Seasalt? Yay or nay?

Since I now work exclusively from home, I've gradually drifted (plummeted) from smart work dress everyday to living in leggings.

I'm not ancient, but not a bright young thing either.

I've been looking for some dresses that are comfy for daily wear but also look a bit nicer than the leggings sweater combo I've sunk into.

I've come across Seasalt and have seen a few dresses on there that I like BUT I'm worried they're a bit grannyish. I genuinely can't tell what's OK anymore.

Are Seasalt generally for the older woman? I'd shop elsewhere if the stuff was in my price bracket, but Next et al don't have a lot that I've liked recently.

both yay and nay . Some lovely pieces some awful pieces and patterns . I’d say middle class women not an age brand per say although I think the appeal would be 30+

FirstdatesFred · 25/10/2025 13:52

I like some of their shapes and find them flattering but wish the prints weren't so dated and dowdy looking. I don't think you look at any of them and think what beautiful prints/fabric

No, this is my thought. I like some of the colours but I also think, can I imagine myself in that? Will I look like granny on the school pickup?

I do wonder why they don't do more in sharp or bright plain colours.

I like lots of the colours and some of their knitwear is lovely.
Generally their prints are
pretty dated and not very stylish, I think.

EsmeWeatherwaxHatpin · 25/10/2025 13:59

I have a sea salt coat that’s just a block of one bright colour and it’s lovely. I’m really happy with the quality. But I’ve not gone to dresses etc either.

Tiree1965 · 25/10/2025 14:00

If you’re thinking about trying them the quality is great but you can pick things up on Vinted for a fraction of the price.

chipsticksmammy · 25/10/2025 14:05

No, it’s all old lady.

Try Cos, Arket or &Other Stories and go with natural fabrics. I have loads of comfy dresses and outfits from all three for working from home.

squashyhat · 25/10/2025 14:32

I went to Windsor recently with the specific intent of finding some independent clothes shops to renew my winter wardrobe. Windsor does not have the sort of shops I expected to find. One M&S, one TKMaxx and three Seasalt items later I achieved my mission 🙄

suburburban · 25/10/2025 14:36

I wear Seasalt and I’m not Old Lady

i like their tops and basics and the odd dress

Xiaoxiong · 25/10/2025 14:55

Oh no @squashyhatdid you go into Daniels? They have a lot of concessions of different brands. Also further down Peascod St where it turns into St Leonard’s Road there are independent boutiques like Zobia and Nea Boutique.

BestIsWest · 25/10/2025 14:59

Some of the stuff is lovely. I like their knitwear, the T shirts are great, I have a handful of plainer dresses. The linen is good quality. I’m not keen on some of the prints. Had a fab satin dress and shirt from there last winter.

daisychain01 · 25/10/2025 15:00

Such weird attitudes as to what Old Ladies choose to wear. How dehumanising and ageist!

im not an Old Lady, I find Sea Salt clothes to be good quality and the staff friendly, it's a nice shopping experience. Some of their highly floral designs don't suit me, not because they're for Old Ladies, but because either the fit, the cut, the fabric or the hang isn't right for me. Other things are lovely and I wear them all the time,

i don't like all their clothes, but then who likes every last piece of their favourite brand.

RandomMess · 25/10/2025 15:01

It really depends on the shape and fabric, sizes are very generous!

WhitstablePearl · 25/10/2025 15:02

I live in their sailor tops. And they last for years

yappypups · 25/10/2025 15:06

I’m in my 60’s and no longer wear seasalt as I think it’s frumpy ( although admit to my dog walking coat from there). However my 90 year old DM still loves it

RuinsOfaPicnicLunch · 25/10/2025 15:08

Some things are nice in a Poetry Clothings/Boden/M&S kind of way but some are very Bon Marche and F&F looking. I don't think their sizing is as generous as it used to be and I feel like they lost a little bit of their Cornish charm and soul by being sold at M&S.

MrsLeonFarrell · 25/10/2025 15:23

I love Seasalt and am not old or frumpy.

But if you don't like the patterns you won't feel good so why spend the money? I believe we feel and look our best in clothes we love rather than trying to look good in clothes that follow random rules.

Mumofoneandone · 25/10/2025 15:47

I think you have to pick through their designs but absolutely love Seasalt clothes, particularly their jersey dresses. Am in my 40s now but been wearing them for years. My mum also wears some of their clothes too, so they appeal to a wide range of ages. My mum is very much a glam granny, whose style is always admired rather than a frumpy one!!

notacooldad · 25/10/2025 16:03

Will I look like granny on the school pickup?

This is a weird question because, who knows? Surely it would depend on the restiof your looking eg your hairstyle make up, the rest of the outfit your body shape etc.

You could put the same shirt or blouse on 10 different women and some of the will look fab and others not so great. Therefore the sensible thing to do is forget the 'label' and look at the garment and decide if you like it and also does it suit you.

You've already had contrasting answers on whether it is frumpy or not so only you can decide.

I have a few seasalt items, admittedly one is a dog walking coat and no one is going to use me for fashion inspiration, but also some great t shirts.

NotMeNoNo · 25/10/2025 16:07

It's not so much age as lifestyle. On average it suits people who like comfortable, colourful, good quality clothes, probably more country or suburbs than urban, not particularly trend led but they do have some items that are influenced by current shapes. Maybe for people who like the Toast or Gudrun Sjoden look but want more wearable everyday clothes.

Having said that I was talking to a relative last weekend and she described the town she lives in as having the "holy trinity" of Seasalt, Fat face and White Stuff, so perhaps that's where they fit in!

Hdpr · 25/10/2025 16:11

The quality is excellent, their striped t shirts and tops last years.
I agree regarding the patterns but the plainer stuff is great

NetZeroZealot · 25/10/2025 16:13

Yay to the tops.
Nay to the patterned frocks.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 25/10/2025 16:19

I think the quality of Seasalt is excellent, which is sadly getting rarer and rarer these days. Some of their stuff can look a bit fuddy duddy but you can update it by wearing it with more trendy boots, bag, jewellery etc.

PurpleGoldfish · 25/10/2025 16:23

I bought a linen shirt dress from there this summer and it was lovely. I am under 40 although definitely not stylish and probably a bit plumper than I should be!

I sort of think, if you like something and it looks nice on you, who gives a shit if others consider it cool or youthful or whatever? (I do recognise that we're on the style and beauty board though, so fair enough if you do care).

faffadoodledo · 25/10/2025 16:31

Sea Salt is essential for Bretons.
interestingly it’s doing a collab with (gorgeous) Patrick Grant on their menswear range. So maybe trying to overhaul.
