Can I nip on your thread for a spot of advice -has anyone used both the Medik8 crystal retinal 6 and also the AB retinal serum -any idea which is best for a beginner? Sorry -long time lurker here but I really enjoy your thoughts and the honest advice on using things

I've used both, I prefer medik8's and felt that I could really see a difference, plus it's a lot cheaper. I would say that neither of these are good for beginners, start with medik8 level 3 and work up to medik8 level 6 and / or ab's retinal serum 🙂

To me, "My surprise has been spoiled today." reads snarky and not polite. I would like to apologise if it was me derailing the tread, and if 7 am is the agreement I would respect that and make my choices on participating or not (not by annoying people by breaking the rules) It wasn't listed as rule in the first post. It is wonderful advent and should be enjoyed vs back and forward. Enjoyed by all who were lucky enough to have it - even those who dared to share the excitement at 6:15.

I liked Paula's choice retinol treatment but I am tretinion user so they are all little mild for me. I have used and like Medik8 and AB, did not get on with DE retinol product at all, and they usually work for me.

Thank you for taking my post in the spirit it was intended.

I agree it’s a wonderful calendar and we are all very lucky - I had SpaceNK last year and so far, this years is outshining it for me.

I am away for a few days next weekend and won’t be lugging my calendar with me, but will still enjoy the thread (and spoilers of what I have when I get home!), it’s a real boost seeing everyone’s excitement and is one of the best parts of Christmas for me. Life is hard for everyone right now, and these little moments of joy are so nice to witness. I already know I’ll be sad when it’s over!

SocksAndTheCity · 04/12/2025 09:31

I just don't look at the thread until I've opened mine, and I assumed that's what everybody else did too 😳

More serum is always good for me, especially in winter. I'll have to look this one up - I think I had their vitamin C one in a calendar a few years ago and that was good 👍

BlueLimes · 04/12/2025 09:35

maybe we can just share excitement before 7 but not do spoilers? No one shoujd feel they need to leave - let’s enjoy the calendar 😊

I don’t mind an abstract it’s a fab day (likely a serum/miraculous hair product), it’s a good day ( perfume/hand cream), it’s a DOD (black eyeliner/ pillow spray) type post !

Obviously not specifying what it is like I have - that was just me measure of fab/ good/DOD…

Good plan!x

SocksAndTheCity · 04/12/2025 09:46

I like pillow spray @BlueLimes ! 🤣

Make up (and to a lesser extent perfume) are the DoDs for me, although I don't mind the odd bit.

nearly61 · 04/12/2025 09:48

Thank you @JoRaRaRa and @MiaN I think I’ll store mine for now and get the Medik8 3 to start with. Much appreciated x

Tbh I don’t - probably worse thing is a black eyeliner or a gold nail polish or elasticizer !!

I love a boujee black eyeliner 🤣 has to be a pen though, pencils... nahhh!!

Evergreen21 · 04/12/2025 09:50

I am very much enjoying this calendar. I haven't used this item before but am interested in its use.

I'm another that doesn't open the thread until I've opened my advent calendars. I wholeheartedly agree with @MiaN.

I hope the person that posted first today isn't put off posting again.

NessShaness · 04/12/2025 09:55

Oh god, the Elasticizer! In every beauty box I’ve ever had. It does absolutely nothing for my hair.

Black eyeliner is my DOD. I don’t mind a brown though!

I like the elasticizer, but it doesn't belong in a £150+ AC 🤔

bigdecisionstomake · 04/12/2025 10:22

Elasticizer, black eyeliner and pillow spray also my DODs - as well as tools - remember the year gua shas or jade rollers were everywhere? 😂

I love a random perfume or some new make up to try though and pretty much anything skincare is right up my street.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 04/12/2025 10:31

@nearly61 - the AB serum is not as strong as the Medik8 retinal 6.
i would start with the AB first.
Last year I had the Paula’s Choice retinol serum in the Cult Beauty advent and my skin really struggled with it, even though I’d previously used tretinoin.

WeAreBorg · 04/12/2025 10:39

@BlueLimes HAND CREAM IS A GOOD DAY? We will have none of that nonsense on this thread please 😂

madcatterlady · 04/12/2025 11:28

I am very excited about this Medik8 Peptide serum. I am not the biggest fan of layering serums, (although with the amount I am accumulating I might have to soon!), I will use it on my non retinol days as a soothing complimentary anti-aging serum. I usually buy peptide serums from The Ordinary, so looking forward to using this one; I am also using a retinol serum from Medik8 and really like it.

I am also using Medik8 3 right now and despite having a very sensitive skin my skin has tolerated it really well (but I have been using other mild retinol products before). It also has great cream like consistency which I find hydrating. Hope this helps.

Just don’t look at the thread if you haven’t opened yet, it’s not that hard

If you are watching the thread it is very easy to be spoiled because you can see previews of the last 2 posts. Obviously you can just not open mn at all but ‘just don’t look at the thread’ doesn’t work for a lot of people.

NessShaness · 04/12/2025 12:24

Did I see someone keeping a running total of the cost of items received so far?

Surely we’re already over the cost of the calendar itself?

£259, tomorrow will tip it over 🎉 brilliant, I love it when you break even in the first few days. I need to work out Harrods without spoiling that one as well for myself 🙈🤣

Thanks for that! It really does feel good to know we’re breaking even on day five!

All of the products so far have felt really luxurious to me!
