Welcome to the Toast thread where we talk about what we love, (and what drives us mad 😹), about all things Toast.

As usual, pictures are welcomed, as are comments, questions and info about Toastie topics.

@ToastCosILoveIt ❤️❤️❤️
is that the still one? It’s very striking and looked amazing online when it was in shadows. Looked like light and shadow were cast onto the dress. Toast do have nice patterns. You must look good in it, catching people’s eye.

Hi, yes that’s the one. I think the print catches the eye. It’s a thin dress, not lined, but it is lovely fabric and a wrap with a button to the front that preserves modesty.

ScallopShellWalk · 22/01/2026 11:39

Well that’s my final sale parcel arrived, the Japanese slim trousers and I am keeping them too. They are a really good fit and I love the colour. The shorter leg is new for me but I like it. @OftenOrange seems I like mine in the way you like yours, thank you for the comment. They are not clingy on me either but neither are they baggy. Fit comfortable at the waist as I wondered if they’d be too tight but it’s good. Still room to lose weight and they’d still be nice. I’m really pleased, now I have nice dark good quality jeans. I like the straight leg. I hope they last a long time 😊

ScallopShellWalk · 22/01/2026 11:41

@ToastCosILoveIt the dress sounds lovely. It’ll be nice going into milder weather too if it’s not heavy. It does look amazing. 😊 it’s lovely to get nice things for less in the sale. Did you look at it before or did it catch your eye in the sale?

ToastCosILoveIt · 22/01/2026 11:57

Hi, I’d seen it before but it was silly money. The sale made it better value, expensive still but a special dress.

The dappled leaves print dress is going back. I knew it was a gamble for me as the colours don’t suit me particularly and I was right. It also felt matronly on me although appreciate it doesn’t have that vibe on Gwen, the model (nothing does :) ). It s lovely dress but not for me.

IlovePond · 22/01/2026 16:03

I think @ScallopShellWalk and @OftenOrange you are both much taller than me. I’ve got ludicrously short legs for my height! I actually look quite tall sitting down and then there’s this weird optical illusion as I seem to shrink when I stand up 😹

The Japanese slim trousers were far too long for me even with the bottoms turned up at the cuff. Glad they worked out for you as they seemed very well made.

OP posts:
ScallopShellWalk · 22/01/2026 16:35

@IlovePond my back is short but my legs are long for my height. I’m 5’2 and half 😃 prob have around 30” (sometimes I buy 32”) in trousers length. So I guess I look shorter sitting down than standing 😆. I struggle with dresses often as they are so much longer on me and trousers often need taking up. But these new cropped styles are fab for me. I’m not usually taller than anyone so it’s nice when someone thinks I might be, I can dream. 🤗
yes the trousers seem well made.

IlovePond · 22/01/2026 17:35

Interesting @ScallopShellWalk - I am taller than you but my leg length - I think - is 27/28!

OP posts:
faustina · 22/01/2026 19:16

I'd never thought of body height vs leg length before. I must have a long body as I'm 5'4 and very short legs as I'd typically look for 26/27, but in that case, how come high waisted anything is always way too high on me? I'm confused!

Lots of new things on reworn and I've just ordered a pair of indigo twill Alix trousers from there. I slightly miss the pair I used to have

Abdnshireoutdoorsy · 22/01/2026 19:37

@ScottishMouse I wear 2XS (size 8) Huxley beyond nine trousers but they are snug fitting at the waist so if I wanted to be more comfortable I could maybe size up There’s so much room at the hips (which is normally my issue) that I’m a size smaller than I’d normally buy (10). The waist measurements on the size chart (scroll down) worked for me.

For the toast cord barrel legs the XS fit at the waist but I’d have needed the S for the space at the hips.

TosstTastic · 22/01/2026 22:17

I have sent support emojis to the last few posters trying to marry fairly standard proportions to the continuing mystery of Toast sizing.
Thank you for your reviews, your discussions, the general input that is trying to establish perfection to the randomness of humanity.

IlovePond · 23/01/2026 11:10

Morning all!

Last sale order:

Donegal tank ok - but much shorter than it looked online and felt a bit ‘oily’ - going back.

Blue cord lopsided dress - lovely colour but a bit tight on the chest and huge elsewhere. It fitted nicely on the shoulders. Nevertheless, I quite liked it, but too pricy for it not to be perfect - going back.

Shift heavy cotton/linen dress - a surprise hit. DH hates Toast but actually said this looked nice. It’s a bit big and I will be miffed if it stretches/goes baggy, but I am taking a chance on keeping it as it’s surprisingly flattering.

Does anyone have this and, if so, how do you find it? How does it wash? How to store it? (I worry that putting it on a hanger will stretch it!)

I think I am keeping it but if anyone has answers to the above, would appreciate it! Thanks.

IlovePond · 23/01/2026 11:15

Just realised it’s due to my ridiculously long body/short legs combo, (see above 😹), that the Donegal tank was quite long on super-tall Gwen and short on me despite the huge height difference!

