Checking in 👐
Ooh, hopefully the Carol Service won't disappoint! I generally love what Kate wears for it and did think the burgundy berry colour theme the family wore was lovely.

Cassiope · 17/11/2025 07:03

Brrrr... Photos from anywhere it's warm enough to wear a safari suit will be welcome eye candy! Failing that I'm hoping Anne will get her fur trilby out of the mothballs.

We have finally reached slug-killing temperatures in my corner of Yorkshire and I will be spending the next few months swathed in wool and thermals of various sorts.

Brass monkeys here too.

This tiara is coming up for sale. Been discussed on here before too.

I read a couple of Lady Glenconner's books last year and found them fascinating. What a life she has led.

deeahgwitch · 17/11/2025 09:49

i always think Lady Glenconner’s husband was “punching way above” when he married her.
Yet he treated her so badly. ☹️
She was gorgeous, he wasn’t.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 17/11/2025 13:28

He was an abusive bastard, basically.

ExquisiteDresses · 17/11/2025 13:33

Yes, his behaviour was horrendous and she put up with it because of her position. And so much else to cope with, with the awful things that happened to several of her children. But she has survived and made a new life and career in her 80s/90s.

deeahgwitch · 17/11/2025 15:57

Lady G had some very tough times to deal with during her lifetime. She’s made of strong stuff 💪 💐

Eaumyword · 17/11/2025 16:49

Agree with the Lady G comments. I read her autobiography, which was a cracking read and oh my, her husband was awful. Prone to lying down screaming tantrums on the floor, breathtaking cruelty and other stuff too vile to put on this lovely thread! To top it off, he secretly cut her and their remaining children out of the will and left his money to his assistant 😳
She comes across as an all round good egg, with the patience of a saint to have put up with both her husband AND Princess Margaret!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 17/11/2025 17:10

She even left the worst stuff out of her first book. In her second she reveals that he was physically abusive on top of it all.

Maireas · 17/11/2025 17:16

It's interesting that "Refuge" was her charity of choice, back in the 1970s, funding the first refuges for victims of domestic violence.

I didn't realise that she had originally been engaged to Johnny Spencer....

Hmmm JS was supposed to to be a not so nice husband to Frances, Diana’s mother.
It has not been verified by the family.

Yes, I have heard tell.
Basically these women had to find a "suitable" husband.

Me too, it's fascinating, the debutante stuff of years gone by.
'Marrying well' (ie: rich and titled) seemed somehow more important than marrying for love, mixed in with a big dose of naivete and innocence at first. Thank heavens things have moved on!
As a pp pointed out, Lady G was actually from a 'higher ranking' family than Colin Tennant/Lord G, but daughters didn't inherit the major spoils, thus perpetuating the need to 'marry well', but then putting up with terrible behaviour.

Chesticles · 17/11/2025 18:41

Charlene’s been out and about a bit of late. First 2 outfits bit bland, practical, nothing too much to comment on. The 3rd outfit 😮😬🤔. It does weird things to my eyes. 😵‍💫

Yes, it looks like a 2D drawing, doesn't it? Camel and cream is ok.

The black jacket would look fab with plain trousers, but it's too much with the stripey trousers!

Maireas · 17/11/2025 19:30

I wonder if it's Chanel? They seem to have an arrangement with the Grimaldis.

Eaumyword · 17/11/2025 20:01

It definitely looks Chanel.
Char looks really pretty there.

I put some photos of Sophie on the previous thread before @Maireas kindly rounded me up to the correct thread. I think this link will take you there.

I can't bring myself to picture Maireas as a collie so now I'm seeing her as a very glamorous, very country shepherdess instructing the collies to 'come by' and bring you back to the fold.

bluegreygreen · 17/11/2025 21:18

Country or county 😉?

I like the idea of being a shepherdess! (Although the ones near me wear wear very serviceable waterproofs and boots 🌧️)
