), about all things Toast.

As usual, pictures are welcomed, as are comments, questions and info about Toastie topics.

I have that Mini stripe top in my basket atm @CheeseonToast2026 . Is the stripe a pale blue or navy? It’s very difficult to guess online.

ScallopShellWalk · 09/02/2026 20:59

@ShrankLastWinter thank you. I’ll do this.

CheeseonToast2026 · 09/02/2026 21:04

Im glad its not just me @ScottishMouse the navy and the trousers.
Its a lovely, simple top but I know I will get lots ofxwear out of it.

@Countmeout its a very thin, dark stripe, difficult to see if its navy or black until I get it out during the day.
Thinking navy or where does the sunwashed blue come from ?
Although we know toast can be wierd with names !

Countmeout · 09/02/2026 21:21

Thanks @CheeseonToast2026 its as I thought -the same as my Baya shirt then. It is navy I think. Not sure why they call it sunwashed blue.

hicat · 10/02/2026 09:21

Just catching up on the thread but I have the barrel cords @MsDastardley and I live in them. I wear them high waisted and the crotch seems normal on me? I got small and am usually a 10, bought them around 12 weeks preg tho (they’re still very comfy at 20 weeks!) so that doesn’t say much about sizing…

ScallopShellWalk · 10/02/2026 12:46

I have the long sleeved version of the gathered neck mini stripe shirt. Slightly different style but it’s a lovely shirt, nice material, shape and sleeves.

MsDastardley · 10/02/2026 17:04

Thanks @hicat I’ve ordered a pair today so 🤞🏻. Congratulations on your pregnancy

On the machine washing, I should add that I never wash woolens unless I absolutely can’t help it (like if the dog has peed on them…). I just hang them outside in freezing weather, of which we have plenty. Almost none of my wool or cashmere jumpers have ever been washed.

I recently bought a toast jumper from ebay which looked in perfect condition but when it arrived it was really stretched out flat in all directions and so crispy it felt like straw.

I’d never seen anything like it so I asked the seller how it had beed cared for and it turned out it had been a davourite of hers…and had been dry cleaned after every wear 😬

ShrankLastWinter · 13/02/2026 06:55

Oh that’s horrible! Tragic!

IlovePond · 13/02/2026 06:55

@TheBogPeople - oh my goodness! I hope you have been able to get a refund!

@Primrosespaw agree wholeheartedly. I teach too and wearing my TOAST clothes at work feels very much like my - lovely - uniform. And I know that I’ll feel good all day!

@ScallopShellWalk me too! I love it so so much. Annoyingly it’s too cold to wear it at the moment, I’m living in muji roll necks which do look good under some toast shirts but not the gathered neck on. Can’t wait for nicer weather. Though my mum made a lovely dinner with lots of turmeric in it and as I was serving my nieces the dangling strings dangled in the turmeric sauce 🫣. It’s fading over time, but still somewhat luminous!

it was here I learned about not washing woolens. I bought me and dp a toast wool cashmere jumper each two christmasses ago and we just hang them out for freshness. They’re still as soft as the day they arrived. No baubling! Wish I could buy more colours.

(oh no a quote I replied to earlier but didn’t sent got attached to this, so I’ll edit to contextualise! I basically told a story about teaching an art class in favourite beige trousers and a student accidentally spilt a pot of black ink down my front! Poor student was so embarrassed I pretended it would wash out but ended up dying them black).

ScallopShellWalk · 13/02/2026 08:15

@hicat I wear the shirt under a tank, though yes it’s even sometimes a bit cold for that. I am sure the turmeric will fade but funny nice story 😁.

