If you’re a Scandi architect type of dresser, what would you wear to an October wedding?

I’ve lost quite a bit of weight recently and look alright in clothes again now but have lost my way, style-wise as I’m used to hiding away. Got a friend’s wedding in October and would like to look half decent.

I’m size 10/12, 5’8” tall and wide-shouldered so can’t wear dainty things (really not a dainty type of person) or anything too fitted on top. Cos type clothes suit me but so many of them are black which isn’t great for a wedding.

Would consider hiring something good and would probably need to then buy shoes or boots. Happy to spend some money, even happier if I don’t have to!

Nver heard of Toast, so I just looked at their site. What awful, awful clothes! 🫨 I don't think I've ever seen such frumpy dresses, and the rest look dreadful, too! 🤣

They are good quality fabric and sewing, cut in shapes for women's bodies to live and move in comfortably rather than titillate the male gaze... but you are certainly not alone in this opinion.

Love this dress so much! Just ordered it for a winter wedding

EscapadeVelocity · 14/09/2025 18:52

awful, awful clothes is what I think when I see all the vile, cheap rubbish some posters insist on promoting here. Pouting models sticking out their behinds to show off garish bits of nylon …

Toast used to be really wonderful. It took a dip in quality, but has improved lately. The worst you can say is that there’s still a bit too much ‘Made in China’ - but as the poster above says, they do try to make clothes for real adult women to live their real lives in - without having to buy new clothes every week.

I mean, there's regular loose clothing that in no way titillates the male gaze, and then there's wearing tents that could fit five people! 🤣

Bright red? For a wedding? Everyone will think you've slept with the groom! 🤣🤣🤣

Well, I think there's a lot of ground between cheap tarty clothes and wearing a five-person tent! Anyway, they certainly look comfy, and since I have no desire to be in a relationship, I might actually get some of this camping gear to wear, and never have to deal with any advances! 🤣

Red is great for a winter wedding. Or a summer one. It’s not the 1950s.

It is in my head! 🤣 Also upstaging the bride is a thing.

The red Massimo dutti one is nice, as is the fluid bronze one someone posted.

I wore a colourful COS dress from Vinted to my friend's wedding. Would you consider that?

Or have you looked at Arrange on ASOS?

they have some quite interesting bits.

Do you just come on threads to be outraged? First at Toast then at red dresses. It's bizarre 😂

Edited

I’m not going to upstage the bride no matter what I wear. However, will stay away from white, cream and anything too pale because of convention but also because those colours really don’t suit me! I wouldn’t mind wearing something red if it felt good, really don’t think there’s the same feeling against wearing red to a wedding as turning up in a white ballgown?

Going to be a pedant but isn’t Antwerp in Belgium? So would classify as Belgium Architect vibes? 😬

Going to be more of a pedant and say that surely it would be Belgian Architect...!

GimmieABreakOr3 · 15/09/2025 10:57

I think red is fine for an autumn or winter wedding if it’s the right shade… I.e. plum, maroon, burgundy. They look fabulous this time of year. My friend is getting married in December and having burgundy bridesmaids.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 15/09/2025 11:00

also @PricklesLikely have you tried rental websites such as byrotation and Hurr?

Victoria Beckham styles seem to fit the brief?

If you are meaning that dark red dress (looked burgundy to me) then i think you are right.

I think a scarlet red short or strappy number might start veering towards the eyebrow-raising!

That House of Dagmar dress is gorgeous and looks to fit your brief and be perfect for a wedding

Moomin GIF by stalebagel

Is anyone else familiar with the Fillyjonk from the Moomins?

I think this is the website she buys from ...

Mumwithbaggage · 16/09/2025 20:05

Some of those patterned dresses are lovely but being tall, I'd worry I'd end up looking like Grayson Perry.

Loving the stuff on the Massimo Dutti website.

Well yeah, they’re both from Finland, both from same era so that’s really not a stretch...
