Well Ive got to the age when I dont give a damn what other people think. If I had a dog to walk I would wear what suited me and kept me warm and dry. Somehow I dont think the dog would notice or complain. And I would care more for my dog than some nosy random I happened to pass on the way.

Middlechild3 · 30/12/2025 17:03

Go for it. They are the most waterproof and windproof thing going. I have one for water sports but its the best. Dog walkers are out in all weathers so all good.

I’ve got one , walk the dog in it and love it. I love that it’s roomy and very cosy.

We all have one - and yes walk the dogs, do the horses, stand around at rugby training, use them after swimming or long country walks etc

cobrakaieaglefang · 30/12/2025 19:06

Im 5ft 3" on a good day, I'd look like a walking mushroom! Far too long..

Mmimmyokay · 30/12/2025 19:17

I ordered a seasalt coat in a 12 and 14 (im a 10) so will see how they feel. I just eanted a baggy coat

I bought mine a size smaller and wear it to walk my dog. I’m warm and dry, don’t care if I end up on the wankers FB page! If they made trousers I’d wear those too!

UnimaginableWindBird · 30/12/2025 23:14

@KellsBells7 they don't make trousers, but Cuddler make trousers that are basically dryrobes for your legs.

I cringe when I see people walking their dogs in the countryside wearing a dry robe. Sorry but just not classy. Okay on a beach though.

Why so judgmental? It's a coat. Does it matter. Get over yourself, cringing and looking down your nose at others who are just out enjoying a walk.

DriveVerySlowlyPastNumber23IWantThemToSeeMyHat · 31/12/2025 07:21

I've got one and wear it daily. It's huge but warm. I don't care what I look like but I've had several compliments 🙂

LlynTegid · 31/12/2025 07:21

I appreciate if you live in Brighton it is obligatory unless you get special dispensation, but elsewhere other brands are available and you don't need to go on daily lake or sea swims.

They're walking in the countryside, not having a session at The Ritz. Get over yourself 😂

Blankscreen · 31/12/2025 07:44

Get an Equidry or Rein coat.
(Equestrian brands,)
Le mieux also do a similar style.
Similar waterproofness and warmth but designed for moving in not changing in.

You also won't be called a wanker 😂

They are looked down on in the area in which I live. Fortunately it is rare to see one being worn here.

Mumofyellows · 31/12/2025 08:19

I have a stable skin coat which I wear for dog walks and for being around the yard with my horse and it’s the warmest, driest thing ever, my husband even borrows it to go and watch football and it keeps you bone dry. They do come up huge though, not the most stylish but when I’m dog walking 2 muddy labs or poo picking a horse field in not fussed what I look like!

UnimaginableWindBird · 31/12/2025 08:21

Honestly, I am a bit shocked by the profligacy of people who think that you should buy a dryrobe for swimming and then a different brand of warm hooded waterproof coat for dog walking. It seems like a ridiculous waste of money, resources, and space just because you don't want some random stranger to think less of you, and just strikes me as insecure.

Periperi2025 · 31/12/2025 08:22

I have one for use as intended, but I've never used it for any other purpose (except for when i had to sit on the corridor all day in A&E on a drip when i had flu), it is a cheap aldi one though, so i wouldn't even be a 'cool' dry robe wanker, which would be even more tragic!!

And how classy is judging people for the coat they choose to wear?

I’ll never understand how some people can be so wankerish over dry robes. Get over yourselves!

OP I wear a seasalt coat for dog walking, it’s good. I also steal DH’s dry robe (different brand, no idea which) on occasion, which is a whole different level of protection from the elements. I think because it’s big, it’s like wearing a tent which keeps the wind and rain entirely away from you.

Seasidewalker · 31/12/2025 08:39

I'm amused by how many presumably grown woman care what random strangers think of them! AND feel that it's their place to tell others what they should or shouldn't wear.

I wear Crocs with my (fake) dry robe too though so I guess I'm a lost (but comfortable) cause 🤣

Nannyfannybanny · 31/12/2025 08:58

I wouldn't be able to walk out dogs in one, I wear a jacket, usually a parka, but we have border collies,so we are in woods, forests, and the downs,I couldn't get over Stiles. I have a friend who wears a very long coat, but she has a pug only walks around town.. agree about the driving, rarely do that in even a jacket, feels like being indoors wearing one.

distinctpossibility · 31/12/2025 09:03

I have a Regatta kids one, age 9 to 13 I think it is. Unashamedly wear it as a coat, it's like walking around in a dressing gown. Also, being kid-sized it avoids tripping over / being too bulky and was only about £40.

Please tell us where you live so we can avoid 🙃 Some people have too much time on their hands.

Because dryrobes just aren’t practical for some people 🤷🏼‍♀️. In my case, they’re great when I get out of the water especially when I’m in and out and need to stay warm between. However, for everything else they’re totally impractical. They’re just too big and bulky and I personally find a regular coat more warm and wind proof. I’m extremely short and petite so use a kids one but it’s still far too awkward.

I mostly wear what I like. I think most people do care what strangers think of them when they're out and about.
I have a 'dry robe' for getting out of the lake/river. I also have a proper walking coat for hiking etc. I have had that coat since the mid 90s. A dryrobe would be far too flappy for walking (handy for a wild wee though).

I was looking at one on the Lands End website last night . It was about £60 in the sale . Good reviews .