CheeseonToast2026 · 13/02/2026 08:45

My bitter chocolate sweater arrived and its gorgeous

ScottishMouse · 13/02/2026 10:09

I ordered the sleeveless stripe blouse mentioned a little up thread and it arrived yesterday. It is soooooo long. I am not tall but for me it just does not work at all. Which is such a shame as otherwise it is lovely. The neck isn’t as high as the long sleeve version which I find more flattering. It will look great on someone, but not me. Someone less pale too - the colour washes me out terribly so it would probably not have been a keeper even if the length had been ok.
I also ordered the linen silk wrap shirt in navy having swooned over it since it arrived. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I think I am between sizes. I tried the M in store but the design of the sleeves meant I couldn’t easily lift my arms without it rising up too much. The L is much better in this regard but it billows too much at the back and is a couple of inches too long. Glad I can put it out of my mind in a way.

Oh no @ScottishMouse

Its annoying Toast dont do a petite, regular and long range in some of their things
Not a huge Seasalt fan-too patterny but at least they know that different heights mean different proportions.

TosstTastic · 13/02/2026 10:17

@ScottishMouse you must leave a full detailed review on the website so you are not tempted come sale time. Your future self will thank you and you can concentrate on previously unconsidered bargains.

ScottishMouse · 13/02/2026 10:41

This is a very good point @TosstTastic!!

It is still so cold there am tempted to buy another knit. I don’t actually have very many having cleared out quite a few at the beginning of the season. Looking at the mohair cotton sweater in honey (the green would probably suit me better but I never wear green), and the lofty alpaca mix open cardigan in chestnut though I never wear brown. Does anyone have either and can sing their praises? Or do I just need to buy one of the cashmere wool wrap scarves and cocoon myself in that?

Brillenbar47 · 13/02/2026 12:50

@ScottishMouse have a look at the knitwear on soeur and Margaret Howell sale. There is a cardigan on soeur that looks very similar to tge grey cardigan everyone had problems with the buttonholes.

OrangeyLemon · 13/02/2026 13:18

I have the lofty alpaca open cardigan and it is so warm and cosy! I sized up btw

MsDastardley · 13/02/2026 13:55

@ScottishMouse I also have the open alpaca cardigan but in green. It’s a lovely muted colour. I bought last year and it has been my most worn piece of knitwear. Not washed it yet.

The barrel leg cords I ordered arrived yesterday and I love the. Based on feedback from this group I sized down. I ordered small although I am size 12. They are fab. I’ve already ordered another pair!

I also ordered the railroad skirt. Should have gone with my instinct instead of the size guide. I ordered the medium but it is massive. The fabric isn’t what a I expected either, sort of a heavier poplin with two fine stripes. I do like it so shall reorder.

TheBogPeople · 13/02/2026 14:33

I’m really liking some of the new workwear, it makes a nice change from navy cotton and I thunk its much nicer than the blue and red ‘pantry theme’ items.

TheBogPeople · 13/02/2026 14:38

IlovePond · 13/02/2026 06:55

@TheBogPeople - oh my goodness! I hope you have been able to get a refund!

No, I could have done but it wasn’t priced very high (for a Toast jumper!) so I washed it, reknitted the broken bind off on the neckline (I live near the mill that makes the yarn it is made of) and its fine now, just a bit larger and floppier than it should be!

IlovePond · 13/02/2026 14:42

Glad you were able to salvage it @TheBogPeople - and that you can knit and could find the right 🧶 Your seller was lucky you didn’t mind too much!

@ScottishMouse i have just ordered the green mohair jumper. I have had it on my wish list since it appeared. I can post a review when it arrives.

ScottishMouse · 13/02/2026 17:04

@Primrosespaw i just dropped into Toast on my way home and tried the mohair jumper. Was hoping to try the alpaca cardigan too but they no longer have it in store :( The jumper was lovely but the colour didn’t do much for me although I love it to look at. I didn’t try the green, as I never wear green these days, although I used to in years gone by. Maybe I should try it.
it was also crazy warm in the store (or maybe that was me because I had walked there quickly from work and was wearing a big coat), and I started to wonder if buying a knit at this stage in the year is silly.
