These shoes with tights? Old fashioned?

Trying to get sorted for a Christmas party night with colleagues.

Have a black embellished velvet dress that sits a couple of inches above the knee that I’ve only worn once so hoping to rewear that. I don’t like bare legs or nude tights so I was thinking sheet black tights and some kind of closed toe heels. Do these shoes look old fashioned? I’m 35, have no idea what’s in style anymore and haven’t been “out out” since last Christmas 🤣🤣

They do look dated, yes. Have a look at Esska.

owlpassport · 27/11/2025 17:49

They're fine, but a little boring.

FastTurtle · 27/11/2025 17:51

I think they look lovely.

Sidebeforeself · 27/11/2025 17:52

The shoes are fine but the sheer black tights with them would look dated

Or don’t because OP is looking at spending under £30 and anything from there is going to be ~£170??

They’re fine. Maybe a little safe but that’s not a bad thing because sounds like the dress is the statement and your feet will thank you for the mid height block heel.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 27/11/2025 17:58

Yes, they do look dated and black sheer black tights won’t help

WookieMama · 27/11/2025 18:00

Monsoon Sometimes have good ESSKA style shoes with block heel and a bit of a platform that would fit the bill and look good with tights, worth a look OP.

BillieWiper · 27/11/2025 18:01

You need a smaller heel and either a square or pointier toe. They look kind of boring tbh. And aging.

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 27/11/2025 18:03

I’m 35 too and I think they’re lovely 🤷🏼‍♀️

JDM625 · 27/11/2025 18:04

The shoes aren't the best IMO.

If I had those shoes or similar, I'd wear a nude tights only- black, even sheer black, would be dreadful. Almost akin to wearing peep toe shoes or sandals with tights sticking out the toe end! 😬

NetZeroZealot · 27/11/2025 18:05

I like them

owlpassport · 27/11/2025 18:05

Sheer black tights are on trend, not dated!

Exactly!!!

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 27/11/2025 18:10

Not with those shoes though!

maddiemookins16mum · 27/11/2025 18:14

I love them.

purser25 · 27/11/2025 18:16

I wonder if anyone will notice your shoes wear what you want

Boxfreshrussell · 27/11/2025 18:17

The shoes are old fashioned but sheer black tights are very ‘in’. Wearing tights with heeled sandles is acceptable too. ASOS have lots of choice at cheaper prices.

Petrine · 27/11/2025 18:21

I don’t think the shoes are a great choice but sheer black tights look great.

ivegotthisyeah · 27/11/2025 18:24

Look at the boots version of that shoe, I wear those with tights and dresses

Sidebeforeself · 27/11/2025 18:47

i always think they are a bit Pat Butcher.

Summerhillsquare · 27/11/2025 18:47

I've got those shoes! Never worn them so if you're a size 4 make me an offer 😁

TheApocalypticiansApprentice · 27/11/2025 18:50

They do look a bit tame and old fashioned to me, though no one’s going to notice after their second drink.

If it matters to you have a look at Zara to get an idea of what’s fashionable this season:

https://www.zara.com/uk/en/woman-shoes-l1251.html?v1=2419160&page=4

(They have a sale on, too.)

butidid · 27/11/2025 18:59

I have no idea what's in fashion, I'm afraid. I looked at Esska - they seem to be all chunky heels. Zara is full of tiny pencil thin heels that you won't be able to do much in. Both of them also have lots of flats on their websites. I say if you like the shoes you found and they're comfortable and make you feel good, then 100% go for it!

Coconutter24 · 27/11/2025 19:00

The shoes alone are ok but if you were to put them with black tights they’d age you

SquashPenguin · 27/11/2025 19:21

I’m 39 and they would look
awful with black tights.