Thanks for the Beyond Nine sizing advice ladies. Am going to take a proper look this weekend and place an order.

Abdnshireoutdoorsy · 23/01/2026 13:42

I think it was someone on here who mentioned extending the elastic in their Le Bonne Shoppe trousers ( @CakeAndJazz, @Snowyowl78, was it one of you?) - whoever it was, thank you for the idea! I’ve just added an extra 3cm of elastic to the waistband and it’s made them so much more comfortable and was far easier to do compared with adjusting my Gabi trousers where the elastic is sewn in to the waistband (there I shortened the rise and it’s worked but doesn’t look as professional as I’d like).

CakeAndJazz · 24/01/2026 11:59

What a week. @Snowyowl78 the FM trainers arrived Thursday but have just managed a try on now. I think they feel (and look) too big. The fit and shape of the shoe feels very different to the other/usual style that Toast stock, possibly more rigid, so I can see how people found it tight. I suspect my usual size will be too small, I really dislike cramped toes.

@Abdnshireoutdoorsy not me, I have absolutely zero sewing skills, but I was singing the praises of the arcs on here recently. Really glad you fixed them up to be perfect for you.

ScottishMouse · 24/01/2026 13:26

Full of a January cold here, so staying cosy and doing some online browsing. I had a wardrobe clear out the other day and really want to stick to a very edited down wardrobe of things I love that mix and match easily.
I gave up on jeans years ago but miss them. I have never tried Annies or Ashleys as I can never get on with fixed waist trousers at Toast (or anywhere really since developing a ridiculous menopause middle), but I notice they have a little elastane. Would they work at all for someone with small hips & bum but large belly?
Also looking at Margaret Howell’s sale offerings. I have never bought or tried anything there. I know there are some fans here. How does sizing compare with Toast - not for trousers but for knitwear and tees?
Thanks!!

Snowyowl78 · 24/01/2026 13:47

@Abdnshireoutdoorsy not me but I would like to do that! I have the L that fit but I think they look too baggy and the M that are marginally tight on the waist. How did you do it?
@CakeAndJazz sorry to hear they don’t fit! Will you try for a 38? I want to try them but they are still £190!!

There’s a very handy seam at the back waistband - it’s not normally this easy. I used a seam ripper to open it up just on the inside and then you can pull on the elastic a bit to get it out. Snip the elastic and used the sewing machine on zig zag stitch to sew in some additional elastic (I first tried around 7cm but that was too loose so ended up with 4cm ish) then hand sewed the waistband seam back up.

There was also an almost invisible seam at the sides which makes it so the elastic doesn’t twist - I removed one side, got the elastic basically even again, and re-sewed it.

Snowyowl78 · 24/01/2026 14:34

Thanks @Abdnshireoutdoorsy , you are very clever. This sounds above my skill set haha

clearsky · 25/01/2026 13:19

I bought a pair of the Sculpted Indigo Denim Trousers this week. They are definitely wide with plenty of fabric. I had to size down so I think they come up big. I am 172cm and the length is full and just right for me. I really like them but maybe not for everyone.

CakeAndJazz · 25/01/2026 14:47

@Snowyowl78 I wear trainers so much, and considering they’re waterproof, they could be a really useful pair to have. I’d like to try the 38, but you’re right that they’re still v pricey and would have to be a perfect fit.

BettinaInDenmark · 26/01/2026 09:01

I was lucky! A pair of the Deco Geo pajama trousers were available, when I called cs last week, so they are hopefully nos on their way to me - along with the Dappled Leaves Print Dress and a knot bag, both of which I didn't get while the sale was on.
I got the Dapples Leaves shirt earlier in the sale, and I really love it. So hopefully the dress will be nice too.

ToastCosILoveIt · 26/01/2026 17:14

Fellow Toasties, who has the round neck mohair cardigan from the sale. I changed the medium for the large and was all set to keep it, but I’m now dithering.

It’s a beautiful and solid piece of knitwear but it’s still expensive in the sale (£175) and I’m wondering how hard it will work. it’s very thick, so super warm, and the barring sleeves make it unwearable under a snug fitting coat. I wondered about wearing it in spring and autumn in place of a coat when it’s not raining. I don’t know, I craved it but common sense is now telling me no.

ScottishMouse · 26/01/2026 17:20

I bought it and returned it @ToastCosILoveIt. For the reason you say - didn’t fit under a coat - I also thought about wearing in place of a coat in spring, but decided I probably wouldn’t as it was too warm. I also found it a tad itchy at the neck unless I had a high neck top underneath, and I wouldn’t be wearing one of those in spring. And the too big buttonholes were too annoying. I still love the look of it, but it just wouldn’t have got enough wear in my wardrobe. Not sure that is helpful to you.

OrangeyLemon · 26/01/2026 18:49

I kept the round neck mohair cardi as it was too lovely to send back. I have a loosish coat I can get over it. It is expensive it’s true, but I think it looks and feels like good quality and the charcoal is very wearable. I can see why you would want to send it back though, especially as the lovely spring items are starting to come in.
