I haven't got one, but I see them around. Not always on wankers either 😂.

I'd wear one if I thought they'd keep me really dry and warm tbh...especially just for dog walks.

Cat1504 · 28/12/2025 22:42

I have been contemplating this too….I always said never ever ever….yet here I am clicking on your thread for inspiration

UnimaginableWindBird · 28/12/2025 22:47

I have one that I bought for swimming, but now wear as a normal coat on cold, wet, windy days. Or when I want a lot of pocket capacity. I don't have a dog, but it is warm, dry, roomy and you can fit a huge amount in the pockets, so is probably ideal for dog walking.

UnimaginableWindBird · 28/12/2025 22:48

It's not an actual detective, though. Mine is by Wild Moose, which I think look a bit nicer (and have great pockets).

Mmimmyokay · 28/12/2025 22:48

Are there any nice not the camo ones on sale atm?

Barrellturn · 28/12/2025 22:50

I think if you live by a marina it is very acceptable.

JDM625 · 28/12/2025 22:53

OP- have you ever tried walking in an actual dry robe? They are massive as designed large to be able to change clothes underneath. DH and I have them because we swim in the sea almost daily. I only wear it to/from the sea. No way would I walk the dog or walk elsewhere in it. No only due to the dry robe wanker aspect, but mainly because the base is very large, so it can be tricky to see your feet and easy to trip on uneven ground.

Some brands do make slim line versions which aren't as massive as designed more as a coat than a changing robe. I'd look those up if you want it for walking.

lochmaree · 28/12/2025 22:56

I have a two barefeet one and love it. 😊

GloriousGiftBag · 28/12/2025 22:58

I couldn't walk the dog in mine as it is very warm and I'd get sweaty quickly! The oversized arms are tricky to manouvere in too.

I do wear mine as a coat for watching football etc though so not judging in principle

I don't do off road type stuff. We walk round the marina and its paved. All very even footed.

Anyone know of a cosy raincoat then 😔

They are massive. I bought one but sent it back as most of my dog walks involve a car journey first and I don’t think I’d get my seat belt fastened and be able to drive.

There is a FB page devoted to dry robe wankers of course.

Cannedlaughter · 28/12/2025 23:12

I’ve got one , walk the dog in it and love it. I love that it’s roomy and very cosy.

Uptownfunkywat · 28/12/2025 23:13

I have a beachbum one for dog walking and LOVE it. Before this I had a long puffer and I would get boiling or freezing depending on the weather. Now I just stay the same temperature I am when I leave the house - it’s especially good when it’s windy and rainy keeps me toastie and dry

NormasArse · 28/12/2025 23:16

It’s like going out in your duvet on cold, wet mornings.

Mine’s a Wild Moose- I’ve had it for about 5 years and I love it!

So much, I even wear it after sea swimming!

Quincette · 28/12/2025 23:17

I don’t get the snobbery around them. Loads of people wear them as far as I can see. They look a bit overwhelming to walk about in, but I’ve never tried one.

TheChosenTwo · 28/12/2025 23:25

I’m not sure mine would keep me warm enough on a walk, I have one because I’m an outdoor swimmer, i put it on as soon as I get out of the water, whip off my cossie underneath it and drive home wearing it,
praying I don’t get in an accident and need rescuing/cutting out of my robe to reveal immediate nakedness 😂 it’s fantastic for what I need it for but it’s really massive and would be way too flappy letting in a lot of cold air if i wore it as a regular coat for walking I think?
my wunderpuff from Lulu lemon is my warmest jacket, I don’t have the long one just the standard jacket.

Anxietyspiral · 28/12/2025 23:31

I've got 3! 🫣

I'm also a Croc wanker, tent box wanker, Ugg wanker, and several other wankerish choices. I couldn't care less. Whatever you do or wear, someone will think you're a wanker so just pick one that you enjoy.

My favourite dry robe is a cheap one from OHS but its lovely and warm.

I seem to see them everywhere at the moment, personally I think everyone looks like blobs wearing them. They’re just so horribly unflattering and I’m yet to see someone look good in one. I’ve used one when I’ve been in and out of the sea or the lake as there’s never anywhere to change out of my wetsuit. It wouldn’t keep me warm enough for dog walks and the likes and I would find it too awkward to wear.

I'm not really interested in looking good, just staying warm and dry.

I got one from out local tresspassoutlet so it’s not a branded dryrobe. I walk in mind just fine as I do most mornings before work. I also wear it to watch the DC play rugby. Fantastic for cold Saturdays on the touchline watching them play.

BobblyBobbleHat · 29/12/2025 06:49

I've got a Regatta equivalent for forest walks and looking after our ducks each morning. I don't care about looking good when I'm doing those things, but it is warm enough, light enough and waterproof enough to protect my clothes underneath and keep me cosy. I find it very practical.

Try Delta Roam - these are slimmer than the usual dry robes, have huge zipped pockets and are very waterproof as well as warm. I wear mine for dog walking and camping.

Seasidewalker · 29/12/2025 10:30

I've got a Weirdfish version which i got in the sale, it's useful in our campervan for taking the dog out for last/ first wee trips. I can just put it over whatever I'm wearing and it keeps me dry. I sometimes use it for last garden trips at home if it's raining.

Like others I'm not concerned about what others might think of me in one!

Mumteedum · 29/12/2025 10:33

I have an outdoor oodie which is not a dry robe but is like them. It's MASSIVE. I love it though. Huge pockets and super cosy. But I do walk slowly. If you are fit and healthy and get a good pace going on your dog walks you might do better with a normal coat.
