Pre Eugenie did the queen or Queen mother ever wear it?

The emeralds looked fab with Camilla's white gown, but I'd have liked to see her in a green gown for a change - holly green would have worked well I think.

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 19/11/2025 10:42

It's a beautiful tiara and I'd certainly wear it just for the absolute pleasure!

I agree. I don’t think there is any more to it than that. Has Camilla styled her hair a bit differently to go with it as well? It certainly seems to work

Remember when the royal ladies had a fur over the top of their gowns on cold winter nights. Wonder if they put something heated up in the royal box for Catherine.

I was thinking the same last night. I know they tend to only go from car to theatre but it’s still very cold to go without a coat!

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 19/11/2025 11:03

@Cassiope yes it'd have been nice! Something in velvet or maybe a green and black brocade. Maybe at Christmas time or the Carol service.

Back in the day they did wrap up

I wonder if they've installed electric heaters now.

MrsLeonFarrell · 19/11/2025 11:25

I read somewhere this morning that Camilla wants to give all the unworn bling an airing. I really hope that's true. What's the point of owning jewellery of you aren't going to wear it.

Maireas · 19/11/2025 11:26

Good news! Haven't we been saying that for several threads?! Give it an airing.

That makes sense. She seems personally to enjoy wearing jewellery, so I'd expect her to want to make the most of the royal collection - and with the best will in the world she can't wear everything herself!

Do you think Cams was sending a* *not so subtle message to a certain family, wearing the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik ?

I’d rather think if there was any message it was a supportive one

gingercat02 · 19/11/2025 12:25

AllTangledUpInTitlesTiarasAndTinsel · 19/11/2025 10:11

I really don't think they would bother with sending that kind of message.

Let's hope not. Grown ups aren't usually that petty!

justasking111 · 19/11/2025 12:28

Well Mrs Grenville had some stupendous stuff much more given to the queen mother than we've seen.

Maireas · 19/11/2025 12:29

I wish I had a friend like Mrs Grenville 😢

I have a 1930s velvet cape trimmed with fur that I used to wear to events in the winter. It's black and very elegant. Fully lined it does keep the wind out. Seeing the queen mother wearing this reminded me of it.

I think I'd wear it.
There are a great. Any petty threads on mumsnet.

My step mil wears all the jewellery that fil inherited. I think hubby should call her out. That type of thing.
It must be amazing to have so much choice. Like a big Argos catalogue of real jewellery!

96 posts to Meghan. How tedious!

That tiara looks better on the Q than it does on Eugenie. I’d have it re modelled if it was mine…

Maireas · 19/11/2025 12:46

I think wearing a mink stole is probably a bit risky, nowadays. I like the cape, I think more capes should be worn. They always add drama.

From the Wikipedia entry on Mrs Greville:

Following Greville's death, Queen Elizabeth, who inherited the bulk of Greville's huge collection of jewellery, described her as "so shrewd, so kind and so amusingly unkind, so sharp, such fun, so naughty; altogether a real person, a character, utterly Mrs Ronald Greville".[17]

By contrast, Sir Cecil Beaton described her as "a galumphing, greedy, snobbish old toad who watered at her chops at the sight of royalty ... and did nothing for anybody except the rich".[18]

James Lees-Milne, in his diaries, commented: "Everyone is agog to hear the terms of Mrs G's will. She was a lady who loved the great because they were great, and apparently had a tongue dipped in gall. I remember old Lady Leslie exclaiming, 'Maggie Greville! I would sooner have an open sewer in my drawing room!'"

I suspect the donation of all those jewels may have clouded the QM's judgement!

Maireas · 19/11/2025 12:56

"tongue dipped in gall"
That's such a great turn of phrase. I'm guessing she wasn't a particularly likeable person..

But might've fitted in well on some Mumsnet threads!
