Welcome to the Toast thread where we talk about what we love, (and what drives us mad 😹), about all things Toast.

As usual, pictures are welcomed, as are comments, questions and info about Toastie topics.

Talking of wool- yesterday I visited Manos del Uruguay in Montevideo. They make some of the Toast knitwear eg £450 red sweater in the current collection. Beautifully soft yarns in gorgeous colours. I purchased a couple of scarves, a snood and a hat - happy days!

Well! Our lovely postie delivered a card from
Toast, that tells me I am once again, a ‘valued member of our community’ and a member of Kindred.

If membership is not to do with spend I will eat my Decho sun hat. 2024 was a year of spending less at Toast, but that wasn’t the case in 2025 - it was spendy!

Anyway, I am currently delighting in my Suki jeans and can highly recommend the cord barrel legs to @MsDastardley.

IlovePond · 08/02/2026 11:47

Wow @ShanghaiDiva - how lovely! What were prices like?

Wow @ShanghaiDiva - how lovely! What were prices like?

I paid £128 in total for the four items- all merino wool. They had beautiful linen items eg trousers for £40, sweaters starting at £100.

ScottishMouse · 08/02/2026 12:47

What is a woolie horse? I am intrigued!
I also never wash knitwear. I never wear it next to my skin, and I use freshening it outside on a very cold day method. Sometimes a wee spray with a wool freshener, and that is it.

IlovePond · 08/02/2026 13:17

That’s good @ShanghaiDiva

I’m now thinking it would be cheaper to fly to Uruguay than buy stuff from Toast 😹

Its for blocking knitwear into shape, particularly Fairisle @ScottishMouse

Personally I prefer to pin and block myself
I gently soak in water with a spot of baby shampoo, rinse and roll in a towel

I then place on a foam blocking board and a large towel, pin into shape and leave to dry.

My cat loves it too 😼

I find it really soothing for some reason

Let's gofund @IlovePond on a buying trip.
I bloody love my two Manos tanks and the black & white wrap, is instinctively reached for when ever someone sits in that corner of the sofa.

I need more.

I also have a Manos tank; colours are so vibrant.

Steve and Viv from Race Across the World are there at the moment. I wonder could they bring some back ! 🤣

I didn't know about this! I was in Montevideo two years ago . . . wish I'd known 😃

MsDastardley · 08/02/2026 16:38

I was disappointed with my Manos tank as the ribbing became really loose. I ended up selling it, the person who bought it was delighted with it. The wool was lovely though

You can buy Manos in the Uk
LoveCrafts and LaugingHens stock it

Im pretty disappointed Toast have gone to this because its cheaper rather than supporting one of the British wool suppliers.

For that reason Ive gone over to other brands plus I knit my own

ShrankLastWinter · 08/02/2026 19:02

I have one of those multicolored jumpers from Uruguay and it’s a thing of beauty. Maybe a trip is in order!

Primrosespaw · 08/02/2026 20:09

I have the galaxy manos tank and beanie hat bought in the sale. I have bought their spaced dyed merino franca wool from Laughing Hens multiple times and made blankets, shawls and scarves. My lovely mum who is her 80s made me a beautiful long knitted jacket in beautiful franca wool. It is like wearing a cozy blanket. Total cost of wool was about £200, but it would be triple that if bought from Toast. I wish I were better at knitting, I would make all sorts. They do such stunning space dyed combinations.
I really want to go to Uruguay now!

ScallopShellWalk · 09/02/2026 11:44

@CheeseonToast2026 may I ask if that pic is of your jumper board (woolie horse)? And if so where you got it from. You mentioned a foam board, is that different from this wooden looking one in the pic? I’m really curious about these. Thank you.

Hi no thats not mine, just a picture I found

People use various things to block , including those foam mats used for yoga
I bought one of those childrens play mats that you fit together like a jigsaw for about £7 years and years ago plus special blocking pins
As mentioned my cat thinks its for her to sit on !
I do a lot of lace detail/ lace yokes and it blocks them out nicely

ScallopShellWalk · 09/02/2026 12:06

@CheeseonToast2026 thank you for filling me in. I hadn’t thought about it that way. It’s really useful.
I was also thinking about how to hang a jumper outside in the cold. Do you use these outside?

Ive no idea about hanging knitwear out in the cold , Ive never done it
@ScallopShellWalk

I cant bear the ozone cold smell on cold laundry

ScallopShellWalk · 09/02/2026 19:19

@CheeseonToast2026 thank you. 😊 I’ve seen pics of the woolie horse outside, maybe there’s another way.

ShrankLastWinter · 09/02/2026 20:25

I just hang jumpers outside on their hangers

CheeseonToast2026 · 09/02/2026 20:33

Disappointment Sad

The wide leg crinkle cotton trousers are HUGE in a medium , fit on the waist but look like clown trousers on my bottom half
Bear in mind I am a 12 with hips and bum aplenty.

The cotton/ linen fine knit sweater is a nice shape but a french navy not a dark navy

I find a french navy looks cheap and its the sort of jumper you could find for £60 or so in a well known high st shop so back its going .

Then I noticed that the cotton/ linen easy sweater comes in Bitter Chocolate so have ordered that instead to wear with my ecru denim skirt and ecru Annies.
My 3rd one and I notice there is an article regarding this design on the website which was quite interesting

My last item the Mini stripe cotton top is lovely and a keeper, lovely crisp cotton and the dark buttons really elevate it .
I sized down to a 10 and its plenty roomy

ScottishMouse · 09/02/2026 20:39

I also can’t abide a navy that is not dark and truly navy @CheeseonToast2026. I tried the crinkle trousers last week and thought the fabric was very thin and a bit cheap feeling.
I am also interested in the mini stripe top, so thanks for the sizing advice. I may order this soon.
