Winter long skirts

Swimmingbackwards · 22/11/2025 16:11

This summer I lived in longish elasticated waist nice skirts with a tshirt. This suits my body as, as an apple, I really struggle to get trousers to fit.

I've had a good mooch online and in some shops and there are very few winter weight long elasticated waist skirts - those there are are satin or occasional wear. Is it that nobody wears skirts, tights and boots anymore or am I looking in the wrong places?

Have you tried Hush? I have a nice heavy denim pleated skirt from them which is about midi length (I’m 5 foot 7) and I wear with jumpers and tights and boots/trainers.

Have you heard of Rosa Blue ? I discovered her on instagram , small business , makes skirts and also petticoats to wear under them . They are quite long but you can request a shorter length no extra cost .

I liked knitted skirts and denim and corduroy skirts in the winter. I've got some nice midi length ones.

I'm going to John lewis tomorrow so will have agood look - glad to see there are some out there. I definitely vere towards plain. My ideal would be little pot belly friendly cord midi or longer skirt which doesn't pinch at the waist - my hips and waist aren't that different!

Have you tried searching for a long kilt?

Swimmingbackwards · 22/11/2025 19:28

I'm Scottish- it's too much!

Are all the summer skirts too 'summery' then?
I still wear alot of my summer skirts and dresses over winter, just add layers. So thermal tights or leggings, a decent slip. Primark fur lined leggings are awesome for this.

TheChosenTwo · 22/11/2025 22:05

My long summery skirts are just too lightweight and look silly with tights and boots, they’re definitely ‘summer’ clothes. I think it’s just the skirts I like, lots of the dresses i wear in the summer can be modified and layered up just fine for winter but my skirts just don’t suit it.
I also need warmth, I have thermal tights and would still struggle with a light layer over the top, feel like I need something more heavy duty so I’m following this thread closely!

Swimmingbackwards · 22/11/2025 22:34

Yes i agree my summer skirts are too light and would odd with tights - I've packed them away. I had hoped uniqlo might have some options as I like that plain look but sadly no.

This looks like a contender but something I'll probably have to order. I struggle so much to get clothes to fit i much prefer to be able try on.

Scratch that - it's 100% polyester. While do they call it corduroy. It should not be polyester!

Cotton traders?

There are some lovely drop pleat styles out there which suit my apple shape. I found one in grey in a nice wintery weight fabric with elasticated waist from Mango. [[https://A-Linien-Rock mit Plisseefalten

Have you looked at Nobody’s Child? I bought one similar to this but in dark denim and I know I’ll wear it to death this winter. It stood up well today when I was in London and in and out of the rain all day today.

Oh I have a good one from Cos, really cosy and easy to wear, bought a couple of years ago now but I saw a cheaper lookalike at H&M here.

minipie · 22/11/2025 23:52

Actually Cos does have this which is half wool unlike the H&M one

EleanorMc67 · 23/11/2025 02:25

I'm a similar shape, & also finding it hard to find elastic-waist cord/denim/wool gathered midi skirts!

This one perhaps?

This is very practical and warm but is a polyester mix.

I somehow missed your requirement for an elasticated waist in your OP. I think that might be where the difficulty lies: an elasticated waist on a winter weight skirt is likely to look quite bulky. Doing the opposite of what you want, in fact. The type that look good would be in fine wool or cashmere, with a wide waistband - and would cost considerably more than you want to pay. The same with cotton cord or velvet.
