If you’re a Scandi architect type of dresser, what would you wear to an October wedding?

I’ve lost quite a bit of weight recently and look alright in clothes again now but have lost my way, style-wise as I’m used to hiding away. Got a friend’s wedding in October and would like to look half decent.

I’m size 10/12, 5’8” tall and wide-shouldered so can’t wear dainty things (really not a dainty type of person) or anything too fitted on top. Cos type clothes suit me but so many of them are black which isn’t great for a wedding.

Would consider hiring something good and would probably need to then buy shoes or boots. Happy to spend some money, even happier if I don’t have to!

Fantastic!

Although I’ve just seen it’s a linen/viscose mix which might not look quite right in October 😬

Ontre on Shein

Vast selection at reasonable prices. The dresses look amazing on tall women. I would like to try but am a short thing.

Appreciate some people will have issues with the ethics of Shein.

Another Dutti dress - I like this one because it's more 'dressed up' but you would deffo need a jacket! £129.

Congratulations on now being The Perfect Shape For Clothes, OP! I like the flowing, satiny numbers for you because you deserve to enjoy the fact that you can now wear them as the designer intended, and they'll feel really nice on.

I'm the same shape as you - the larger version at present - so I'd like to impart my little bit of hard-won fashion wisdom. People will keep telling you to 'minimise' your shoulders and consider bouffy-hipped styles in an effort to make yourself look more like an hourglass.

This is utter bollocks. The current plethora of detailed shoulders, big sleeves and even frilled or padded shoulders is a gift to those of us with clothes-hanger scapulas, we make them look like they were meant to. Lean into your shape, and enjoy yourself!

Depends on your budget really and I'm not 100% sure what you are after, an architect and associate scandi architects with minimalism natural colour and materials is that what you are looking for?

This is perfect, I love it. It’s not too sombre for a wedding, is it?

Possibly tbh. I was all excited about its Scandi architect vibe but not thinking enough about the wedding side.

I would wear it to a winter registry office ceremony but I agree it wouldn’t be right for a fancier venue.

spoonbillstretford · 12/09/2025 05:31

tellyon · 11/09/2025 19:34

I would wear a large shapeless toast type dress in either colour block or simple print and then dress it up with some excellent jewellery

Why? She's slim and 5'8", why wear something shapeless?

Youknowwhatright · 12/09/2025 05:33

Can someone please point me to the original scandi architect thread, I remember it but now can’t seem to find it and it had some good suggestions of brands that I’d like to revisit!

Youknowwhatright · 12/09/2025 05:34

Also if anyone can recommend any cheaper brands that fit this vibe to look out for in charity shops I’d be grateful. I sometimes find Cos bits in my local chazza. I’ve given up with Vinted, sizing is so unpredictable that most things I buy don’t fit.

Tootingbec · 11/09/2025 20:37

Going to be a pedant but isn’t Antwerp in Belgium? So would classify as Belgium Architect vibes? 😬

Or Belgian architect even (to be a pedant 😉)

spoonbillstretford · 12/09/2025 06:13

I don't know if this is the right style but I love it.

I need to know more about the Scandi architect look.

Divebar2021 · 12/09/2025 06:35

Im a bit confused by the comment that you wouldn’t wear anything fitted on top. I’m a 10/12 with broad shoulders and a slim waist and absolutely love fitted tops. ( and I have short hair too so lean into angular). If you know your style then I don’t think you should deviate from it because it’s a wedding. The dark red dresses above I saw I’d clash with scarlet lips / bag and a weird shoe. Or maybe a fuschia. Let me think where I’d look for a dress ( I might actually do a mannish suit for myself )

An olde Mumsnet trope

tellyon · 12/09/2025 06:52

@spoonbillstretford because she wants to follow the scandi architect look! And that means sort of large shapeless / trapezoid type dresses. If she said she wanted to look like a contender for the apprentice I would have suggested something fitted. If you look at Toast, Stella Nova, Ganni etc you will see. And for what it’s worth I don’t think you have to wear shapeless dresses if you’re not slim, anyone can wear what they want. But I was following OP’s ask.

Yes, you are right, I don't really get that style at all and I don't think it suits anyone, but each to their own. I thought
Gudrun Sjödén was a spoof when I first saw their clothes. I'll retreat from the thread and leave it to others!

mamagogo1 · 12/09/2025 07:07

You are slim and tall, please don’t opt for these shapeless sacks, the Hobbs dress is fabulous, show off your figure

I’d go for a lovely simple jumpsuit to be honest 🤍

That’s my wedding default, but all of mine are old.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 11/09/2025 20:45

Try Stella Nova, Skall Studio, The Garment, Stine Goya, Rotate Biger Christensen, By Malene Birger, House of Dagmar…

This is a personal favourite:
